20th Anniversary EPL Squad

Post by Outlaw 2.0 »

Seeing as the Premier League has reached it's 20 year milestone, one can only assume that their will be a squad of the first 20 years named to celebrate.

Name yours......

The league changed name 20 years ago, just like it changed number of teams in the 80s too.

I thought better of you thinking it's that different?

And no it's not because LIverpool haven't won it in the past 20 years, if we are using that as an excuse Utd haven't won it 19 times.....

I'm not sure you understand the exercise? The English Premier League is 20 years old, in that time there has been many wonderful players that have graced the league. Given all those years and all those players put a squad together of the best in the English Premier Leagues history. I will start.......

So no room for John Barnes and Ian Rush, 2 of the best players ever in the English game?

The English Premier League in name is 20 years old. You are right I don't understand the point.

The league in 1991 was no different to 1992.

I'd take Giggs over Barnes and both Cantona and Henry over Rush.

Irrelevant anyway, as he cleary said EPL and not prior. If you wanna make it an all-time English league XI then the team he listed isn't really accurate now, is it?

Unless I am going senile, and all the players I mentioned played in the last 20 years.

However good Giggs is, for every great goal Giggs scored, Barnes will have got more.....i was lucky enough to be at every game he scored in for LFC (minus his hat trick v Crewe in the FA Cup).

Rush was not the greatest scorer in the greatest team for no reason.....but Henry and Cantona played differently, so can't compare them.

Yes, but when did they have their peak? They did not win any titles in the EPL era, did not perform as well. I'm sure there are many good players who played through the 80s till mid-early 90s.. But I don't think they should really be eligible for this list if they did not have success in it.

Your rating Barnes ahead of Giggs? Haha please
Theres a reason Giggs is still playing at the highest level

And u didn't c every goal that Barnes scored cause u missed the hat trick in the FA cup remember ;)

So its now age ahead of longevity and when they peaked?

I saw the game v Crewe on TV later than night. It was freezing scold, it was his first game of the season, back after an achilles injury and he was superb.

So some may think Giggs was better, please justify it rather than just >>>>>>signs and because he is still playing.

I will give you kids a bit of a history lesson, in the early-mid 90s Giggs and McManaman were often compared, Barnes was streets ahead of them both. Macca went on to do well and star for Real Madrid, Giggs also raised his level and has maintained a good level, and no one would doubt he became better than McManaman. No one ever though he was in Barnes class though.....don't let facts change your views. How old were you all when Barnes was at hiscbest? Old enough to have seen yourself or just the goals you see on youtube???? I think being at agmes is a bit better view than to a screen.

You also obviously think Emile is better than Owen then, as he is still playing?

Umm, why not stop the bitching and do what was asked...name YOUR best squad from the last 20 years.
No right or wrong, just your opinions. Is it really that hard?

I think playing in a World Cup trumps most of them things  You can be great player and not win much, Le Tisser was outstanding.

Owen is at Man utd, not playing :D

As for goal, I think Barnes scored more and in less games. That may be wrong I need to check.

If Wiki is accurate the goals is more one sided than I thought.

Barnes 586games 165 goals
Giggs 630 games 111 goals

Internationals Giggs has one more goal in less games.

I think people forget just how good Barnes was.

He only played 5 or 6, but he is one of the best players ever to play in the league in the past 20 years.

If it's players at their best in the past 20, then I wouldn't have Irwin at right back, he could play there I would have had Dixon. I would have ut Irwin ahead of Cole. Buts its all subjective.

In other threads some are saying Kewell, Viduka, Kuyt are world greats...so they obviously have to be there too!

its very subjective, but irwin gave set piece ability to, had a great cross and could play both left and right back, quality player

kewell would be close, as would dukes, kuyt needs more goals, like his early days

come on NT, you know these cons didn't even know there was life before the premier league. Anyone that thinks that the league suddenly changed in one year because of a name change is VERY mistaken.

It took a good 5 years to change and become the shit it is now.
