Re: Fanzone Victoria square
If 10,000 turned up like in 2006 at Adel.Oval there could be chaos in Vic Squ. This game against Chile is at 7.30 am on Saturday morning, the 14th June. The busy adjoining central market would be in full swing by that time.
At Adelaide Crowval the state-of-the-art 180 sq m HD LED screen near the northern hill is two & a half times the size of the old AAMI screens, and a lot better than Hindmarsh's or that joke screen with dots all over it that they had at Rundle mall in 2010.
10,000 turned up at short notice to Adel.Oval in 2006 at 1 am in the morning. A 7.30 am game on a Saturday morning could top that, especially if they show the 5.30 am Spain v. Netherlands (a rematch of the 2010 Final) as not a bad curtainraiser. A good place to watch, with a breakfast roll & coffee in hand.
IMO don't split the crowd & the atmosphere 'tween the Square and the Crowval.

Won't you be at the Emu?
I once saw a transvestite in a mini skirt. I thought that shows a lot of balls.

How many would turn up if 1 am was in the afternoon?

Well you stated something happened at 1am in the morning. I'm wondering at what other part of the day can 1am occur? Can 1am be in the afternoon, or the evening, or 1am at brunch time?Con M wrote:What does that mean?Bacon888 wrote:How many would turn up if 1 am was in the afternoon?

Careful, he will write to admin and asked for your post to be removed as it is a mild put down of his ability to communicate/tell time.El Paso del Norte wrote:Bacon888 wrote:technically he should have said 1am o'clock in the morningCon M wrote:

The worst thing about being bitten by a venomous spider is that you're probably Australian.

If you like bus, tram & traffic noise at 7.30 am in the morning surrounding the Square, drowning out any commentary and atmosphere, if you like watching on an inferior screen compared to the giant 180 square-metre HD thing @ the Crowval.adelaidebloke wrote:should show all the games, not just socceroos games...I say vic square

If you must know (& need me to explain the obvious to you when it was clear to everyone else), it was a put down of the English mentality of skilful world champions being unable to compete in the UK under adverse weather conditions.Con M wrote:You know that was about your put-down of the great man after his death, on an RIP thread.Black_Panther wrote: Careful, he will write to admin and asked for your post to be removed as it is a mild put down

Re: Fanzone Victoria square
The new Vic Square looks absolutely mint, and is right in the heart of the city, next to the markets, etc. If there are thousands of people there a few buses aren't gonna drown out the atmosphere mate (you reckon Fed Square in Malbourne suffers for being next to busy roads, trams, train station etc?) Having a fan zone in Vic Square puts the WC right in the public eye, why would you want to hide it away at the Oval?Con M wrote:If you like bus, tram & traffic noise at 7.30 am in the morning surrounding the Square, drowning out any commentary and atmosphere, if you like watching on an inferior screen compared to the giant 180 square-metre HD thing @ the Crowval.

Re: Fanzone Victoria square
But adelaidebloke, if 10,000 turned up they simply wouldn't fit in the dug-out northern part of the Square (diamond?). I had a look at this $28-million redevelopment and from the Grote/Wakefield centre-road up to that northern-most end the grassed area narrows.
They had a screen on the back of a truck yesterday (20/1) at that end near the GPO, but it was only about 30 square metres and of poor quality. Compare that to the super HD 180 square-metre screen near the northern mound at the Crowval and the capacity of that Oval for what could be a far bigger crowd that went there in 2006.
In your first post you seem to want to justify locating it there because of cost of the Vic Square refurb work, but on that justification so could locating at the infinitely more costly Crowval.
Maybe a compromise Old Gregg & you would like would be to hold the first fanzone @ the Oval, then if we lose to Chile in the first game (7.30 am Sat 14/6 Adelaide time) and everyone falls off the bandwagon, then show the games against Spain and the Netherlands at 1.30 am on 19/6 and 24/6 at your Vic Square.

I guess we need to look at how many the Royal Croquet Club holds. I imagine it would be a decent number. Then if you think about how many more people you would fit without all the tents etc that are there. Its just so annoying that if it was to be a licenced venue it would require fencing and security because Australian's are incapable of having a few beers and not turning into Vikings.
