can't doubt his passion and he does offer some good insight but how many times, when he is asked a simple question, does he just go on and on and on.....

can't help but feel sorry for Les Murray at times

He is an 'expert' in the office, he has never coached a team but is always criticising coaches for their selections and coaching methods.

The worst for me would have to have been when he said that the players could not be blamed for the loss against Germany and that it was ALL Pim's fault.

I am all for controversial commentators however it has to said that this guy is just a t0sser.

Over the last year, I've grown less and less fond of him to the point that I can't stand to listen to a single word he says.

He's constantly contradicting himself, expects all teams to play a certain style of football (the Barcelona style; i.e. the style that gets him off), then claims all teams should play their national style, then criticises teams when they don't, but praises them when they don't if it pays off (i.e. New Zealand "not playing the New Zealand way, and that's a good thing.").

For someone who's paid to be an analyst, he can't even do that. He doesn't explain or break down anything, and it seems like he just expects everyone to understand what he's talking about. Pretty poor for someone who wants football in the country to progress when he won't explain his arguments to those at home who don't know the first thing about the game and watch these shows (of which there are many around the World Cup).
If you're going to say that a certain tactic or formation is bad, or talk about a certain "nation's style" of play, you should probably explain to the viewers what that actually is, instead of rambling.

His articles for News Ltd are regurgitated nonsense and just another platform for him to vent that things aren't going the way he wants.

He has no experience at the level he's criticising (having never coached anything outside of a novelty TV show on SBS), and his cosy desk job is unjustified. However...

This pretty much says it all.

The way the players themselves were performing that night? Yes. Absolutely.

What "tactic" could possibly fix a team that can't even string two passes together?

As Paul Wade said last night (though I haven't got the wording right), "There are 11 players on the pitch that are paid $10-100,000 a week to play football. If they can't perform, what hope does the coach have?"

"Fozz" is purely protecting the players, as he's played himself and probably didn't like receiving criticism then, and putting it all on the coach is the easy way out, just as Harry and Josh are right now because they (justifiably) didn't get to play against Germany.

Coaches are condemned if they don't win, while players have done nothing wrong, and if the team wins, the players get all the praise, and the coach is ignored entirely. They can't win with that... stain on the football society that is somehow considered a "Professor" of football.

End of rant.

Generally, +1. It's the contradictions (from minute to minute) that have been the last straw from me - and going from some possible sensible comment to complete and utter stupidity in the space of seconds.

I don't think Kewell was that harsh on Verbeek - sure, he said he disagreed with a couple of things, but he was still (imo) professional in saying that it's the coach's decisions and that they could've done it, but were screwed over by decisions (and luck). Also, I think it shows up SBS fishing for splits in the camp post-Germany to be shown up for what it was: a bullshit witch-hunt.

+1 on what Paul Wade said last night, too.

In all fairness, I haven't actually seen what Josh or Harry said about Pim. I've only read that they, "lashed out and blasted Pim's tactics." For all I know, it was all journalistic fluff.

But what I said about them being justifiably left out of the squad still stands. Harry for the sole reason that he should be kept for the Ghana game, because coming back from injury would leave him ridiculously high risk against physical defences like Germany and Serbia. Leave Josh out just because he's not at that level and isn't a ball playing striker, which is what we need against a team like Germany.

I'm happy to criticise some of the tactical decisions, but not the squad selection (apart from perhaps Moore out for Beauchamp). Most of the goals were conceded from amateur defensive errors, not tactical faults. That and Germany's best performance in any group stage game (their form dropped drastically for the other two matches).

Zelic should have a crack at coaching.

Played in a CL, Played in a europa league final, won a Bundesliga.

He's way better than anyone else we've got.

His "analysis" of matches is on the money where as Fozzie is nothing more than a "whiney biatch" let alone chief football analyst. I find even Zdrilic has more of a clue than Fozzie when "analysing" matches.

Was funny seeing him so chuffed last night at England's capitulation - couldn't wipe the grin of his face.

And who could forget Fozzie v Postecoglou? Socceroo's should appoint Ange as next coach, and SBS let Fozzie off his leash - would be more entertaining than most of the matches at the WC!

Yeah, it was pretty much journalistic fluff to say they "lashed out and blasted Pim...". Kewell's always been a good professional - and the same this time. He said he didn't agree with some of it v Germany, but the rest was right, and it's the coach's choice after all. The article's still up on the Advertiser website AFAIK.
Kewell said that too; he was disappointed not to get on, but the red card (to Cahill) killed his chances, not Pim.

+1 on how the goals were conceded. Also, Germany just wapped England with 11 men with a very similar performance, against a team also laid out in a 4-4-2. Surprise, Oezil had space between the defence and midfield. Obviously, Capello didn't watch the Aus v Ger match.

Zelic has been an absolute joy to watch on SBS Two. He's calm and collected, explains all his points and seems to be well prepared (even with video pointers). If he could translate his knowledge from a panel to a coaching environment, and be able to develop his own style, I'd love to see how he goes.

Mate, seriously ok he might not be an expert as you say, but he's a lot more qualified than you are (given he played for Australia). I'm sure you've criticised coaches for their tactics before. If he's biased so be it, he's very passionate about he's football which I think is good, I met him once, very good bloke, even took a photo FOR my mates and I...not WITH us but for us, very down to earth guy.

So Fozzy you got it wrong again, surprise surprise. It will be an all south American semi finals will it? As someone put before I think you have some good pointsto make, but for fark sake take off the one eyed blinkers and treat all countries the same not be a 'Les i'm all for the beautiful football countries who roll around like they are dead from the fart of a passing player' type. Be yourself but be fair then and only then people will 100% listen to your comments and not think that you are nothing more than a 1 eyed prat who thinks their own feet don't smell.
