Chiellini is also one of the biggest simulators I have seen at this level....also had his Uruguayan opponent almost in a full-Nelson when Uruguay scored. Wouldn't be surprised if he scratched his own collar bone(shoulder) to make the Suarez incident look worse....I'm not really sure if Suarez could have bitten him at the angle of contact, but he did contact Chiellini.....will wait for further analysis before I condemn...initially Chiellini clutches his face then focuses on his shoulder.....
Some of the YouTube clips up already now suggest Suarez may have used his teeth on contact... :?

Re: Suarez
Italian defenders do have a reputation for cynical play and then feigning injury when there is any sort of retaliation eg Matterazzi.
It doesn't look good for Suarez given his track record, however it could be incidental due to Chiellini trying to bump Suarez with his shoulder and connecting with Suarez's face.

Re: Suarez
You call into question Chiellini's integrity in relation to the indiscretion, whilst I will agree that Chiellini is no saint, that is what has made him a pretty good defender, and it's usually the case that if he is not on your team, you dislike him. But the truth of the matter is that some of the best defenders past and present have built the reputations on bending the rules to mark out a skilful attacking player.
To attempt to justify Suarez's behavior, if it is comfirmed as being a bite, with Chiellini's prior behaviour is not the way to go. We are talking about a bit of rough and tumble versus biting a player, something he has done in the past. All be it in a seemigly unprovoked manner, why beacuse maybe Suarez was getting frustrated and Chiellini payed him some close attention well within the rules. I agree Chiellini made a meal of it, but still doesn't make the offence if true any less despicable, ecspecially in a game when a team mate receieved a pretty harsh red card.

Chiellini 'bending the rules'....bit of an understatement there....I'm amazed at what he gets away with.

Re: Suarez
Can you recall him doing anything as reprehensible as biting someone. If not then why bring it up. Take him out of it and the indiscretion is still unchanged, could have been the cleanest most law-abiding player that he bit, still doesn't make a scrap of difference.swannsong wrote:Not defending Suarez at all.....even amended my post (last part) after viewing some of the YouTubes of the incident out there.Trezegoal #17 wrote:You call into question Chiellini's integrity in relation to the indiscretion, whilst I will agree that Chiellini is no saint, that is what has made him a pretty good defender, and it's usually the case that if he is not on your team, you dislike him. So Chiellini has never pulled an opposition player's hair, elbowed them in the face, taken their legs out with no intention of playing the ball, climbed all over them with his hands and arms, simulated an injury ??? ....depends what you define as reprehensible....I do not condone what Chiellini does repeatedly any more than what Suarez appears to have done in this instance.
The big fault is with the officials (and FIFA itself) allowing these players to get away with more and more of these kinds of behaviours year after year....seems that they have become intimidated by the 'star' players and the huge amounts of money involved in the game.

Re: Suarez
You will find FIFA bans across all competitions usually involve something abhorrent like match-fixing, violent conduct towards a referee/crowd etc. As ridiculous as Suarez's actions are, it doesn't doesn't fall into the that category and I would be surprised if it is across all competitions. However, I don't see him playing any internationals for a long time to come.haywood djablowme wrote:FIFA overarching body... Re: Suarez
Not disputing that he is part of this incident, just the perceived inference that Chiellini's past indiscretions, demeanour or the way he played this game in particular somehow contributed to Suarez lashing out at him. If no provocation was offered, then the incident should be viewed in isolation, purely on the action alone, the victim is irrelevant.swannsong wrote:Like it or not Chiellini is part of this incident...Trezegoal #17 wrote: Can you recall him doing anything as reprehensible as biting someone. As I said a meal was made of it, but it was done to attract the officials attention to the incident in the hope of Suarez being sent off in order to even out the game. As I said earlier, the Marchisio red card was a little harsh in my opinion and Chiellini did what most players would do to even things out, this may be wrong but as you said this is the way the game has gone due to the officiating and rule enforcement, I'll agree with you on that one. However regardless of his reaction, it is a red card offence.
As far as reprehensible behaviour, I'll agree the hair pull by Chiellini on Cavani was line ball, but if you include the other behaviours, which are displayed by other defenders and are a result of officiating or lack there of, with an act that is akin to an animal, then unfortunately that's where we'll disagree.

Re: Suarez
That's a very convincing angle from that animated gif .... think he might be spending some time on the the sidelines...
The only caps he might get in the future might be for his teeth.
Still think there are other, 'just as serious' habits and actions creeping more and more into the game that need to be looked at.
Some of the tackles that can potentially lead to very serious injuries, the increasing use of the hands and arms on and around opponents
and of course simulation.

Re: Suarez
Agree there are some disturbing habits that have crept into the game, that I would like to see eradicated. The officiating has been frustratingly inconsistent this tournament, I'm trying to recall a front on studs up tackle mid way up the shin in another game that recieved only a yellow, then Marchisio recieves a straight red for his "tackle" this morning, I just can't remember the game.
