The Qantas Young Socceroos have been defeated by Uzbekistan 2-1 in their opening match of the AFF U19 Tournament at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
A torrential downpour prior to kick-off meant that the match was played on a heavy, slow pitch which was not conducive to free flowing football.
Same old story with our junior sides. We dominate posession but can't cut it in the final third and as a result where it counts on the scoreboard.
Hopefully we see a improved performance tomorrow when we play Vietnam.

We got pumped 4-1
At least we got third place with another 4-0 win over Vietnam in the third place play off.
Iran went on to win to tournament.
Now with this squad we look forward to the 2012 AFC U-19 Championship on 23 November 2011. The top four teams will qualify directly to the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Hopefully by then maybe Dylan Tombides might be fit as we clearly need him! Hopefully also Jacob Melling will get some gametime with AU and earn a spot in the squad as well. I'm surprised he wasn't in the squad to begin with?
I watched last nights game. A 5-0 win over Chinese Taipei. I am not sure what happened the first match but the boys were impressive despite playing a poor side. They were well structured and totally attacked the opposition all match. A couple of AU boys in the side. I think D'Arrigo may have been captain.Lachlan Brook played well.
