Must see video for all coaches and parents
I came across this video recently
With all these 'issues' that come on here every Sunday arvo, either about the ref, or the cheating linesman, or the crazy/fighting parents, or the army style coach, or the parents wanting to know the score so desperately they can't wait until Tuesday etc, etc, etc, etc, and everything else that comes up
Yes it's a younger team, but at the end of the day, ALL the kids that go out to play every weekend just want to have fun and play with their mates .... yes, they want to win, but if they don't, it's us parents that have all the excuses why they didn't
At ALL ages, teach them dignity, humility, even when they win or lose, and lead by example, they learn from US !!
If this video doesn't put a smile on your face and gives you a reality check, then you're doing it ('it' being coaching, or driving your child to trainings and games) for the wrong reasons
Remember why we played sport when we were kids .... To keep fit and have fun !!!!

Thanks for listening, hopefully it changes some 'attitudes' out there ...

Kids playing football and having fun.......................plenty of time for all that serious stuff when they get older. Wonderful video.

Thanks. The video was good, wouldn't mind showing some parents and kids this, but might be hard for young kids to read the subtitles.

Re: Must see video for all coaches and parents
I have watched countless numbers of football related videos none of which highlight the joys of The Beautiful Game like this one does.
Will distribute it to all involved at Marlin Coast Rangers Football Club here in FNQ.

Brought back a lot of great memories; when I coached a team of about that age, in three years we won 2 drew several and lost the rest. Not once did the kids come off sad, crying or upset. All they wanted to do was play and have fun, which they did. The parents knew that they were just spectators, and put no pressure on the game. All the kids I coached back then, that hardly won a game, are all still playing and some at high a level.Željko Jurin wrote:I came across this video recently

As I've said before; parents should get a coffee and watch from a distance, have a laugh and remember it's a kids game.
Kids don't need to win to be great, they need to learn.
Might try organise a video night at the club.
Thanks Captain Croatia

Would have loved to see the faces when they eventually did "make a goal".
This should be compulsory viewing for all involved at all junior clubs.

Week in, week out we all see these people on the sidelines. As my two teens began to ref it became even more apparent - to the point my youngest had decided it will be hislast year of reffing. He has had enough. One less referee.
We can only hope the people who need to take a look "in the mirror" take heed if they see this video.
At least it is a start.

Enjoyed this video. What did happen to the old days where kids played sport for the enjoyment and not just to win?

Re: Must see video for all coaches and parents
Brilliant stuff..
271 - 1 Goals in a season and play for the love of it.. We would have kids leaving the game and sulking with 70 against in a season due to the pressure from parents and their win at all cost attitudes..
Question:
your team plays in under 8's and even though no score lines are meant to be kept a parent says at the end of the game we got smashed 6-2.
3 of the six goals came from the ref not calling the kids back 5 Mtrs and the defender is intercepted and they scored repeatedly. The other 3 goals via keeper kicks goal kick down the other end to a goal hanging forward and scores while the defenders are not allowed to move off the front of the penalty box directed continually throughout the game by the coach.
Your team scores two goals from goal kick out wide to the defender, defenders work hard with midfielders to get out of their own half and then break down the wing pass to a forward and score.
Who is the real winner in this game?
The one who scores 6 with long balls and pressuring from kickoffs pushing the boundaries of fair play (which both only involves 2-3 players out of the 7 in the team.)
Or
The one who scored two from built up passing play from the back to up front while learning to continually defend and win the ball from the pressure applied from the 5mtr bombarding rule.
I know which team is learning more for development for when they get older. Do the parents and some coaches who want to win at all cost at such a young age.
