EURO 2024 qualifyers
Italy v England tomorrow morning. Unfortunately Sterling is out injured so the team is going to lack control and tempo. Just pray he plays Walker, Maguire, Dier, Henderson and Phillips to add balance and a sense of adventure.

Re: EURO 2024 qualifyers
Got most of your wishes, they look better without Sterling running up blind alleys and misplacing passes that's for sure.
Bullshit penalty though, di Lorenzo is wrestling with Kane and jumping at the same time, where the fuck is his arm meant to go?
Perhaps Italy will miss this tournament as well

So the knives sharpened for Southgate pre-game will now be put back in the top drawer for now. First England manager to win in Italy for 61 years! This manager ain't got a clue!Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 8:15 amGot most of your wishes, they look better without Sterling running up blind alleys and misplacing passes that's for sure.

Grealish got off the hook with his shocker of a miss- now imagine if that was Sterling, we wouldn't hear the end of it.

England are doing better in spite of Southgate, not because of him. Best crop of players in 30 years and he still makes a pig's ear of it.thebeautifulgame wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 10:15 amSo the knives sharpened for Southgate pre-game will now be put back in the top drawer for now. Re: EURO 2024 qualifyers
Wasn’t his best game but clearly we are still a better team when Grealish plays. The 2nd half was as diabolical as it gets even by Southgate standards, he is absolutelyfucking clueless. We finished the game with Maguire & Phillips still on the field along with 3 right backs. Somehow we managed to play some half decent football for about 25 minutes in 1st half then Southgate must have had enough “Lads just give it to Maguire or Phillips to give to Pickford”. “Jordan go long to them”.Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 12:35 pmEngland are doing better in spite of Southgate, not because of him. Re: EURO 2024 qualifyers
Still can't believe Southgate hasn't picked Balogun. U21 International, current leading goal scorer of the French league, yet still doesn't get a look in cause he just plays Kane every International.. the kid will end up being the starboy for team USA in a home World Cup in 2026, make a bucket load of cash & stick his finger up at Gareth as he walks by!
Kane has to retire one day, so what is your plan B ..??

Re: EURO 2024 qualifyers
Up the same blind alley doing the same dull things that keep on failing in the end. This was a perfect game for him to try to take us up another level. Swap Maguire for a quicker centre back, fuck off Henderson and finally play Grealish, Maddison & Saka together but you just know when Sterling & Mount are fit it will be Grealish, Maddison, Foden & Gallaher etc. on the bench until a like for like sub of one of them in the 85 minute if they're lucky. Frustrating to watch

?
Scotland
Spain played well enough but Scotland managed to hit them with an early goal in each half. As we all know Scotland are no world beaters but they deserve credit when it is due and it certainly is after a solid performance.
Still believe Spain will top the group but hoping Scotland can give them a run for their money.

Under the modern interpretations - penalties don't get any clearer.Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 8:15 amGot most of your wishes, they look better without Sterling running up blind alleys and misplacing passes that's for sure.

Re: EURO 2024 qualifyers
I have been pretty quiet regarding the progress of Scotland but have to admit I have been impressed by their performances and game management- we even managed to turn on the 'sprinklers' (heavy rain) for the visit of Georgia at Hampden, which certainly seemed to upset them.
Four games played and sitting on top with maximum points, nine goals scored and only one conceded (a penalty v Norway).
How in the hell we managed to beat them I will never know but this team under Steve Clarke has certainly got a bit of resilience about them.
I expect a big push from Spain in the group but looking like Norway are struggling to make an impact. If Scotland hold their nerve they can top the group but nothing can be taken for granted at this stage. All down to how they can handle the three away games coming up but all the other teams will take points off each other (most likely Cyprus apart).

Re: EURO 2024 qualifyers
Not at all, I merely commented on what I saw in the Norway v Scotland game, Norway dominated for large periods of the game and should have won. Scotland looked to have got out of jail with the draw late on until they snatched an unlikely winner at the death, not that I'm complaining.

Re: EURO 2024 qualifyers
You make it sound like Norway are a powerhouse.
Is a fact- they have played Brazil four times, two wins (2-1 and 4-2) to Norway and the other two games finished 1-1. Three of these games were International Friendlies but impressive all the same.
Thanks for pointing this out.

Re: EURO 2024 qualifyers
Thanks for reminding me that Scotland finished bottom of the Group A table in 1998, however our 'consolation' point came against Norway in a 1-1 draw.
