Playing Soccer on Mother's Day
I am interested in your opinions. Should we or shouldn't we play a cup round on this particular day? Playing for a Saturday league side, it is a nightmare at the best of times to play on a sunday, but especially on Mother's Day sunday. It's supposed to be a day to spend with the family, keep the wife happy on her special day and have a bit of fun with the kids, not booting up to play a cup tie. We personally have five to six members in our side that are fathers for the first time... sure their wives are looking forward to them going to play at Parafield Gardens instead What do you think... I say "happy wife, happy life"

I agree that there shouldn't be any games on the Sunday. It does make it hard to catch up with family. If you don't play, you let the team down. If you don't go to Mothers Day, you let the family down.
P.S. How you been? Haven't seen you for ages!

Most mothers days my mother in law, Mum and my wife (mother of my two kids) come to soccer and we get to spend time together.

Totally agree mate, can't be in 2 places at once and those 1st time mothers will never let the 1st time fathers forget it if they are not there for the 1st or 2nd one for that matter!5cougarsthanx wrote:I am interested in your opinions. Re: Playing Soccer on Mother's Day
Are you guys serious? The world should stop for mother's day? C'mon, if you have a great relationship with your mother (partner) etc, it shouldnt matter - surely you can "compromise" - see her before/after game or have her at the game and shout her lunch or something.
Next we'll be having players ask for postponements due to it being their name day.

At the Downs we (the players) often would hand out flowers on Mothers Day...except for the mothers we used to play againstMATTY6 wrote:Most mothers days my mother in law, Mum and my wife (mother of my two kids) come to soccer and we get to spend time together.

Agree! cook or take her out for dinner that night! or breakfast that morning. Soccer doesn't have to take up the whole day...

Re: Playing Soccer on Mother's Day
Understand what your saying Bomber, but I am not so much refering to seeing my mum on Mothers Day, but keeping my wife and the kids happy... I could quite easily just toughen the f**k up and play and not give two squats about what my family is doing on Mother's day, but I'll have a divorce to deal with when I get home...Fathers Day, Name day is different... Mothers Day, involves the other half.Bomber wrote:Are you guys serious? The world should stop for mother's day? Fair enough, I just wonder what reaction you'd get from your coach and team mates if you said "sorry, cant come, its Mothers day".

Re: Playing Soccer on Mother's Day
Exactly why I am asking for opinions... we may have a few players in this situation... have all had little ones in the last year... First Mothers Day for some... expectations from wives are big.Bomber wrote:5cougarsthanx wrote:Understand what your saying Bomber, but I am not so much refering to seeing my mum on Mothers Day, but keeping my wife and the kids happy... Say g'day to him from me (he'd remember me as "Export"). He used to laugh when Charlie Kostic from Eagles days would have mother's day off - oh the irony!5cougarsthanx wrote:

Some mothers need to get a grip on reality.
It's an invention of Hallmark greeting cards and the big department stores. Breakfast in bed, a bunch of flowers and a peck on the cheek should be quite sufficient

Re: Playing Soccer on Mother's Day
To be honest I have a couple of brothers and a sister one who is part of a Div 1 club aswell as myself one who works on the day and the other who is a teenager and my mam always enjoys mothers day as we all make an effort to see her, that should be all that matters.
I'm sure plenty of people out there who don't have a mother that would be keen on watching football on Mothers Day but what is 90 minutes in a 24 hour day?

My first father's day landed on my birthday. My missus decided it was a better idea to go and watch her sister ride a horse all day.
