Oh dear, Roy!

At least Rooney scored I suppose!

Silly thing is England can still get through if they smack Costa Rica and Italy are kind to them for their next two games.

Pre- tournament concerns about England's defence came true.

How does Welbeck get a start?

Well that was predicable. You support, sorry follow an English football team, read English papers, watch English football but enjoy their misfortune. Sad, sad, sad.

Why hasn't GIAE come in here talking about how England were the better team and deserved 3 penalties yet?

The non-English Liverpool supporters are fine with it.

How did Napoli supporters welcome Maradona after he did similar to Italy (can't recall if directly or indirectly) in Italia '90?

England-above average players, below average coach.
Way below average, funny thing is he’ll probably end up being knighted!

This is one can of worms you don't wont to open

It was pretty much was the beginning of the end for Maradona in Italy.

Did you get let out for recess? Liverpoo.....

What's Wilshere then?

If anyone Gerrards past his best for Liverpool never mind England and the defence was always going to be suspect so Terry alongside Cahill would've been merited on club form.

In the end not good enough but no need to get petty and look and blame players from certain opposition clubs.

As a team not good enough yet again, end of.

Ive said the same thing before, he's clueless.

As far as the game went......Our defence was poor and we are so slow at moving the ball (again)

Just not good enough to get the result.

He didn't play well but the support was for Argentina.

Before any other Italy supporters pipe up, Maradona said in an interview, "364 days of the year the rest of Italy don't consider you (Neapolitans) Italian, but now they want your support" that's where it all came from

Very true, however I for one was always hiOping for an Italy win.

If we want to blame anyone for that blame Zenga

Absolutely correct - England's 5 Liverpool starting players were insipid and weak - should have never thought otherwise - they bottled the big stage domestically why did anyone ever think they were going to otherwise internationally?

I've always seen the Italia '90 situation as ultimately the support was for Italy, but the Neapolitans wouldn't have been so down-heartened by something like a Maradona double in a narrow loss, or even if Maradona did net the winner. There was a banner in the stadium which read 'Diego, we love you but at the end of the day we are Italian.' Of course, it always hard to gauge individual feelings out of 60,000. What is certain is that the support was not as fervent as in Rome and it set the scene for Italy's downfall. Not the whole reason, but it's certainly there. Maradona was smart.

As for England, for a country so outraged and opposed to diving, their players don't mind going down for a tumble. Shocking really, especially when inspirational captain Stevie Me is Mr. Anti-diving himself, but didn't chastise his players.

Agreed!

Sturridge was disgusting - he's obviously been learning from his club strike partner

Steve G we all know is 2nd choice to JT England's real captain.

Now we'll get the normal one eyed barrage from Liverpool fans who can't see the wood for the trees. Like I said before their 5 playing in white shirts this morning were insipid and weak.

Pretty ordinary defence, sadly the back ups were only rarely used Man U pair in Jones and Smalling . However not too many quality English centre backs in the EPL who start on regular basis.

As for LW another area of concern.

For the Euro qualifiers :

01 Hart (keep)
02 Johnson (out)
03 Baines (?)
14 Henderson (?)
05 Cahill (keep)
06 Jagielka (out)
19 Sterling (keep)
04 Gerrard (retire)
09 Sturridge (keep)
10 Rooney (keep)
11 Welbeck (out)
07 Wilshere (keep )
08 Lampard (retire)
12 Smalling (out until he can hold down a regular first team spot)
13 Foster (keep)
15 Oxlade-Chamberlain (keep)
16 Jones (as per Smalling)
17 Milner (out)
18 Lambert (keep but only short term)
20 Lallana (keep)
21 Barkley (keep)
22 Forster (Keep)
23 Shaw (keep)

Although England has the highest ratio of foreigners to English, its not that much better in Spain, or Italy. I don't know Germany's. France wouldn't be great either.

So if that is the case and Italy and Spain have won the past two world cups, what is the reason behind their failure. Welbeck in the 1st XI is a good example, another is having a numpty like Phil Jones in your squad.

I think its at the back they have real issues. Cahill is reasonable - Jagielka - no, Jones is rubbish and Smalling barely gets a game at Man Utd.

Having so many players in your squad that aren't regulars is an issue and I suspect it's not because the foreigners are better, more so that the players aren't up to task. Even Lampard, for the champion he has been at Chelsea, why on earth was he taken when he isn't going to play???

For all of Wilshere's plaudits, I am yet to see him string 10 games in a row for Arsenal together. And do not get me started on Rickie Henderson, honestly........

Anyway, after all is said and done, they can still go through.
