Very good games played in good spirits, again nice to watch two teams that want to play football
rather than wind each up like a lot of teams in this league

Both reserves and A's were strange but entertaining games.
Wrap up from a bias (Villa boy) but as honest as can be point of view.
Reserves: Villa were the better side (IMO) in all areas of the park, and should have punished Vipers but missed opportunities cost us in the end. No disrespect to Vipers, solid reserves side, but a little too reliant on one or two players (big boy centre mid), and besides a nice shot off the post, didn't really trouble us too often during general play. Two silly penalties we conceded kept the V bangers in the game, and a late, well taken 3rd gave them the point in the end. Third goal due to an unkind bounce over our CB (a bit cruel for Johnny as he was solid all day), and credit to Vipers striker who was on his toes, turned, and finished the one on one with our keeper. Personally, for a reserves match, it was a good quality, entertaining game to be involved in, and some of the goals were of a classy standard. Ref wasn't great, but for a club ref, he did ok and for the most part, the game was clean and played in good spirits. Wish Vipers the best and thanks for an entertaining game.
A's: Well. A bit of a strange one. Can't comment too much on the first half as we went 1-0 up as I was walking to hit the showers. When I submerged from my long and painful soaking it was 2-1 Vipers! As I settled into my 10 (could have been 14 beers/Scotchs, but who was counting?) I witnessed a second half that seemed to be controlled, for the most part, by Villa. I'm sure the Viper's boys will disagree, but it seemed like Villa had the majority of possession, but every time Vipers broke on the counter, they scored. It was quite surreal to watch to be honest. Besides the fact it was an entertaining game, with some nice goals, credit has to go to Vipers and their striker (Matteo, didn't even realise it was him til I saw this post, good bloke and good on him), cause it seemed like they had 5 chances, and finished 5 chances. Although I think we controlled the possession in the second half and created more chances, Vipers were switched on enough to break on the counter, and it seemed like every ball they played through our defence resulted in a goal. Efficient and effective is the best way to describe Vipers performance. Unlucky, sometimes lazy, and often unorganised at the back, is the best way to describe our performance. Credit to Vipers for an entertaining win at the least.
On a side note, after the reserves and A's game, the Viper's hospitality was second to none (not bad for a bunch of Greeks, just jokes

Thanks boys for 2 entertaining games and the great hospitality given your limited, but well organised resources. As I said to your President, you can expect the same hospitality in return when you visit us, and I actually look forward to sharing a beer with you lot and hopefully we can return the favour and beat you on our turf.
Good luck for the remainder of the season, and thanks again for a good outing, minus the loss.

Villa went 1:0 up in the first 5-10 due to poor marking whilst defending a corner. Given it was the 3rd time that same corner was being taken, with all 3 going to the same spot, we should have done better in defence. Vince showed a bit of quality by crashing through and scoring. From there, and until the end of the first half our keeper basically stood there and enjoyed the game whilst we enjoyed most of the possession, resulting in 3 goals to give us a 3:1 half time lead.
Our poor start once again cost us in the second half... thinking we had it in the bag, Villa came out with all guns blazing and quickly scored after a pretty good individual effort by Ross(?) who beat 3 players to get a shot on goal outside the 18 yard box which curved around the diving keeper and hit the side netting. From that point onward, Villa kept pushing more and more players forward and when they switched to a 3-4-3 formation, we got a 4th goal on the counter to restore the 2 goal lead. Our defence absorbed most of the pressure but conceded a free kick just outside the box. A poor wall set-up allowed Ross to once again score, this time from a well taken free kick, again curving one past the keeper into the exact same spot as his first goal. Score 4:3 at this point and Villa sniffing points... I can see how it may have looked like Villa were dominating, as most of the play was in our half due to the sheer numbers Villa were pushing forward - most Villa attacks now had their centre backs running through the middle with 5+ players in front of them anticipating the through ball. With so many Villa players committed forward, every turnover was a counter attack for us. With about 15 to go, Villa lost another player to injury and were down to 10 men. Soon after we got our 5th goal and that was it... neither team really had any chances after that.
Good game and both sides with things to improve on so round 2 promises to be even better!

They then offered us free beer and food after the A's game and my team mates and I enjoyed having a chat with the Viper lads, who I discovered, are not all Greek

Great display of counter attack footy. On a sour note looks like Vipers will be without Matteo for a few weeks as he has picked up an injury.

I saw you guys very reliant on your number 7 and a lesser extent the number 6, they relished in your long ball game, we didn't adjust as well as we should have. We tried to play but couldn't complete our passing which led to a lot of turn over ball.
In the end your guys were more hungry for the ball in the middle of the park but both sides could have done better in front of goals.
Thanks for supporting our bar like you did and as usual the Vipers will return the favor...We enjoy putting on a feed after the match for visiting clubs as it is a good chance to catch up and forge good relationships between clubs so the game is played in the spirit it is meant to be.
See you at your place.

I'll take that as a rare compliment as I played in the middle of the park
Fair summary too. I did notice that you guys weren't quite clicking with your passing, but I think it was our constant pressure all round that made you struggle a little when in possession. A bit sore at myself for conceding the first penalty, and it was unfortunate that it was two of us older (and supposedly more experienced) players on our team that conceded both penalties. We still have a lot to work on, but after an average preseason, it's a step in the right direction (how we'd like to play) and we showed some positive signs.
I've been impressed so far with some of the quality of teams and football played in the reserves so far this year in Div 2. Despite our heavy loss to Modbury, I still think Stirling are the classier side and the team to beat in the reserves this season so far.
