Parafield Gardens ( 3 ) BOSA ( 2 ) Challenge Cup ..with pics

Post by swannsong »

Challenge Cup - Quarter Finals
Parafield Gardens ( 3 ) BOSA ( 2 )
Jarred Foster - 64' .................. Joseph Tasovac - 88'
Bradley Donovan - 93' ...............Benjamin Watt - 91'
Michael Brooks - 102'

Good game to watch as a neutral with some excellent football on display and handled intelligently by referee Steve Craggs...keen to play the advantage and let the game flow, whilst communicating with the players.
BOSA pushed last years Sunday Premier Champions and Challenge Cup holders all the way and some sweet passing football was on display.
In my eyes, player of the game was BOSA's Joe Tasovac, who was on top of Paul Ebomo for most of the day and dominated the aerial challenges.
Dino Menillo provided BOSA with a lot of flair but was in and out of the game as was Garden's Freddy Agius. Michael Brooks up front for Gardens was always a target and laid of the ball well for Jarred Foster, Stephen Spiby and Kirk Burfoot.
Garden's opener came at 64' when Jarred Foster was able to break through drive the ball passed BOSA's keeper.
Several minutes later Gardens could have gone 2-0 up but the usually dependable Michael Brooks sprayed a penalty kick wide of the goals.
Not soon after, Joseph Tasovac overcame Anthony Stam's mind games to calmly convert a penalty resulting from Anthony Menillo being upended ( combined with a huge bellowing aaarrggghhh ! ).
With full time moments away BOSA's Benjamin Watt broke through and was able to angle the ball passed Anthony Stam to give BOSA a 2-1 lead.
From the kick off Gardens were able to force a corner and Anthony Stam raced forward into the BOSA area to give his support.
Freddy Agius sent in a corner that evaded all but substitute Bradley Donovan who headed home to rescue Gardens hopes moments before the full time whistle.
In extra time after about 10 minutes, Michael Brooks was able to latch on to a centred cross and hammer the ball home to give Gardens a 3-2 lead.
BOSA, to their credit, pushed Gardens and a little Anthony Stam excellence helped Gardens hang on till the end of extra time and book a spot in the Semi Finals.

Some nice pics as usual swanny, just a side note, for 'history' purposes, the penalty against gardens was actually given for the defender dragging down the other BOSA player, because gardens were told by the ref that they shouldnt complain because he could have given the penalty for the challenge on dino. Also freddy's corner was flicked on from the near post to set donovan up with the header. Doesnt matter because they still won, but like i said, its for history purposes  8)

Exactly right he gave the finger a minute too early  & didn't he cop it after that...
Even the Bosa supporter who ran over & got in the face of our supporters was only very vocal for a minute before he had to run back to there side with his tail between his legs  Very funny to watch

Clubs are about people NUGGETT, trophies are there to talk about when you're sitting around the bar in comfort having a drink with mates you have shared 20+ years of football with.
Tables and chairs and a pleasant environment show that the Club is investing time and money into more than just putting a competitive team on the field.
Trophies are good, no mistaking that, but the Club and it's people are is what it is about,,the Mary Stevens, the Les Andrews, the Mottrams etc etc.
My 25 years as a player with the Downs are in no way lessened by a shortage of "big" trophies...however, I do treasure the one's I received as part of a team (club) and the players and supporters that shared those moments with me.

A Club isn't about 1 or 2 years, it's about the lifespan of the Club,....successes come from both on and off the field.
