2010 FIFA World Cup Golden Douche Award

Post by Dad's Army »

This actually is from another forum
Jacque Miof wrote:2010 FIFA World Cup Golden Douche Award

well, we've got the golden ball, golden boot, and golden glove awards...

so i figure, after all of the diving, cheating, dirty play, and general misconduct we've seen over the past month, why not an award for biggest douche of the tournament?

nominate one player...give a brief statement of your case...and after the first ten names are submitted, i'll turn it into a poll.

please base it on behavior and actions in this tournament, not on your general dislike for any particular player or past incidents that happened outside this world cup...obviously ridiculous suggestions will not be included in the poll.

i'll go first...

i nominate mark van bommel of the netherlands, for his overall dirty play and general cuntishness. i've never seen someone attempt to hand out so many metatarsal injuries in such a short space of time, and get away with it so often...almost every challenge he made included a deliberate stomp at the opposing player's foot.

he's also demonstrated that he's not afraid to take a dive and then go whining to the referee, asking that a card be given against someone else.

who would you nominate?

let the hating begin. :D

Van Bommel was a disgrace should have copped red in the semi-final.

Sooky Anelka, for obvious behavioural reasons.

ps, Bodo. should be a poll too on worst ref. If there was, I nominate the assistant ref in the Engerland/Germania game

Agree with Van Bommel, can't believe how many freekicks he got away with by not being booked.

For one decision? The linesman was where he was supposed to have been at the time and he can't call it if he didn't see it.

Can I nominate Craig Foster? Ok, he didnt play, but the way he talks you think he would be good enough as central midfielder for Barcelona and Spain and currently be the central figure in a bidding war between Man United and Real Madrid as player-manager.

He is so biased towards Barca and Spain, thinks all teams should play that way, but he forgets not all teams have the players.

Aah, but they would have if Fozz was the coach

I want to throw Maicon in at #11 for diving and then going off at the ref for not getting a free kick and the player not getting booked.

Also the whole Brazil and Portugal teams for putting on one of the most boring games ever in which I hoped it would be the best ever.

Far too often do you see strikers get on the end of good build up play to tap the ball in the net and run off like they have just saved the world from extinction rather than thanking the player whose hard work created the goal in the first place. Villa and Klose where both blessed with being in a side with a number of hard working creative midfield options however after scoring almost all of their goals ran off and celebrated to the crowd instead of appreciating the hard work done before hand.

Couldn't agree more. Its terrible that after brilliant interplay and team buildup, the player who has one touch (quite often a tap in) thinks they have the right to run away on their own and take the glory for themselves. Theres nothing better than seeing a striker running straight to his team-mates to celebrate after a goal such as this. Shows real class. Of course if its a wonderful individual goal then by all means, celebrate however you wish.

Hahaha it's great that you put them in and I agree...but if you're going to put Rooney and Ronaldo, you pretty much have to put Messi in as well...there is no way he lived up to his hype

Obviously it's relative, he didn't really play to his full potential. Ronaldo for me played well with Portugal the only thing is he was very isolated and didn't really have anyone else to work with when he did have the ball. Messi was the same except Messi was coming off a 40 goal season and he (arguably) has better quality players around him...also he had more opportunities than Ronaldo to score, but didn't. By his standards, he was poor.

Right on everyone, re tap-in strikers not acknowledging the provider who created the goal. Can't stand those exhibitionists..

At family BBQ n picnic games we call those tap-ins "grandma goals"... I've literally seen matriarch grannies join in these social games and score from tap-ins...

Not baiting at all. I'm a passionate Australian Football fan, and a Leeds United fan. Kewell is probably my favourite player ever.

Doesn't mean I agree with everything he does. The way he carried on after the game, and acted towards the media in general was embarressing.
