USC Lion weakened for 2012???

Not sure how true this one is but I was told that Lion has had quite a few
players leave and are heading to another club just up the road.

After the early part of last year this would make sense but they seemed to get
quite a few good players back and finished the year strong.

Anyone from the Lion Den that can confirm or deny?

Once again, heard this from one person only but usually he is on the ball with these things...

Unfortunately the club has been on the downward slide for a long time. Lack of volunteers and poor governance are major contributing factors. It's sad because there are some very good people down there.

Apparently, a crisis meeting to be held at the club on Wednesday where its future will be decided.

Out of respect for the club I won't say anything else until then.

Why wouldn't the SAASL try & assist USC or VIKINGS survive ???
Even if it was just advice or recommending players to there Clubs, may-be a few free adds to advertise for players for these Clubs?

Meaning of Association: (origin 16th century) United in a Common Purpose.
A connection or cooperative link between organizations.

I believe the SAASL or any other sporting body has a responsibility to its Clubs to help & assist them be as Stong as possible. I don't believe Our Association should do nothing when Clubs fall on hard times & just allow them to fold.
Remember that both USC & VIKINGS have a stake holding of the million plus dollars our Association has in the Bank as do every other Club in our Association...

Well said Nuggett.......but its the start of what's to come, and it makes me laugh how they can allow new clubs to enter without the league doing their due diligence. I've heard of a club starting up, wanting to enter 2 teams in the Saturday league, with no ground, money, structure or support...to top it off, can't speak a word of english between them. The league has encountered this scenario many time in the past, with the end result being a short existence.

I have a fair few mates that have played at Lion in the last 3 years. They moved there with the knowledge that the club had a solid foundation and wanted to move forward. Unfortunately it has been left up to the players to keep the club ticking with no structure or back room management in place.

No.1 rule to running your own club is having the structure and know how to run it properly off the field.
If you can't tick that box off, don't bother IMO.

I think the other thing here is whilst it is sad that clubs ultimately fold, it is also important to note that there are clubs out there that try to poach players from clubs. This is something that has annoyed me for a lot of years that clubs try to poach players from clubs. My feeling is that if a player is not happy at a club they will leave of their own decision, but if a club tries to poach them, they generally do it without thought to the club or player involved because the new club will generally then try to take more than 1 player.

I would imagine this to be the case with Vikings / FC Adelaide & now possibly USC Lion.

Good luck to those clubs and players affected, and I hope that players that do leave, do it for the right reason.

I am not saying that has happened at Lion, and I hope that it doesnt happen to any other clubs, but unfortunately it is becoming more and more evident that some clubs out there spend a lot of effort to poach players.

We are all here to enjoy the game and participate. Some good friendships are formed at clubs, and unfortunately there are people out there that dont think of all the ramifications when they start putting the hard word on certain players to poach.

The other point I did not mention is that with age some of us just cant commit to playing like we did in our hey day - and unfortunately some of the older clubs will continue to struggle to stay alive without adapting and speaking to the kids coming out of high school. The bigger Federation clubs out there try their hardest to get all the interested ones immediately - and half of them do not have the decency to let the ones they dont want to support or teach, to let them go and try some of the amateur clubs out there.

Not really. Poaching and recruiting are different. To poach players is poor. Id hate if I were a coach and I have these people constantly trying to come and convince my players to leave. If the players want to go for their own personal reasons, then they are entitled too. I totally agree with darkknight's comment.

Here we go again Go Pull it, it's the Money why Gardens gets the Players!

You wouldn't have a FK'N clue what happens at the GARDENS or how much players get paid or why they are there.
Tapey has only ever played for one Club, the Gardens, both Stam's started at the Gardens before they went to Federation & were always coming home. Foaty played in the 2002 Championship Team has captained the club his parents have supported the Gardens for years. Kaftans been one of the Best defenders for years & has refused so many offers but remains loyal also has his family there. Foster has always wanted to play for the Gardens after watching his old man play there & he came to play with his mates. Golder qualified for player life membership this year. Mc Connell & his brother are a product of our Junior set up, wait till you see Brendan play! Chief Ebomo has had Money thrown at him from loads of Federation Clubs but remains loyal on heaps less. Freddy has loads of Family & Friends at our Club which is why he chose the Gardens. Burford did his ACL 10 years ago at the Gardens & returned for a Championship & Cup.

Like I said Go Pull It you know sh*t about our Club & have no idea why our Players are there...
