ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA
The Socceroos look set to play England in a football friendly in May in their first clash since the famous 3-1 win at Upton Park in 2003.

Re: ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA
How often does England play anywhere but Wembley? I didn't think they'd play anywhere else but there since it's been re-built. Or has something changed and they want to play friendlies of this nature elsewhere?adelaidebloke wrote:Newcastle or Sunderland, so the north of England
Would be great for the Australian game to get these sort of games against big name opposition. Give me a game like this over that HAL All-stars game any day.

Re: ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA
I don't understand why England would play this game at all.
If it was for the money then why hold it in Newcastle, a lot more aussies in London to attend?
Why pit ourselves against a side that is so lowly ranked?
Why pit ourselves against a side that will not play the style of football we will be facing in the Euro's?
It just doesn't make sense. It's not a challenge, it's not for money and it's not to help with this years competition.

Re: ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA
I agree. Beating them in London last time whilst a confidence booster, was more to highlight how crap England were at the time, rather than prepare for the WC of '06
Hopefully if the poms are down at half time, Roy wont change the entire team in order to have an excuse to why they got done (this time).
We should send our U/21's.

Don't England have wales in their group, similarities there. English speaking (mostly), similar sporting cultures and similar chips on their shoulders re England and the importance of the win.

I guess when Wales beat England at rugby as they've done quite a bit lately, it's "irrelevant" as much.God is an Englishman wrote:That's a very good point actuallyN5 1BH wrote:Don't England have wales in their group, similarities there. Re: ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA
the excuses have been banked
there's no need though as I cant see this lot of socceroos getting close to even a disinterested England

which would make it win/win for Australia

The term "similar sporting cultures" was used, so relevant enough

What part of this post shows you are at the top? In fact, feel free to let me know when either your rugby team and football team were ever/last ranked no 1 in the world.

Re: ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA
So your argument about wanting to beat everyone at the top was only really relevant to Oz & Wales v England in Rugby for a portion of 2003?

So like I said, we (and Welsh) wanted to knock you off "because you were at the top" for a portion of 2003 at one of the two sports.
