The AGM of the International F.A. Board will be considering some of the following changes & tidy-ups of the Laws of the Game @ this Saturday’s AGM:

* “one shot” penalties during a game similar to penalty shootouts where a player cannot score from a rebound if the “one shot” is saved.

* the ball not having to leave the penalty area at goal kicks.

* subs having to leave the field at the nearest boundary line.

* clarification of the handball rule and taking out the word “deliberately”.

* a dropped ball being given if the ball hits the referee and a goal is scored, team possession changes or an attacking move is created.

* No subs allowed during time added for injuries or other delays like yellow or red cards.

It will be interesting to see if any of the above proposals are approved with the requisite 6 out of 8 Board votes (IFAB made up of 1 member from each of the 4 British home Nations & 4 members from FIFA representing the other 200+ member nations).

TBF I’m slightly interested and there’s a couple that make sense. The penalty idea and the drop ball one are rubbish and the no subs in injury time is daft, the ref just adds more time on, but the idea of subbed players leaving by the shortest route is sensible as is the removal of the need for a goal kick to leave the area. The current handball law is fine, but needs better application so we get more consistency, they might just make it more confusing if they change it.

The player leaving by the shortest route has a downside. They won’t be ‘covered’ up and can be confusing to know if he is in or off the pitch.

Since the gk hasn’t been able to pick the ball up from a back pass, I don’t see why it has to leave the area from a goal kick.

The 'one shot' penalty rule may be stupid but it will get rid of the need for officials to try and control the currently out of hand encroachment that happens...and prevent the Cryuff-Messi style layoff penalty farce...

Not being a 'law maker' I would assume a goal kick type scenario.
Personally I would prefer no penalty spot kicks...just award a direct free kick from where the foul was made...might stop the players diving a bit more...

The proven ageist NNNN proven wrong AGAIN. It seems forumites ARE interested in the annual review of the Laws of the Game.

Bomber will be pleased 4 of the proposals he liked were approved yesterday.

In addition the annoying jostling that goes on when attacking players disrupt the defensive wall will be eliminated as attackers will have to be 1 metre back from that wall.

I personally like the one shot penalty rule which will put an end to the encroachment rule which has been virtually ignored by officials in recent years.
