The correct size will help.
One left and one right boot (unless you got two left feet).
Black boots will make you stand out from all those around you

Re: Best football boots for a defender?
Even though most companies will advertise that certain boots are for certain types of players it all comes down to what feels comfortable and what suit the conditions. I have a pair of boots for the wet and a pair for the dry conditions and go with leather as they mould better to your feet. I would however recommend that you go and try on a few types before you buy them, don't be sucked in by price because usually cheap and cheerful will split and tear before a top quality boot.
For the record I have found that Adidas Copa mundials are best for dry.......

Adidas Predator Mania's for the wet, an old classic.....

Re: Best football boots for a defender?
Personally i would go for the predators, great fit very easy to control the ball and great to shoot in..
The coppas are great boots but take a while to mould around your foot and they usually recommend that you get a size smaller then you usually wear as they stretch so makes it very difficult to get the right size when you are buying them for the first time

boots for a defender
puma kings for a defender as they help you tackle better. Copa's for strikers as they help you shoot straighter and with more power. Midfielders should wear predators as they're a bit like a cross trainers.
Goal keepers - who cares they're not real footballers.

Re: Best football boots for a defender?
The trouble with buying a good defender boot is that invariably you will get possession of the ball eventually and then you become an attacker. Then you are screwed.SCP wrote:Need to get some new boots and wanting to know what would be best suited for a defender?

Get stuffed. I played the offside trap and took throw-ins as good as any defender.God is an Englishman wrote:Goal keepers - who cares they're not real footballers.

Re: Best football boots for a defender?
It is also probably worth mentioning that most of the boots that flood our market are actually designed for European conditions. This will probably not be a huge problem in "perfect" wintery conditions when the ground is soft, but is problematic when the ground is a little harder under foot.
A few seasons ago I had some problems with horrific shin splints and it was only when I pulled the inners out of my $280 Kangaroo leather predators I realised all that separated the inner and the studs was a hard piece of cardboard. This is acutally common for almost all boots (including those with the largest pricetags). Running around with these boots on the hard ground in preseason/early season is undoubtedly where my issue stemmed from.
Asics design a range of boots for Australian conditions with a sole more like a shoe, and you can feel how much more support they have. They are a little "chunkier" but I will not wear anything but now and have had no problems since. Be careful though, we still get the "European" Asics too, I am pretty sure that any of the Asics boots with "Gel" have the extra support.

Are there any boots available for players sitting on the bench, or would you just recommend Ugg boots in winter, and thongs in summer ....

Yes I have this exact issue with my new predators. Pulled the innersole out due to having to wear orthotics, and my heels are in excruciating pain after 90 mins due to tough terrain.

At this level, you seriously think boots are your biggest impediment?!Ciudad Juarez wrote:Mmmmmmm more of a devensive midfielder bootmarado wrote:

Absolutely. The wrong boot for your position could be catastrophic.Chade wrote:At this level, you seriously think boots are your biggest impediment?!Ciudad Juarez wrote:Mmmmmmm more of a devensive midfielder bootmarado wrote:

I will change boots at half time if the coach moves me from a defensive position to an attacking one.

I haven't played a game in over 3 years, I'd be happy to get a spot on the bench with the shape I'm in... Just ask jurin, he likes reminding me.
