Standard compared to Ireland
Ive just moved from Ireland and am looking for a new club. Im just wondering does anyone know what the standard is like compared to the Irish not English divisions. I was thinking of playing top level Amateur soccer but a friend said I might be able to play in one of the two semi-pro divisions so I dont want to sign up if Im able for something better. I have played top level Amateur soccer in Ireland and U21 for a semi-pro team. Any help appreciated. Cheers...

Re: Standard compared to Ireland
div2 Saturday Modbury Jets would suit you fine. PM for more details.
In seriousness, try a Fed club close to home. If you get cut, you usually have plenty of time to join an amateur club before pre season friendlies.

Are ye not playing in the state league? Whats Div 2, do ye have more than 1 senior team?

Wow, you are green! Are you still at the airport?
Fed clubs are the semi pro clubs your mate told you about, I would suggest Metrostars as a place to start, but will admit there would be many forumites far more up to speed with Federation football than me and may have better advice.

We've got 3 senior teams and 1 very senior team. We also have a couple of paddies at the club too, so you could all tractor pool for games and eat mashed potato together.football365 wrote:Are ye not playing in the state league? Whats Div 2, do ye have more than 1 senior team?

murphy's just round the corner from him, we could just send him and blutey round with a sack of potatoes and 400 cans of guiness. They could discuss it over a quiet drink.

Head on down to Para Hills Knights wee man, they are in the Premier League which is the top league in the state. Lots of Irish, English and Jocks down there too, very friendly club. They are at the paddocks on Bridge Road Para Hills.

Re: Standard compared to Ireland
You should comfortably walk into most premier league teams. I payed cork city youth and for cobh in the first div and easily adjusted over hear. As suggested Metrostars, para hills or modbury jets are reasonably close heading north. Or Adelaide comets closer to the city. Look up the FFSA website for club details.
Re: Standard compared to Ireland
It will all be depending if the Premier League clubs will want to take a punt on having an additional 10 points added..
Re: Standard compared to Ireland
I would try at least 3 different clubs just to be sure to be sure to be sure !

In order of 'quality'football365 wrote:Is there a big dif between state and prem? My Oz mate plays here and said Sat and Sun are pretty much exact same?!
Premier League
State League
Sun Amateur Div 1
Saturday Amateur Div 1
Premier & State is just like having Div 1 and Div 2
Sun Amateur Div 1 has the edge on Saturday Amateur Div 2, but the gap is nowhere as big as some people like to think.
A few of the Amateur Div 1 teams could easily slide into the State League.

I'm afraid I'm much better at taking the piss than I am at football.

Re: Standard compared to Ireland
You've got State and Prem mixed up in that sentence.football365 wrote:Haha! So theres no big diff between top Amateur teams and Prem but is there a big jump to State then or still similar enough?
I wouldn't say it's a big jump from state to Prem - 'for comparison purposes only' (and before the pedants jump in) it's like the Championship and the EPL where State = Championship and Prem = EPL.
If you think you're good and can back it up then you should be trying for one of the top 6-8 teams in the Premier division.
