Australian Masters Games Champions 40+

Post by kramerica »

A combination team called "Complete" put together by Sacred Noodle, which included players from Amateur clubs Budapest, Comets, Fulham United and Vipers, amongst others, took out the Gold medal in the 40+ age group. The team was sponsored by Complete (who own the Duke, Excellcior & Stag Hotels).

You could not have written a better script to a final, between Dunrootin (Newcastle team) & Complete (Adelaide team).
Complete, with the opener up 1-0
Dunrootin with an equaliser 1-1
Dunrooting with another 2-1
Complete with 5mins from full time with another 2-2
Game goes into extra time and ends 2-2 and into penalties.

Complete miss there first 2 and Dunrootin put away there first two, game is all but over...............but
Complete keeper (former Salisbury Inter Keeper), pulls off three fine saves, and complete put all the next three away!
GOLD MEDAL WINNERS! YOU BEAUTY!

Was only able to play in 1 game but my hat goes out to the guys that are able to play that amount of games in 6 days - great effort.

Great week, great team effort 9 games in one week was a killer supposed to be 10 but dropped our last to rest as we didnt need the points and our plus goal difference was way above (mainly thanks to Zeljko Popovic... think he ended up with 17 Goals) Peter Costanzo and John Katsabis both with a few and the rest of us with 1 or 2.

Good representation for the SA Amature league as well as the great Mouse... Nick Mousoulis.. considering coming from all different teams gelled well against some good opposition.

The Dunrootin United team mainly from NSW with one South Aussie in the mix won the last World Masters and actually held "Trials" to pick their squad.

Had to beat Bentleigh Greens (an Elite Team from Melbourne) in the semi to make ot to the Gold medal play off and did so with a 2-0 win - they had a couple of classy players including an Argentinean who played for River Plate .. apparently there was another Argentine who had played in Spain.

Will post up a team list at some stage.

Congratulations and well done to the 'Adelaide Complete' team who competed in the 40+ football competition in the 13th Australian Masters Games.
Who would have thought that a team that came together only a few weeks before the games started would take out the Gold Medal, particularly after losing 3-1 in the first game to the eventual silver medalists 'Dunrooten' (and previous Masters champs).
Top notch effort to say the least and what a nail biting Final.
To our sponsor and all the players who participated many thanks.
It was truly a great effort and committment to play 10 games in 6 days.
I am sure there will be some sore and battle scared bodies which will require some well deserved rest......

"We are the Champions...."

Yes. One of the best for his Age, played in the Sunday League for a few clubs. In the final Penalty shoot out he saved their third penalty, they missed there fourth (distracted by the GK) and he pulled off a brilliant bottom left hand corner finger tip save, to put us in th box seat to win the game with the final Penalty. What a champ!

Must have had a good mentor

Bruce is in this Downs squad photo from 1986...second from the left at the front !

Name correction....I just realised the player shown as Colin Hill is actually Colin Herd !

Think he still considers himself an Inter boy...

By the way most of the guys who played at the masters recently are keen on playing at the Pan Pacific games on the Gold Coast next year. (Some are talking about the Worlds in Torino Italy ... hmm?)..

There were apparently about 114 teams (Soccer/Football) last time there (2010) and they say next ones will be bigger ..would be good to get a few teams up there from the SA Amateur league ... being at the GC say it would be a pretty good week on and off the pitch..
