Statement from SA Amateur Soccer League
Statement from SA Amateur Soccer League
Tuesday 23rd August 2011
The extremely disturbing incidents that occurred on Sunday between two clubs in the SAASL Sunday Div 4 competition is abhorrent to and condemned by the SAASL Management Committee, all SAASL clubs and the football community.
The SAASL Executive is currently investigating all matters pertaining to the incident, in accordance with SAASL Rules and Regulations, which includes interviewing the executives of both Clubs, the officiating Referee and may also seek the assistance of the SA Police.
The investigation will also determine if the Clubs involved had complied with the SAASL’s regulations and guidelines regarding the standards of behaviour and the codes of conduct for players, coaches and club officials as well as the requirement for game day Club Marshalls and Officials.
The SAASL will fully co-operate with any investigation undertaken and will fully support any criminal charges being brought by SA Police. We encourage all witnesses to come forward and provide any information to the SA Police regarding this matter.
Once the investigation is completed, the SAASL Management Committee will meet to determine the appropriate sanctions that will be imposed on the Clubs, players, and officials as permitted under the SAASL Constitution and the Competition Rules and Regulations. The member Clubs of the SAASL will be advised of the outcome in due course.
The SAASL has a strong history over 47 years as a volunteer based organisation supporting the local community and the grass roots of football. With 93 Clubs, 4600 players, 140 fixtures per weekend, the SAASL proudly provides a low cost, well organised and structured amateur football competition for all parts of the community, without the boundaries of ethnicity, religion or ability.
The SAASL has provided, self funded since 2006, the opportunity for many new arrivals and their communities to assimilate into the Australian community through one common thread, Football.
The SAASL is extremely concerned about the comments attributed to several parties in the Advertiser on Tuesday 23rd August 2011, including the Minister for Sport.
The SAASL is currently seeking advice in relation to the unwarranted and generalised comments regarding the reputation of the SAASL and the Clubs in the community, SAASL’s financial position, the impasse with the FFSA and the criticism of the SA Amateur Soccer Referees body and will prepare a considered response in due course.
The SAASL, and member Clubs, strongly condemn violence in sport and the community and already have an established set of guidelines, Rules and Regulations that ensures Clubs are accountable for the actions of their officials, players, members and supporters at SAASL games.

thats fine, they didn't commit to anything, the showed the are taking it seriously and investigating it, plus showed what the are all about by giving some info about the comp, they needed to break silence and this does it well, they will now work with the police and come to a suitable conclusion, but if a player is charged then they will be kicked out, like besa wasontheblackburner wrote:If you read it carefully, it says a lot without saying much

Finally a statement from the SAASL. Good to hear they are taking this all seriously.
Interesting reading between the lines that there could be a comeback on those that slagged the SAASL over the last couple of days!
Looking forward to what happens next.

Fantasic statement by Mr. Alex Cichanowski the General Secretary & exactly what is needed at this time. These people like the Minister of Sport who sits in his ivory towers making deogratory media statements bagging our Association who wouldn't have a clue what happens in the real world, need to be held accountable.

slander, he can be held accountable for that, he should not bag a sporting organisation, despite what affiliation it may or may not have, in mainstream media when an investigation is still being carried out, very unprofessional, you should be supporting the saasl not him
Re: Statement from SA Amateur Soccer League
his department funded the saasl to the tune of $135k to integrate refugee group team. a refugee group team causes issues on sunday. pretty sure he can question why he is funding the saasl at that point.

Kenyon is a hard-working Minister who is fully entitled to ask questions given how much the Department has funded the association.
Further he is fully aware of the good clubs do, he was an invited guest to the charity game this year. (I think he sent someone on his behalf)

Re: Statement from SA Amateur Soccer League
An excellent response from the SAASL.
Give the league the opportunity to get all the facts about this incident and they will act accordingly.
I agree, this league has provided a cheap competition for all over long period of time, lets give credit to it for the good things, and not to try destroy the league because of a few hotheads.
Whether we like it or not incidents like this will happen occasionally not only in amateur soccer but in schoolboys football, rugby, FFSA, etc.
Politicians want to be in the limelight as 'do-gooders' and be in the limelight, the media want a headline.
I wonder whether the politician has ever been to an amateur soccer game to observe the enjoyment and social interaction the game brings to many.
Support the SAASL and their volunteers in their quest to resolve the issue.

Re: Statement from SA Amateur Soccer League
I can't believe they have only thrown in $135K. That's the disgrace.
Given the size and success of the SAASL as a sporting association in this state with 4,600+ members - and the Government can only manage to find $29 per individual to contribute - what a joke.
That alone surely says "HE GETS NO SAY"

$135k? For that much, saasl could've paid for a part time committee & coach to help set up the club and educate them.

The investigation will also determine if the Clubs involved had complied with the SAASL’s regulations and guidelines regarding the standards of behaviour and the codes of conduct for players, coaches and club officials as well as the requirement for game day Club Marshalls and Officials...........whatever.... i heard that the amatuer league had a please explain meeting tonight. and get this.. invited both teams at the same time.... after what i saw and read about the weekends rabble... clearly the amatuers have been going for 47 years but are just that... amatuers.. and before anyone replies. yes iam of foreign origin

What I would Expect OUR Minister For Sport to say is something like....
You can't blame or Judge the SAASL or the other 90 Clubs for this incident they do a Fantastic job for our Community & have done successfully for 47yrs this is a isolated incident & I am sure they with the help from my Department will handle this situation quickly & appropriately.
Just the other day I was ask to one of the many Charity Days Organised & Run by one of these 90 Clubs.
Something to that affect, not what he did! He basically spoke about the funding of our sport & he will look into if that funding is appropriate ???
