South Australian women's soccer will live on
ADELAIDE United's women's team have been spared a cruel death.
While Adelaide chairman Greg Griffin declared the Lady Reds defunct, SA will have a W-League representative in the national competition at least for the next five years.
Adelaide, Football Federation SA and the Department for Recreation and Sport will run the team in a joint venture, Griffin said.
"We're just waiting for the Department for Recreation and Sport to sign it off," Griffin said.
"But we're starting with a clean slate, all jobs will be advertised and we're going to be heavily emphasising on youth.
"We'll be looking to give 16- to 20-year-olds a chance and in years to come we're hoping to produce Matildas."
Griffin said the club was also working to hand talented indigenous players a fair chance to be part of the new-Look woman's team.
Adelaide would not tolerate players flying in from interstate just for games as it had done in the past, he said.
"The players must live here, train and be part of the team," he said.
"Last season it was saddening watching the lack of motivation and the beltings."

Re: South Australian women's soccer will live on
Great news! I wonder if any of the interstate players will live here during the season or whether they will move on? Perhaps it would be better now to just use local players and develop them and build them into a strong team for the future.
Re: South Australian women's soccer will live on
My question is who are the players?
Same old AU? or will it be the local ones + prem/state/sasi
Will there be a trial period or will it be by invite?
Obviously we want a home grown coach experienced in Women's football but where would they come from?
A few questions to answer which I am sure they will. Also will it be Adel united still or something else?
i am glad from the girls perspective that they have another level to aspire to.

The name will stay. Dont forget other W-League clubs such as Melbourne are run the same way as the Lady Reds and still have the same name. Im interested as to who the coach will be for the new season but im sure it wont be too hard to find someone better than Barnett.pc9999 wrote:My question is who are the players?

Re: South Australian women's soccer will live on
The big question we should ask is...WHO WILL BE THE COACH???
Please FFSA, you have the chance to get something right for once!
Let's pick some local women's coach who knows players and has the passion to get us the result we all want to see!!!

Big ask, they will need a couple of years at least.Bad Egg wrote:The big question we should ask is...WHO WILL BE THE COACH???

Given the 3 years of torture whoever the coach is they will have to rebuild and balance. Let alone the weight of expectation.
Re: South Australian women's soccer will live on
The big issue with the coach will be coaching accreditation. Coaches is the W-League have to have a at least an Asian B Licence. Not sure if we have to many coaches in womans football who have that. Kev at SASI would be the only one I think.

No offence to NB, she's great and everybody loves her but this is her first season as a coach and she is demonstrating that she needs lots more knowledge...Not exactly great result at Fulham.
I guess you guys are joking! good luck to Nenita though, really hope she sticks to what she's doing, things can only improve![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

It's really important for all of us to nurture and support talented women who have played at a high level and want to go into coaching- important for FFSA to provide resources and opportunities for them. Best of luck to Nenita and I hope that she stays with it- the girls in SA need more like her who are willing to step up and commit themselves to coaching.

Re: South Australian women's soccer will live on
I think coaching licenses are over rated, I think it has to be someone who can get the best out of the players 100% of the time, who has the ability to develop good players into better players. I saw the group of players Sharon Black had to work with at the start of the season, and saw them again just recently, and I think she has done an outstanding job in developing those players,in such a short time, and as far as I am aware,I dont think she has too many of the superstars that other clubs are blessed with.
Only thing with naming a Club Coach,it will interfere with their club commitments, because really, they should be appointing that person very soon. This will allow the coach to go and watch players in action,on game day,and start making a provisional list of players. That is if we are serious about being competitive in the W League.
Player selection will also be interesting, last season we had a few who were playing on past reputation, were lucky to be in the side. ALL the players selected, need to be totally focussed and be willing to do whatever it takes to best prepare themselves for the whole W-League season. Cannot have players who will want to party till all hours,or, who are not prepared to chase and work hard. I believe we have enough here to work with, without going all over the countryside.
Look at last season's A League final, both coached by Australians, who have represented their country, and have overseas experience, and look at what Rick Herbet has done with New Zealand soccer.
Just my opinion.

Even if it is a joke, I can tell you that Fulham's results are not at all a good reflection on Neits's coaching ability. She's an awesome coach and is doing the best with the young squad she hasBad Egg wrote:No offence to NB, she's great and everybody loves her but this is her first season as a coach and she is demonstrating that she needs lots more knowledge...Not exactly great result at Fulham.I guess you guys are joking! good luck to Nenita though, really hope she sticks to what she's doing, things can only improve

Re: South Australian women's soccer will live on
This is wonderful news and I have been reading the posts with interest!
Lots of questions for sure.
The most important thing (as many of you have pointed out) is to give some of our local youth (the whole state) a chance and work with them in the long term (not burn them into the ground!!) and nurture them. These young players need lots of 'support structures' around them in order to shine and to bring out the best in them.. not just the best coaches, but people who care about these girls' lives - not just at training. It's not just about the soccer... it's the whole package.
The other important element will be that whatever process is used to a) select players & b) select the coach...etc, it must be transparent to the soccer community.
No egos, no personal agendas and no 'only certain players'......or those that are 'currently' known....
At the end of the day, women's soccer WILL flourish if we put aside all political, cutural, club, ego and personal interests.....
We can do it and the talent is ripe for the picking from State, reserves and Prems....

Re: South Australian women's soccer will live on
Whilst I agree with the sentiments in this post I think people are missing the obvious. (Especially in light of the current FIFA debacle)
FFSA is not a public entity, it is funded mainly by the government but who does it report to (not the clubs irrespective of the fees)? So the only thing they need to be transparent about is where the money is going to (ie telling the government)
As for the rest of us while I do care what happens there is little I feel I can do about it as FFSA is a closed shop (as is SASI) yes I am cynical but nothing appears like it will change.
they will appoint someone have interviews (in that order too) for the rest and then employ who they want.
Selection will be closed, by invite and it will be who they want based on who they know. (as all things with FFSA)
