Africa versus Asia

Post by vertu1 »

only 1 out of 6 African teams will go through to the last 16
2 of 4 Asian teams will go through

i think Asia deserve the extra half a spot and have 5 full spots next time
Africa can lose a half a spot and play Oceania
or throw Oceania in the coca cola conference with the U.S.A etc

the African teams have been very very poor, odd considering how many players they now have in the big Euro comps

most african teams have lacked the passion of previous years, remember cameroon in 1990 and roger milla?
where is that now? i think the big players want there holiday...

asian side fight for the whole game and it shows, plus the fitness side of things helps them as well..

I was saying the exact opposite after the last world cup. No Asian team made it into the 2nd round, and all bar one finished bottom of their group. Ghana made the 2nd round, while 3 other African teams finished 3rd in their group.

To be fair, Sth America should probably get another spot (5 or 5.5), as they are looking at 4 or 5 out of 5 into the next round!

I doubt Bahrain (5th in Asia) would have done any better than New Zealand (who beat them in the playoff) or Algeria (worst African team) for example.

Putting Oceania in the North/Central America conf sounds good - perhaps top 2 from the pacific join in with the last round.
That's it!

It's fine the way it is now. Oceania through Asia, and No more and no less places to all of the confederations.

When was the last time Europe only had three representatives in the quarterfinals?
Is this the first?

The winds of change.

When you look statistically at the last three world cups, where two have been held outside Europe, the results as far as group points obtained are as follows.

2002 - in Asia - points averages were as follows – (number of teams from each region in brackets)
Europe 64 from 15 = average 4.25 points
Americas - 37 from 8 = average 4.6
Africa 15 from 5 - average 3
Asia 14 from 4 average 3.5

2006 WC - in Europe
Europe 79 from 14 = average 5.7 points
Americas - 31 from 8 = average 3.9
Africa 12 from 5 - average 2.4
Asia 10 from 5 average 2.0

2010 WC - in Africa
Europe 55 from 13 = average 4.23 points
Americas - 44 from 8 = average 5.5
Africa 14 from 6 - average 2.3
Asia 17 from 5 average 3.4

Conclusions -
American teams are better than European teams - they perform better in neutral locations.
African teams are overrated

technically, Australia was part of Asia by the time the world cup rolled around, so one did make it through

Africa still produces many more superior players than Asia..many many more ..and will always be a goldmine for the world biggest clubs looking to strengthen their squads with players that have an X-factor

Asia at best produces disciplined work horses...but these kinds of players have little value in Europe as they have plenty of those already..and mature super clubs know how to organize a team unlike the faction fractured African national teams

the world's eyes are on the African cup of nations because of such players whereas outside of Asia, nobody cares about the Asian cup

this is the reality
