Sydney FC women

Post by Red-4-Life »

Well they are looking the goods so far to say the least. A 4-2 win in Brisbane last week, followed by a 4-1 win in Melbourne on the weekend. They have a strong squad that looks something like:

Dimi Poulos – Goalkeeper
Teresa Polias – Midfield
Danielle Brogan – Defender
Alesha Clifford – Defender
Alanna Kennedy – Defender
Servet Uzunlar – Midfield
Heather Garriock (captain) – Midfield
Renee Rollason – Striker
Caitlin Foord – Striker
Kylie Ledbrook – Midfield
Lydia Vandenbergh
Catherine Canulli – Forward
Nicole Bolger – Midfield
Teigan Allen – Defender
Linda O’Neill – Midfield
Kyah Simon – Striker
Leena Khamis – Striker
Erin Herd - Goalkeeper

Can they be beaten???

yes,but not with the current structure. In my opinion for what it's worth, the coach needs to be encouraged to take more risks with his formations,be prepared to change things earlier when they are not working. I would look at playing with a sweeper system to start with ( 4-4-2 ). We just need to tighten the defense up a little bit, some of the goals we have conceded in past weeks, because our back 4 have been caught flatfooted with hand in air appealing for offside = when you are a defender, you do not stop and put your hand in the air and appeal for offside.
This formation may even restrict the amount of room the opposition will have to work with in midfield, will tighten things up at the back, still be able to create some attacking opportunities. I would try Donna Cockayne as a wide right side player, she is good at both playing wide taking players on down the line and cutting inside as well from that side.
So many times last week, one of our central midfielders really started to take the game on,made some great runs, had no options out wide to pass to - wide right player couldnt keep up,and he has to bring in Quigley ( providing she has earnt her recall).
If you see it isnt working in certain parts of the field, then you change it a little bit, dont wait until we are 2 or 3 goals down. If we use a flat back 4 then we need to have at least two of them with pace,or we will get crucified.
Any team is beatable, but you have to go at them immediately, not when they have settled,it's too late then, put pressure on them and they will make mistakes. Enough from me and my "keyboard coach" opinion

We did attack quite a bit last week in the first 20 minutes,if we had a decent left footer put her on the left and Cockayne on the right.
As for Quigley,I only know her from her Para Hills days, and I did see Racheal play a game in the Premier League this year - she has more to offer then what we are seeing at the moment, I hope she realises that soon.

Beaten! Sydney 1-0 up for a majority of the game. Tara Andrews comes on for Newcastle and scores a late brace. Jets win 2-1
