Apparently tickets are basically sold out, but people are not showing up. Maybe some logistic troubles, hard to get to stadium on time and such?t9rres wrote:worrying considering that this is supposed to be the biggest football event in the world and can't even sell out a stadiumcoachingsoccer wrote:+ many empty seats in the stadiums during games

Re: Things that peeve me about the world cup
There's definately been a lack of goals, as well as a lack of attacking prowess really, apart from the South Africa v Mexico game and the Germany v Australia game, this world cup has lacked a lot of creativity and attacking football. I suppose no one wants to lose the first group game which might account for cautious starts, hopefully it opens up a bit in the 2nd round of group games as teams realise they desperately need points.

You mean like the complete lack of public transport - which is pretty much essential for tourists?coachingsoccer wrote:Apparently tickets are basically sold out, but people are not showing up. Nothing wrong with the Vuvuzelas, nothing wrong with the Jabulani, and nothing wrong with not wanting to lose your first gamereflex wrote:Horns, jabulani ball, lack of goals,....
Generation Z or whatever you are need to start appreciating all facets of the game, not just the ball hitting the back of the net. My father always used to tell me as i was growing up that "its not just about the ball hitting the back of the net, but more how the ball got to be there". You need to appreciate the game as a whole and not just the final outcome because more times than not, the final outcome is a product of some team building stuff my friend

Time for some righteous indignation
Re: Things that peeve me about the world cup
Your father is a wise man and 100% correct. We have been inundated with the rubbish English long ball hard nut kick and hope game in this country. All speed, little skill and lots of goals... it is what the public want unfortunately. A lot of people bag Spanish, Italian and South American football but if you truly appreciate the game for the skill, the grace they play at is a wonder to watch.COLOSSUS wrote:Nothing wrong with the Vuvuzelas, nothing wrong with the Jabulani, and nothing wrong with not wanting to lose your first gamereflex wrote:Horns, jabulani ball, lack of goals,....

Re: Things that peeve me about the world cup
I have enjoyed many games where the result was 0-0.
They are sometimes a lot more entertaining than a game with a high scoreline, because the skill level can be much higher.

Re: Things that peeve me about the world cup
You're right in that football is not only about the ball hitting the back of the net, but regardless of goals the standard is pretty poor. And even when you play a patient, building game you still have to hit a long flighted pass at times, too many times the move is breaking down there. This WC hasn't been about goals OR good buildup play.COLOSSUS wrote:Nothing wrong with the Vuvuzelas, nothing wrong with the Jabulani, and nothing wrong with not wanting to lose your first gamereflex wrote:Horns, jabulani ball, lack of goals,....

Mexico 1st half, Germany, Leo Messi. That's about the best of the cup so far. So many teams have underwhelmed. Still, it's only the first round etc etc...
Re: Things that peeve me about the world cup
You need to stop watching AFL my friend. Yes, the aim of the game is to score, but you arent going to score by just taking shots from everywhere without having a plan, a style, to suit your team, its that simple jock. Getting the ball in the net requires many things to happen, and they just dont happen by kicking a ball long and hoping for the best all because you want to see goals Learn the game buddy before making silly commentsJock wrote:Are you joking? lol, can't celebrate the journey the ball took to get to the back of the net if it never gets there...COLOSSUS wrote:Nothing wrong with the Vuvuzelas, nothing wrong with the Jabulani, and nothing wrong with not wanting to lose your first gamereflex wrote:Horns, jabulani ball, lack of goals,....

the new ball is pathetic, you can't play good football with it
they should change the balls for the next round of matches to shame the manufacturers so they never put such shit out on the pitch ever again
Re: Things that peeve me about the world cup
See the part that i have highlighted, that is exactly the whole point here. Its forst round and NO TEAM wants to lose its 1st game for obvious reasons. I have actually enjoyed most games, to see a North Korea frustrate Brazil for an hour was simply brilliant from where i sit, and the game needs as much as that as it does the flair of individuals that you will see as the tournament warms up. Some of you people expect to see miracles because its a World Cup??? Come on guys, welcome to the real world, you have the same players playing in the World Cup as you do with the ones you see on TV every other weekend add a few Amateurs. Dont expect to see the open style of Football you see in the EPL every weekend, because it just doesnt happen, this is World Cup Football and its measured Football where every mistake could cost you the chance of holding the up the Cup or for others progressing to the next stage. Theres a reason why England cant perform to her potential in these tournaments and its something to do with trying to play the game her players are used to. It just doesnt happen at this level, thats the truth of it all. Enjoy the World Cup ffs, it only comes around once every 4 yearsOld Gregg wrote:You're right in that football is not only about the ball hitting the back of the net, but regardless of goals the standard is pretty poor. Re: Things that peeve me about the world cup
Your an idiot, nothing wrong woth the new ball, ask the Germans, they found it easy to use, so to did the Italians, the Paraguayans, the Brazilians, the South Africans and the list goes on and on. These guys are professionals and all balls are round, if you cant handle it, go and play another sport. All teams play with the same ball, and there have been no players up until now who have after a game blamed anything on the ball, now grow up seriouslyLoppermann wrote:lol, can't celebrate the journey the ball took to get to the back of the net if it never gets there...COLOSSUS wrote:Nothing wrong with the Vuvuzelas, nothing wrong with the Jabulani, and nothing wrong with not wanting to lose your first gamereflex wrote:Horns, jabulani ball, lack of goals,....
