Have there been no friendlies!

Post by adelaidepie »

Hello all,

Welcome to the 2011 preseason ummm quiet board! Seems like there has been no friendlies recently or nothing much to talk about except our spam mate with phones.

So come on, surely someone has had a friendly game recently? Hmmm Say Munno Para and Toros! Anyone else? Give us your results, comments, hmm No! Nothing?

Well if you have had a game and you would like to talk about the game or thoughts on an up and coming game heres your chance

Come on don't be shy!

toros 7-3 munno para. pretty good hit out for both sides. para up 2-1 at half time then went 3-1 up early in the second half. changes were made in the last half hr and the goals started flowing for toros. very good effort by the para girls considering two seasons ago they were playing div 5 football. another stern challenge this wk end against metro. once again thanks leigh and the toro girls for a match of good quality and played in good spirits.

Pre-season friendly games don't really mean much sometimes - or at least for res/prems (where it's common to mix up the reserves and prems players, depending on the game of course).
You will often find the team on the field at any one time bears little or no relation to what the final 'starting 11' line-up is likely to be once the season starts.
You really can't read much into the results of pre-season friendlies but Cumby combined res/prems beat Para Hills (5-1 I think), and lost in a close game with Sturt (1-2) where I dont think either team was anywhere near full strength.

Metro played SASI and lost by one with many goals scored (4-5 I reckon?).
AC were supposed to play SASI last week but canceled.

PVFC

I understand that and know that teams use this time to try out players position etc. I posted more for conversation than anything. Just start a little debate or comment but as you said most teams will try different tactics and players.

Just seems really really quiet on here now you can almost here a suck moving! lol

Munno Para played very well, couple of quick girls up front and a good keeper. Plenty of subs made, and game played in good spirits. good way to kick off the preseason for both the div 2 toros side and munno para

Is the preseason tournament over the March long weekend just U15 and U17 this year, or are prems/reserves sides playing as well? Any details?

Only juniors.

I think FFSA invited Prem teams too but they couldn't make it on those dates.

A. Olympic then had organised for Prems and Res to have a tournament on a different date because many players are away on the long weekend and SASI were going to play too. I think it was going to be between A.Olympic, Cumby, A.City and SASI, but FFSA boycotted it and didn't allow it to go on. Not sure why, but I was told FFSA refused to sanction the games and SASI could not play if FFSA didn't sanction it so it couldn't be done.

TBH nobody seems to know why FFSA didn't allow it...the rumour is that they got offended because the prem clubs didn't want to take part in the FFSA one and wanted to have their own...?

So, anyway, no tournament.

 I know what you mean.... but I think it's quite funny when pre-season results are posted how some people just get carried away and try to use the results to predict form for the upcoming season.

I wonder why no one mentioned Olympic beating SASI and then going on to smash Matro on the weekend. 7-3 I think, Olympic will definitely be The Team this season. I know this was said before but this time around they are too strong IMO for any other team. It's only preseason, but still...

You can not look at the games that olympic played on the weekend and say they are the team to beat...

Both Metro and Olympic had players missing. Of note Leppa did not play nor did Donna Cockayne and I would say alot of their reserves were given a chance to play as well..

Olympic have only picked up 3 new players this season...
Ruth Wallace
Zoe Sgargetta
and Stella Rigon...

and are struggling for numbers for their reserve side....so if anyone is interested in coming out and playing reserves we train on Wed and Fri nights at 6.30pm at Underdale High school...

In my mind Adelaide City is still a very strong side.....we will see how we go against them on the weekend.....

Retired is right in saying it's only pre-season and these games don't mean much at all. If if was the league I don't think Metro would go down 7-3 to Olympic.

I didn't say that in the league Olympic would beat Metro by 4 goals or even that the results of preseason are 100% reliable, but you gotta be blind if you don't think Olympic have the best team on paper!! At this point we can only talk about best on paper because they haven't played the league yet, but they are clear fvourites IMO. Last year they underachieved, but with Ruthie W. it's all different.

Very interesting, Cumby will be a force this year. Have recruited a couple of "star players" and can count on many young and good players. Don't know if they can actually win the league but will beat many teams, that's for sure.

Was L.Slater playing?

Ash Faul has only been out a couple of times to Olympic trainings and has not registered with the team as yet.... and she is not a new signing she was playing at Olympic before she had a full scholarship at SASI

As for the game played today......

Adelaide Olympic played Adelaide City

We played three thirds of 25mins each...

AO Prems played AC reserves in the first third.....

AO Prems Played AC Prems in the second and Third Thirds...

I was in goals so many have been different result if they had a proper goalie....

Missing players from both sides...
AC Missing Paps and Chi Chi
AO Missing Ruth Wallace, Olivia Robinson and Stella Rigon.. and of course both our goalies...:(

Final Score all up was AO 6 to AC 4

Olympic beating A.City 6-4 is definitely a sign of which team are going to be the favourites!
True, it's only preseason, but it looks like no one will be able to stop them.
Don't know if Olympic will be so dominating the whole season, but they are obviously the most impressive teams by looking at the players they have.
It also seems like Ashley is another Olympic player, which just adds more to the same.
It will be interesting to see if anyone in the PL can actually beat this team...
Maybe Metro?

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think Olympic prems put 3 (could have been 2) of their total goals scored past the city reserves side? Giving city the prem v prem win?

Olympic - best team on paper individually however big things have been said before, would it be considered a disappointing season if they don't win the league considering? And do Olympic have enough to field a reserves side? Could have a real impact when injuries pop up and the like!

Cumby to be the real dark horse this year I feel! Expecting them to take the place of fulham in the 'big' four!

No easy games at all this year!! Should be the most competitive year to date! To say I'm excited wouldn't cover it!

Serious?!?!?
Panthers to get done each week, Fulham not far behind
Cumby & Sturt competitive but well behind AO & City.
Metro the dark horse, no news coming from there, seem to be keeping low profile, top shelf defenders, excellent GK and depth in Reserves
