There's 11 teams + One team will play on a Wednesday night instead of a Sunday = 1 bye because of uneven number of teams + 1 game on a Wednesday instead of Sunday.

Byes in junior comps are not unheard of due to an uneven number of teams.

Obviously just another Adelaide City wind up.
Now, if you're lucky, you could hack through your ankle in five minutes.

Round 2 3/4/2011 10:30:00 Para Hills Knights v Adelaide City The Paddocks

Why can't they each week select one team to play mid week against the skilleroos ?

Does make some sense in what you say, although what you suggest would mean that a team would play 2 games in a week (mind you it wouldn't be that hard).

It's a joke having a bye. Should of stuck with ten team draw then add the Wednesday night games as extras.
Seriously since Dimi has left it's been one mess after another.

FFA U/13 Skilleroos 2011

Sonney Nuanphaly Salisbury Utd
Christian Verbi Adelaide City
Jordan Maricic Birkalla
Thomas Veart Para Hills
Jacob Fabian Adelaide City
Lachlan Le Para Hills
Ali Hadi Adelaide City
Nicholas Polli Adelaide City
Tom Stokes Birkalla
Patrick Munn Adelaide City
Alex Solari Adelaide Blue Eagles
Zac Waters West Adelaide
David Signore Adelaide Blue Eagles
Jared Clark Adelaide City
Kristin Konstandopoulos Adelaide Olympic
Luke Uzzell Cumberland
Liam Miller Para Hills
Charlie Deveraux Adelaide City

The squad was selected from the FFSA U12 Summer Zone Development program (E/S/W/N/Country)

Player selection was based on technical ability and took into consideration the following attributes of players.

The functional game skills:

Ø Running with the ball

Ø Striking the ball

Ø First touch

Ø 1 v 1 (attack and defence)

Other prerequisites for a talented player:

Ø Coordination and speed

Ø Game ‘cleverness’ : making the right decisions ‘intuitively’

Ø Eagerness to learn and be coachable

Ø Perseverance

From the beginning of the program and going forward every measure has been put in place to ensure a consistent approach to player development is occurring. We believe this will play a key role in bringing the necessary changes and improvement needed for Junior Development

Some of the main objectives of the Program included

• Placing development ahead of results

• Focusing on the skilful instead of the powerful

• Using mistakes as learning moments instead of players being punished

• Encouraging individual play instead of forbidding individual play

• Encouraging taking initiative/risks instead of forbidding taking initiatives/risks

• Playing out purposely instead of the long ball

• No isolated physical conditioning, all training done with ball

• Learning the game by playing the game

• Developing players understanding of 1 – 4 – 3 – 3 formation

Coaches were asked to

Be patient
Work on the basics/formation, positions
Use Repetition/demonstration/reinforcement
Focus on the positives/encouraging players to find a solution i.e. (playing out from the back)

The squad will train Twice a week and play mid week games.

A squad of 16 players will be selected later in the year to compete at the National Junior Championships in October

Great to see players listed and rewarded for their hard work, but sometimes I think that these lists cause problems. We always get people bringing up "poaching" of players, coaches looking after their own, etc.

Maybe a simple fix would be to list all the clubs that a player has been involved in. That way everyone that was involved with the players development is acknowledged and there's very little recrimination.

EDIT: Congratulations to all the players, well done. Keep practicing and never give up. Good to see some you from my STIC teams on the list.

010101....What is your question about here? the philosophy? the physical conditioning aspect? ...or an issue about the fathers being coaches or former NSL players?

...sorry but I'm not quite sure how to read/understand your question..please explain more.

Running with the ball MOST ALL PLAYERS AT THIS STAGE CAN RUN WITH THE BALL

Ø Striking the ball DOES THIS MEAN A SHOT ON GOAL OR JUST PASSING THE BALL?

Ø First touch WHAT ABOUT IT?

Ø 1 v 1 (attack and defence) DONT MAKE SENCE

Other prerequisites for a talented player:

Ø Coordination and speed & .....................

Ø Game ‘cleverness’ : making the right decisions ‘intuitively’ HOW ABOUT COACH CLEVERNESS

Ø Eagerness to learn and be coachable THEY ALL WANT THAT

Ø Perseverance

Focusing on the skilful instead of the powerful SO YOU CAN SKILFUL WHEN ON YOUR OWN BUT BEATEN IN A GAME & THATS OK?

• Encouraging individual play instead of forbidding individual play IN OTHER WORDS THE PLAYERS CAN ALL HOG THE BALL

• Encouraging taking initiative/risks instead of forbidding taking initiatives/risks AGAIN, HOGING THE BALL

Jeda, if you're asking how mush $$$, I think it's free.....

MR Black, if you are happy with the way Australian coaches have taught kids, and the type of players Aust has produced in the last 50 years, then that's your prerogative

Don't question something that you haven't a clue about..... Let's see the results in 5-10 years time ....

Will we produce a Messi or Ronaldo, probably not....... Is there now a structure and goal in place to produce technically better players then Aust is already producing??
I am certain there is now, and it's a better system then what Aust has had for the last 50 years, which was based on the English style of 'boot it' and 'run' and 'force' goals to get results, and coaches doing their 'own' thing

If some of you call individuality 'hogging', then you must hate how Flores, Broitch and Perez play......
This is what this type of programme, and SAP, are trying to produce, players that can win games with that one bit of individual briilliance, and get more people coming through the turnstiles ....... But feel free to call it 'hogging'

Keep enjoying watching Perth Glory style teams and players then ....

If we could produce players like that! OMG. Interesting though! If a young boy was to display those qualities on the pitch, he would be labelled a hog.But if a adult player was to do the same, as the video. He is labelled BRILLIANT.

FFA, FFSA, keep doing what you are doing with the Skillaroos and Sap. Encourage individual play. And to all those knockers, go to a training session of one of Development squads and see for yourself. Im sure when you see the quality of the training and the improvement of all participants, you knockers might have a change of heart.

Was interested in the comment re development of players and seeing the results in 5 - 10 years time. While I readily concede junior development is light years ahead of when I was a junior in the 1970s it was not all bad. The performance of the various national teams in the 90s may take some beating - 4th in the 92 Olympics (eliminating Holland just to make it and our best effort to date). I recall a junior team making a youth world cup final in 93 - Bosnich in goals and the game televised by SBS. Finalists in the 97 Confederation Cup - beating Mexico and Uruguay and drawing with Brazil on the way to the final. No World Cup qualification I know but it was always going to be tough against Argentina and I'm sure we all remember Iran. Not as many meaningful international games back then either (no Asian Cup qualifiers and games against Vanuatu don't quite prepare you for Argentina and Maradonna). The type of football played wasn't too shabby either and I recall talk at the time of a golden generation. I would be interested to learn how these players were developed and how it differs from today. Interestingly 8 of the 1997 Confederation Cup squad were playing in the NSL as it was then.

Sorry got that wrong - a quick look at the Wikipedia shows it was 1991 and we came 3rd - losing to the hosts Portugal in the semi. Included in that youth side was Mark Bosnich (Zeljko Kalac reserve keeper), Paul Okon,Mark Babic, Kevin Muscat, Tony Popovic and Steve Corica to name a few. A quick look through the records shows we came 4th in 1993, quarter finalists in 95, round of 16 in 97, and a decline after that. Remember SBS televising the 91 event and there was a lot of interest. The Under 17 national side made the FIFA cup final in 1999 - losing to Brazil on penalties (Aaron Goulding played in that team).
