Fred Agius

Post by lefty »

Parafield Gardens are delighted that Fredie has been registered to play in the SAASL. Having waited 3 weeks to be registered he played his first game last week & it was fantastic to have him in our changeroom where his Fury photo dons the whiteboard & no doubt the boys enjoyed every moment too.

For what ever reasons Fredie was not happy at Adelaide City & said that he would like to play at Gardens for the rest of the season (if he could) we said we'll see what we can do. Fredie has many friends & family at the Gardens and just wanted to enjoy the club (which he does) & his soccer which is what Amateurs is all about.

We can assure everyone that whatever boxes had to be ticked to make it happen in the correct manner they were. We applaud the SAASL & Adelaide City in the way they dealt with it both professionally & diligently.

We will enjoy having Fredie at the Gardens we know he and his family certainly will. Fredie will be in many ways a huge benefit to our club & league. Obviously he can certainly play at a higher level but I think people are more & more realising the standard of soccer & club environments in the Sunday Premier league are quite good. There will be plenty of more players who will do the same in future as is already happening & who knows Fredie might think the soccer standard & club is that good and want to play another season

GO U GARDENS :!: :!: :D

Good on Gardens for picking up Freddy.
Should inspire the legions of Gardens juniors to want to play for the seniors---but is there still room for home grown talent ?

very good value for a marquee player, :) well done on the signing, good luck for the season.
I hope it helps to encourage more indigenous players - there were a couple of brothers who played for one of the Elizabeth teams many years ago,who were quite handy.

Was that the Scott brothers (Grant I think) also played for Grange Lion at one stage ?

Yes ! thanks again Swanny, the other one was Jeff ( Geoff ? ) Our coach nicknamed Jeff the "ghost" was very good at sneaking in behind the defense and you would always think "where the hell did he come from ? " was lightning fast, unlike his brother, who wasnt.

Geoff it was - won the SAASL B&F for Division 3 in 1987 and 1989.

His brother's name was Glen - played sweeper back then and in my opinion, was more skilfull than Geoff.

With Wanganeen(& son) & Agius playing at the club we are certainly in a position to get that message out there & encoarage more indigenous players.
