Riverland Soccer Clubs
I hear that there might be two clubs from the riverland looking to enter the SAASL for next season.
One is Renmark Olympic but not sure who the other team is, does anyone know who the second club might be?
Have they been in the SAASL before?

No shite but I have a friend serving some time in Mobilong Prison at Murray Bridge, They have been talking about getting a team together but don't know if they will push to join the amateur league or just the river land league. It will only be for the low security low risk prisoners. Could be them.

Mobilong must be the only club that never lost an away game ( all their games were played at home
If Renmark were to join SAASL Saturday comp, start in div 4, make some good bus trips ? they would play Greenock ( about 2hrs away ) and Strathalbyn ( about 3 hours away )

Re: Riverland Soccer Clubs
The other team would most likely be River Rangers ( play in Berri ), these 2 clubs were pretty much dominant up that way. Well they were when I was up there !! I do remember River Rangers being in the cup rounds going back a few years ago !!

Re: Riverland Soccer Clubs
Would it be more likely that the Riverland teams join the Collegiate League as the Riverland League is already affiliated under FFSA?
Re: Riverland Soccer Clubs
I know of a few teams that would be investigating the technicalities of dual registration for one or two of their players if Mobilong were playing!

Played them in 95 (ish) with the Gully, and had to go there twice as they weren't allowed to away games.BlackBrian_7 wrote:f*ck playing a team of prisoners.Caretaker Coach wrote:Mobilong must be the only club that never lost an away game ( all their games were played at home

Quite a daunting experience having to walk through the yard full of inmates to get to the gym where we got changed.
To this day, fairest, most spirited and honourable team I've played. Looking at the photos of the footy teams in the hallway outside the changerooms, I'm glad we were playing soccer!

Fair enough, I played against a remand centre when I was at Port Lion and they were hoods.Blueblood wrote:Played them in 95 (ish) with the Gully, and had to go there twice as they weren't allowed to away games.BlackBrian_7 wrote:f*ck playing a team of prisoners.Caretaker Coach wrote:Mobilong must be the only club that never lost an away game ( all their games were played at home

Was a complete waste of time, you couldn't shield the ball or they would start swinging punches and any sort of tackling broke out into a fight.

I have also heard that Mobilong was one of the most fairest sides running around.

I played them as well and agree with Bluebloods summary. It was a bit daunting, but the players were grateful that we had made the effort to get out there and give them a game.Blueblood wrote:Played them in 95 (ish) with the Gully, and had to go there twice as they weren't allowed to away games.BlackBrian_7 wrote:f*ck playing a team of prisoners.Caretaker Coach wrote:Mobilong must be the only club that never lost an away game ( all their games were played at home

That's probably a fair statement. I guess most of them would understand that it is a privilege for them to be amongst society albeit it's as close as they're going to get. Therefore they should know they need to toe the line in order for that privilege to continue.Cantona69 wrote:I played them as well and agree with Bluebloods summary. Here's a tip though for anyone that has to play them. Don't watch the movie Mean Machine beforehand!

Oh, the irony of someone from Ōmuta slagging off Kokura as inaka.
Re: Riverland Soccer Clubs
Would Mobilong have a gaolkeeper rather than a goalkeeper ?

Re: Riverland Soccer Clubs
We were told there were a core of about 3 or 4 guys, long serving and well behaved inmates that played almost every match, of which obviously one was captain. The remaining spots on the team were given as rewards and offered as incentives for certain things. They also said that they were all made fully aware there would be disciplinary measures taken for anybody playing dirty, starting fights or entering the book. In the games I played, there never even looked like anything breaking out, they tried their guts out, but weren't dirty. Like Cantona69 said, they seemed grateful.Fudpucker wrote:That's probably a fair statement. A lot of the guys were itching to chat, which surprised me, but understandable once you think about it. I think they also realised if they belted the shit out of every team, they'd only have half a seaon.
They also did their best to try and change what they obviously thought were everybody's perception of prisoners, and to prove they can be honourable and fair people. (rule abiding people).
The first time we went up, one of the lads brought his girlfriend. She had to wait outside til we were done.

Yep remeber that trip bluey,(95 was it, Geez) great team we had there, twas gaz that drove up in the HR with his girlfriend, she drove into Murray Bridge to kill some time, and was done in twenty minutes , had to wait 3 more hours before we finished. They were a hard but fair team. Who won the league that year?Blueblood wrote:We were told there were a core of about 3 or 4 guys, long serving and well behaved inmates that played almost every match, of which obviously one was captain. Some team called Dinamo on forfeit. Nobody played them coz their coach had gone nuts and pulled a gun out the season before and no ref would go there. Allegedly. We came second.Lance 23 wrote: Yep remeber that trip bluey,(95 was it, Geez) great team we had there, twas gaz that drove up in the HR with his girlfriend, she drove into Murray Bridge to kill some time, and was done in twenty minutes , had to wait 3 more hours before we finished. Edit: maybe 94!!

Re: Riverland Soccer Clubs
Used to be a prison team in my old league back home. No bother at all playing them. They lost benefits if they even got booked.
Players no bother at all but they had a couple of hundred on the line that were baying for blood!
They played all home games but they were only 30 minutes away. I'd have no bother playing against the prison on grand junction road than one that's that far away and having to go there twice.
Lost count of the jokes when the ball went over the fence - "I'll get it".

If it's just that then why mention the "at her majesty's pleasure" part?
I'll be honest, I wouldn't play if it was the week that my kids were with me but If it wasn't then it's a game of football so I'm in!

Well I can confirm that Mobilong Prison will definitely not be having a team in the SAASL, the prison bosses knocked back the idea and apparently said that it was unlikely that they will have a team anytime in the near future.
