Let's imagine that you were eligible to play for 2 countries. The first country tells you that you won't get picked for them, then later on the second country says we'll play you.

Obviously, playing at an international level is the pinnacle, so you decide to play for the 2nd, since the 1st doesn't want you.

Then the 2nd country can't actually pick you, due to visa trouble.

Does that mean that the 1st shouldn't pick up, if they have the ability and the desire to?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sasa play in the first friendly after Pim leaves.

he said he wants to play for another country... once a player says that hes not gonna get a call up unless he comes out and publically says he made a mistake and has changed his mind. its a matter of principle.

Ognenovski made up his mind to accept an invitation from Macedonia coach Srecko Katanec after being continually overlooked by Verbeek last year; when the Socceroos boss eventually made inquiries before the opening Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia in late January the horse had bolted.

"I was never spoken about by Pim until the Indonesia game," Ognenovski said. "I'd played in the A-League for a while, a lot of people thought I was doing OK, but I was never asked to a camp, no one had contacted me.

"Macedonia had kept tabs on me, they'd watched our [Adelaide] games in the Asian Champions League and when they invited me into this camp it wasn't hard to say yes. Pim did try and get in touch at the last minute but by then my mind was made up. If he'd spoken to me even a few weeks earlier, my decision might have been different, who knows?"

This tells me he ONLY decided to pledge for Macedonia AFTER being snubbed.

1. Jimara is right - we gotta get the name politically correct as it is known @ the U.N. - it's F.Y.R.O.M (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia)

2. Jimara, FYROM isn't Sasa's country. I bet he might even have been born here. It's the place of his heritage.

3. We're now all whistling in the wind. The 23 has to come from the prelim. list of 31. It's too late. Verbeek farrkd up man-managing this debacle.

Now farrk off to the Morocco Under 20s, Mr Boring

OK, OK. Stop shouting Lopperman. My ears hurt.

Anyhow, Sasa for OZ in June is too late now.

And by the way it's still F.Y.R.O.M, not just the word "Macedonia" - get it right when you next SHOUT

If I can't play for Australia, but Liechtenstein came calling, I'd be signing in a flash.. Plenty of Brazilians go play for other countries. Doesn't mean they don't want to play for Brazil, just that they have a better chance with Qatar etc.

Take some cricketers for example. John Davison & Dirk Nannes both went to o/s countries to get their chances. Dirk came back to Australia.

Get this last paragraph in a column by Sebastian Hassett in a Fairfax publication:

"Asked whether he considered Sasa Ognenovski, an overwhelming public favourite for the role (centre-back) after starring in the Korean league, Verbeek was dismissive. "No never", he said "Because we have better players".

Vindictive? Dismissive of the public's opinion? All of the above?

What do you forumite inglorious basterds think?

And ps, Jimara, don't worry about the race thing. Was Sasa taking the mickey?
I reckon his blood would run red like yours and all the rest of us (pun intended).
