Round 10 Premier League Preview
SAASL Premier League Round 10 Preview
SALISBURY FLORINA vs. ELIZABETH GROVE
Current League Standing- Florina 9th, Grove 5th
Recent Match ups- 2011 Rd 1 Grove 10-1 at Dauntsey Rd
FLORINA have waited nine rounds for their chance at redemption from their round 1 nightmare 10-1 loss at the hands of the Peckers.
On recent form they are every chance.
Florina has won their last two home games having accounted for West Beach 3-0 in round 8 and Brahma Lodge 3-2 in Round 2 of the Cup with Amarildo Grishaj in sparkling form.
On the other hand the Peckers are in the midst of a goal drought that has seen them play 405minutes since their last goal.
So where will the goals come from for the Peckers?
Welcome back Boree Kieng!
The man who pumped in eight league goals in the opening five rounds is back and the Grove fans will be hopeful his return will end the drought.
This game will be an intriguing battle.
Prediction- Draw 2-2
ELIZABETH VALE vs. PARA HILLS EAST
Current League Standing- Vale 3rd, East 7th
Recent Match ups- 2011 Rd 1 Draw 3-3 at Para Hills Oval
THE Vale is up and about having beaten top of the table Pontian 3-0 and they will be brimming with confidence for this one.
They face a Para Hills East side that is starting to struggle under the weight of injuries to key players that has seen them pick up only one point from their last four league games..
It’s hard to see the Vale losing although they suffered their fair share of injuries in the Pontian game with Chris Nicholls, Tim Crawford and Dave Westall all doubtful for this one.
Despite that the Vale seems to have better depth and with Mark Burbridge on fire and Daniel Nicholls striking form you fancy the Vale to make it six wins on the trot.
Prediction- Vale 2-0
PARAFIELD GARDENS vs. FULHAM
Current League Standing- Gardens 2nd, Fulham 8th
Recent Match ups- 2011 Rd 1 Gardens 3-1 at Collins Reserve
2010 Rd 14 Gardens 1-0 at Collins Reserve
2010 Rd 5 Gardens 1-0 at Collins Reserve
GARDENS are back at the top of the table and they face a Fulham team who are struggling down in eight place.
It’s hard to build a case for an upset here but Fulham has been competitive in their last three encounters against the 2010 champions and would be looking to take it up to Steve Cooks Parafield outfit.
The good news for the visitors is that Gardens will be without Michael Brooks who was sent off against his old club Salisbury Florina last week.
Gardens will be looking for Andy McConnell and Jarred Foster to pick up the slack up front.
Nick Scaleri has been in good form in the Fulham goal and he will need to be at his best if Fulham are to take anything from the game.
Expect Gardens to win comfortably.
Prediction- Gardens 4-1
WEST BEACH vs. PONTIAN
Current League Standing- West Beach 10th, Pontian 2nd
Recent Match ups- 2011 Rd 1 Pontian 4-0 at Ferryden Pk
2010 Rd 11Beach 2-0 at Ferryden Pk
2010 Rd 2 Pontian 3-2 at Lockleys Oval
THIS is the danger game of the round.
Pontian come into the game after a loss to Elizabeth Vale and most would predict that they will bounce back against the bottom placed Beach outfit.
West Beach has played attractive football all season but has been unable to capitalize on that with goals.
You feel like a win is coming and Pontian will need to come to play to ensure that doesn’t happen.
You couldn’t blame Pontian for thinking a week ahead to the Gardens game in round 11 but first things first they need three points here.
Anthony Matteo always gets on the end of chances and after squandering many against the Vale last week you would expect him to get on the score sheet here.
Pontian won 4-0 in round 1 but this will be a closer affair at Lockleys oval.
Prediction- Pontian 1-0
INGLE FARM vs ELIZABETH DOWNS
Current League Standing- Farm 6th, Downs 4th
Recent Match ups- 2011 Rd 1 Downs 2-1 at Argana Pk
2010 Rd 12 Downs 1-0 at Walkley Pk
2010 Rd 3 Draw 2-2 at Argana Pk
THIS clash holds match of the day status with the inform Ingle Farm looking forward to hosting the championship hopefuls Elizabeth Downs.
This is a massive game for the visitors.
Win and you would start believing they have what it takes to win the League.
Lose and they are just about gone!
Already four points adrift of Gardens, the maroons need to claim all three points here and are likely to welcome back star player Nathan Day.
The home team has won four of its last five after a horror start with surprise packet Luke Air scoring six goals in his last six games.
The Downs have a good recent record against the Farmers and have found scoring easier away than at home.
This is a toss of the coin job.
Prediction- Ingle Farm 2-1
