MATCH OF THE DAY
Elizabeth Vale vs Parafield Gardens
PARAFIELD Gardens have taken a huge step towards back to back League Championships after a 9-2 thumping of Elizabeth Vale at Moflin Road.
Three goals in the opening 25 minutes all but sealed the victory for the visitors.
The first goal came in the 7th minute from a low corner to the front post from Freddy Aguis which wasn’t dealt with by the Vale defense and Jarred Foster was on hand to tap it in.
Gardens doubled their lead in the 15th minute when a defense splitting pass from Aguis found Michael Brooks who slid the ball home.
In the 25th minute the game was all but over when Aguis was played through on the left hand side before he cut in and buried his chance and the chances of the Vale.
Any thought of a Vale revival was put to bed in the 49th minute when captain Paul Ebomo picked up the ball 20 yards out before moving it on to his right foot and hammering his shot in off the post.
The Vale was in disarray and in the 50th minute they fell 5-0 behind when Aguis picked out Brooks who beat a defender before firing home his second.
On 57 minutes Brooks completed his hat trick when Aguis slid a ball through to him leaving him an open goal which he coolly found to make it 6-0.
The Vale who had hardly given a yelp then struck twice in three minutes when Chris Nicholls played in Tim Crawford who finished well in the 61st minute and then Daniel Nicholls rose high at the back post to header the Vale back to 6-2.
The Vale may have harbored hopes of a miracle come back but it wasn’t to be as Brooks scored another two to take his tally for the day to five while Aguis scored his second to make it 9-2.
Gardens coach Steve Cook was obviously happy “We really did turn it on and put a team to bed which was pleasing” Cook paid tribute to Aguis and Brooks “Some of their link up play was fantastic”
While pleased with the win Gardens aren’t getting ahead of themselves “its one week at a time for us, we take the three points and move on to next week”.
Elizabeth Grove vs West Beach
ELIZABETH Grove has tasted its first win at home since April with a 2-1 win over bottom of the table West Beach at Dauntsey Road.
The Peckers took the lead in only the third minute when their ace striker Boree Kieng crossed a ball in that Beach keeper Dave Borovnik could only parry into his net.
On 20 minutes the Grove were awarded a penalty but Kieng couldn’t add to his tally as Borovnik made up for his earlier error with a fantastic save to keep the visitors in the contest.
The Peckers doubled their lead on 25 minutes when Nathan King switched the ball to the left hand side finding Kieng who then cut in and finished in style to send the home fans wild.
West Beach were handed a way back into the game on 30 minutes when Grove keeper Steve Doolan was given his marching orders and from that moment the visitors dominated possession.
West Beach halved the deficit in the 65th minute when Louis McFadyen played in Luke Cannon who smashed the ball into the net to give the visitors hope of a comeback.
Try as they might West Beach were unable to find another goal and as has been the case throughout the year they would finish the game pointless going down 2-1.
Grove coach Shane Ferdinand was proud of his team “It was good to get a win at home. I thought Brad Docherty ran his heart out after we went down to 10 men.”
Ferdinand is keen for his team to push hard in the remainder of the season “We want to finish as high up the table as possible”.
Beach Coach Josh Hilditch was left disappointed “This game was just indicative of our season we created chances and didn’t take them”.
Elizabeth Downs vs Fulham
FULHAM’s hopes of survival in the Premier Division have taken a massive boost after a shock 2-0 win over Elizabeth Downs at Argana Park.
Fulham came into the game on the back of a 2-0 win over Para Hills East while the Downs were looking to bounce back after a 4-1 loss to Salisbury Florina.
The opening half finished goalless with Elizabeth Downs dominating possession but unable to create any clear cut chances while Fulham forced Downs keeper Ben Aldridge to make a couple of outstanding saves with some quick counter attacks.
Five minutes after the break Fulham took the lead when Tony Sacca whipped in a dangerous ball and Maroons defender Tony Parisi looked to clear it but was unlucky to see the ball deflect into his own net.
Fulham now looked supremely confident and in the 75th minute they sealed the win when Paul Matteo was played through before composing himself and rounding the keeper to make it 2-0.
The win now gives Fulham a four point buffer above the ninth placed Salisbury Florina in the drop zone which clearly is pleasing for coach Lawrie Sancilio “It was a good performance, the boys really stood up. It just shows when we get our best team on the park we are good enough”.
Downs assistant coach Andrew Dreyer knows the challenge ahead “The challenge for us is to keep everyone upbeat for the rest of the season because it’s really important that we finish the year strongly”.
Para Hills East vs Pontian
PONTIAN remain four points adrift of Parafield Gardens after a dramatic 89th minute goal ensured a 2-1 win over Para Hills East at Para Hills Oval.
The game was played in tough wet conditions and neither side took a backward step with a lot of physical challenges laid in the early going.
Championship contenders Pontian grabbed the lead in the 20th minute thanks to a wonder strike from Gary Williams who let fly from 35 yards to make it 1-0.
Easties Jarred Noel worked his socks off in the midfield and in the 65th minute the home team got back on level terms.
Aaron Smith played star striker Chris Miller through and when his shot rebounded off the post Graham Cook was on hand to make it 1-1.
When these sides met back in round 6 Pontian clinched a 3-2 win in stoppage time and they left it late in this one as well.
Pontian received a corner and after a goal mouth scramble Jamie Murat was on hand to make it 2-1 and keep Pontian in touch of Gardens with three matches remaining.
Pontian coach George Kargiotis felt his side deserved the win “Another good win in tough conditions. We need to keep working on breaking teams down, today it came late but I thought it was deserved considering chances we created”.
East coach Ryan Mogg was disappointed “I felt a draw would have been a fair result”.
Ingle Farm vs Salisbury Florina
INGLE Farm has consolidated third spot on the table with a 5-1 thumping of the relegation threatened Salisbury Florina at Walkleys Park.
Ingle Farm have been the inform team of the competition over the last two months but it took an own goal from Florina’s Anthony Degioa to give the Farmers a 1-0 lead which they took to the half time break.
After the break the attacking Farm machine got into stride with Matt Cocks and Luke Air both getting on the score sheet to put the game beyond Florina.
Florina pegged the score back to 3-1 with youngster Brayden Jarmen scoring to give the Florina fans hopes of a revival.
That flicker of hope was soon extinguished when Air grabbed his second while substitute Lachlan Campbell finished the rout to leave Florina in real danger of being relegated.
Florina are now four points behind Fulham with two games remaining in what is now looking like a mountain to high to climb.
Farm coach Paul Simpson was happy with his side’s performance “I felt we really ran them off their feet in the second half. We had a few boys out today but those who came in acquitted themselves well”.
