think this puts to rest the issue of Sat. teams v Sun teams.

clean sweep in the cups and champion of champion div 1 title to Downs.

no doubt there r some quality sat teams but the depth has been, is currently and will continue to be stronger on sunday's even with sat. divisions growing.

just have to look at the history - still only 1 ever Sat. Div. team has ever won a cup in the A's and 2 in the B's I think in all the 40 odd years.

they r the facts and cannot be disputed.

I suppose the biggest disapointment is that you are The Downs Soccer Club Chairman. I think you let Allan Mottram and the Downs First team down, saying the crap you do.

No, no...comeback kid I can say as a 1st team player the club chairman is anything but a disappointent to us, more of an avid spokesperson to tools like u.

u are obviously associated with "parafield who", who where all biggin it up with a couple of weeks to go calling us chokers and the like...he's just rammin back down your throat.

Keep em comin marrooned!!

Keepinitreal, where do I start!!! Yes Im involved with Gardens but I played all my Juniors at the Downs and I have great mates who play, coach and support the Downs. We had 2 great games this year with heaps of Rivalry. You won the league thats great and Champion of Champions good on you. The season is over time to move on yet everytime I look on here theres a slur to the Gardens. WHY? 2 Great competitive clubs but leave it on the park, sure Gardens gave banter to the Downs DURING THE SEASON and Id also like to add it wasnt our Chairman. I think its great all the banter but dont get carried away!!

I think its funny how as Parafield won nothing this year, it all like calm, well down to the downs, season is over, blah blah blah!

It always a differet story when the shoe is on the other foot. Like when you won it is few years ago. I remember sitting at hindmarsh stadium watching our reserves in the semi finals, after parafield had just won the leauge, and all the crap that we got from your mob of supportrs pointing to the "champion" slogan on your cheap shirts you were wearing was not forgoten at all.

So you can sit there, and read oll the stuff that we want to say to you.

at the end of the day........

Saturday competitions have only been around for about 20 of those years and I would estimate that their clubs make up about 30% of the total number, so the odds are against them. No dount that Sunday has the depth though so we will have to agree to partially disagree on this one.

PS Good job this year, Farm. (One of my ex clubs.)

well said robbie. I think the sat league can only improve in the coming years. I heard from a pretty reliable source that Villa are moving over to the Sat league and given the Wanderers recent exploits the Sat div 1 will soon have the depth. I wonder if the cup final were to be played on a saturday that it would alter the result?

The Saturday League is better known for it's experience verteran players who have been there and done that, BOSA is one of those clubs. Unfortunately with players not getting paid in Sat Divs it becomes very hard to attract the younger lads who are interested in a few bucks or free drinks.

I think both leagues have thier pro's and con's and I hope both can improve as it will only make the respective leagues better and the cup stronger.

I think you will find most players prefer to play in front of a crowd on sundays rather than $$$ or free drinks.
i think St Peters and Bosa support bases are low and its a credit to them that they perform so well.

Fair enough for the shirts, I was just trying to say let us have our moment as you guys did back then.

As for the reserves, what has parafield reserves won over the past few years???? um.... not much, cup or leauge.

Agreed marooned in regards to crowds but as our club(Jets) switched over from the Sunday league to the Saturday league i can say personally that as a player i much prefer the Saturdays as after playing on Saturdays we can afford to have a few beers on Saturday night and enjoy our Sundays with our familys or going to watch one of the Sunday games as i don't think as many people go to federation games as they did in the past and in respect to the standard i think it is very minimal but that's obviously always going to be disputed depending on what league you are in. Congratulations to the downs as they have always have had a great crowd and we overdue the 1st division title.

Sunday players are much harder the Saturday players. They can party hard on a Saturday night and play football on the Sunday. It takes an inordinate amount of concentration to play skillfull soccer with a thumpin hangover and at the same time trying to subdue the dry reeching.

Actually a significant contrast can be made between Saturday and Sunday clubs. Saturday teams are all about the player, Sunday are more about the community. Hence the larger Sunday crowds. The players and their families and friends all enjoy a Sunday at the football.

a player, but seems to be in the know. Surely they will put Villa in div 2 if the move comes off. A precedent was set with the Wanderers last year. He seems to think you will be starting in div 3.

Saturday Div 3 is for clubs with no reserve teams, I presume that would still be the case next season. So they would go into Div 2.

I think one diiference stands out between clubs from Sunday Div 1 and 2 and there Saturday counterparts is that many of the Sunday teams have a well established junior club from under 6's thru to under 16's. These junior teams feed many players into the Senior sides.
Another obvious difference is that Sunday Amateurs are not in competition with "Federation" teams or work commitments for supporters.
As for the Downs paying players, how do you all think teams like Salisbury Inter had such a great runs in the past. The Downs have probably moved up and down between Division 2 and Division 1 more times than most largely due to other, more financial clubs luring away their better players. Players either follow the dollars, senior Coaches or their mates around. Luckily the Downs has all three areas stitched up. A likeable, skillful Coach, a great bunch of lads who will call you mate and a successful Club off the park.
Cheers Motts, Mates and Mulah!!
