Must be the number of times they appear in the paper. Victoria definitely wins that hands down, must be why she won the award. Probably asked for it and received it considering that's what she did with most of her articles in the paper.

U16 should be U16 regardless. Did any of their opponents play overage players or given the opportunity to do so?

I get where you're coming from AP, but I can tell you that when junior girls play junior boys, after about the age of 11, even elite girls, it's normally very one-sided in favor of the boys-that kind of experience week-onweek doesn't help the girls develop, it's just plain demoralising. I think having the SASI girls play in the U16 comp is about them playing boys sides of comparable ability- but now with the SASI program focusing on 14-17 year olds does anyone know if they will continue in the same comp?

Agree,you have to keep things in perspective. I dont know about now,when the Matildas first started, they would play against the NSW U/15 boys side,and struggle,and that is not to be disrespectful, just how it was then.

So, just out of curiosity, who would you have them play- although again this is kind of a moot discussion as SASI is now 14-17 year olds.

To put things in perspective I seem to recall being told that WA NTC play against U14 Boys.

Im pretty sure most girls/womens institute teams do the same, i know QLD do. So i wouldnt put that down to why AU women are so ordinary. Theres many other reasons behind it considering most of the team plays Prems anyway...and they all will be this season i think

they play U/16 boys because the U/15s arent good enough,if they play older age groups,all the boys want to do is try and hit on the girls ( and vice versa ) both teams distracted from the game.

Im inclined to agree with the other guys.

It's like when you were young and played school football and there was always the odd girl, they told you "don't go easy on her - shes out there to play just like the rest of you."

If they want to play in the boys league, fine, but there should be no crazy rule exceptions made. Especially the biggest rule of the league.

I'm sure, in a perfect world they wouldn't want to play in the boys' league. And indeed, this is the last year in which the SASI girls will play in the boys' league. But where the hell else to you expect them to play? The new plan seems to put the SASI team in the Women's Premier league as of 2012, with the W-League off season players, which age-wise is comparable to the old SASI program, to play in the boys' League in 2012.

You know, it would be really nice if elite girls and women in SA had as many options as elite boys and men, but they just don't. By the logic of the argument put forward here, then the W-League players should be playing in the A-League?

24 yo olds shouldn't be playing u/15 does not equate to girls should play in the mens league.

Seems to be saying that they should play boys their own age- so then maybe the SASI girls (14-17) should be playing the SASI boys? And, by extension, that 24 year old women should be playing 24 year old men? It wasn't such a stupid conclusion.

Again, as of next year the SASI girls will play in the women's premier league and the W-League off-season players will play in the U16 boys. Where else would you have them play?
