Head of FIFA Sepp Blatter warns couples against engaging in homosexual behaviour
THE head of soccer's world governing body, Sepp Blatter, has told gay people to avoid having sex during the 2022 World Cup finals because of Qatar's tough laws against homosexuality, further fuelling anger over the decision to award the Islamic nation the rights to host the tournament.
In an interview in South Africa yesterday, Mr Blatter warned gays and lesbians should "refrain from any sexual activities" because, under Qatari law, consenting to a gay sex act can lead to a five-year jail term.
Mr Blatter's remarks caused anger around the world, The Australian reported.
Australian author and football columnist Jesse Fink declared it was time for Mr Blatter to go.
He said the soccer chief's comments smacked of double standards and discrimination.
"In your capacity as the president of FIFA, you decide in your infinite wisdom to award the biggest sports tournament in the world to a country where even consenting to a gay sex act can have an unsuspecting person sent to the slammer for five years," Fink wrote.
"That's discrimination. The same discrimination article three of FIFA's own statutes expressly forbids."
The decision to award Qatar the World Cup finals has been criticised around the world amid allegations the bidding process was tainted by corruption and vote rigging.
The extreme heat, Qatar's small population and the fact the country lacks a football culture are seen as the main reasons the country should not have been handed the hosting rights.

Re: Sepp Blatter warns couples against homosexual behaviour
fantastic. I guess I'm going to get tied up in this thread explaining morals again
As for Blatter, it is not his place to tell couples what to/ not to do. I've said this many a time, if this was a problem, Qatar should not have been selected in the first place. Re-vote in my opinion. Give it to the US and be done with it!

I think this statement will do more to end the reign of Blatter and co than anything else that has happened.
Upsetting the Gay community has been the end of many a political career around the world and if they get angry with Blatter it will be the end of him too.
Send a copy of this article to any gays you know.

Anyways, 5 years for homosexual activities in a muslim country is like getting 5 months for a Martin Bryant type multiple murder act in Australia, very very lenient. Gays should be happy to go to Qatar, it dont get much better than that in the middle east

In all seriousness though, who is Sepp Blatter to change the laws of a nation??? FIFA is a sporting organisation, not the supreme ruler of the world ffs, get over it
You should know, that if in Qatar, you cannot engage in homosexual acts, you cannot act in a drunken disorderly state, you cannot have sex in a public place etc etc If you dont like their rules, dont go. I love how some people get upset all because the rules in another nation arent the same as in the one they reside in. Its always the same idiots from the same countries. If you dont like their rules, dont go to their country, how simple is that???
