Florina v Downs

Post by marooned »

Certainly hope that Florina supply a decent ref for the reserves game this week. Louie was possibly the most bias ref we have come across in many years. Yes more bias than Eddie from the Vale. If no others are available I will offer my services so the game at least will be decided on the best team rather than what was on offer last year.

I hear the local Messenger are going to do write ups each week on Sunday Premier League games & will be down to watch Florina vs Downs I told them the game of the round will be at Gardens Vs Vale  .

Good luck to both teams should be a big game down at Florina no doubt Bert will be copping an earful.

Eddie isnt bias......he is just really bad, he calls bad decions both ways  But cant knock him for trying, with out him we would have no game....

mind games? No way a finely tuned team like Florina could never be affected by mind games. Just stating the obvious. Louie, though a teally nice bloke, couldnt pick the trifecta in a three horse race. Expecting a huge crowd and it makes a ground marshalls job near impossible when bad if not bias calls are made to change a game. As a qualified ref myself to see a ref award a penalty and stand in the centre circle when it is taken is not good. A ref should never be the centre of attention.

And yes Eddie does call it bad for both teams and he too is a great clubman and a genuinely nice bloke but as a ref he is a shocker.

When the Farm reserves travelled to Florina last year we had a shorter stocky bald fella with a goatee (apologies if that offends the guy) but he was fantastic and probably one of the fairest referees we had all year. The game was controlled well and all decisions were dealt with fairly. Not sure if its the same bloke you are talking about marooned but if it is perhaps have a talk with him before the game.

Not the same guy outlaw and talking to refs before the game is not my cup of tea other than to pay them. Had a chat to many Florina heirachy after the game last year and Im sure they were made aware of our concerns and the problem will be rectified. When all is said and done I can think of no better blokes to have a beer and a chat to. All geniune football lovers.

By the way Canonball is seven foot two.

He is also well liked by all Downs players and supporters and would be a perfect candidate to ref the game if he is not injured, he gets into a lot of fights on sat nights.

What a start to the season Downs VS Florina (Vale Vs Gardens also)
We have played both teams in Pre Season. Both Impressive and certainly have match winners (Several) its going to come down to the mental side of things and frustration will play a part. Bert playing against his old club will be interesting, Morrisson, Mahlia were very impressive against us and Cartwright (did he sign?) will be huge, Radford gets alot of pressure taken off him with these signings and also played well against us (In fact it was hard to spot a bad player). Florina were a very impressive team BUT in my opinion and on show for all to see and hear get frustrated easilly and at times with no need but when they hold it together Fuda, Brooks, Manca, Westervelt, Lucky, Elliott man what options they have also.

Big crowd, should be a high quality game. Very interested to hear the outcome.

Hey LRO, you forgot to mention the pressure from the sidelines will have an impact in the Downs v Florina game. With Bert sporting different colours, the banter will be aimed square on at several players. Can't wait for the season opener :D

If hoops make one look fat and stripes make you look taller then Bert will look about 9' 2".

yet 4 goals was scored and you couldn't bag one. while farm visited us at under down and pumped us 4-1.
looks like the better team didn't harp on about refs and moan and groan and made sure 18 league games won them the league not one.

I hear he didn't play and that he might not be playing for the Downs anymore - can anyone from the Downs confirm this?

yeah Louie was in charge of the ressies game and was better than previous times but still wasnt fond on blowing for fouls that should have been received by both teams. He even gave a correct call with a penalty FOR the downs :o all up was a tough game and played in good spirits. I had my work cut out for me with the original rubberman threatening to score past me 8)

Can anyone from Florina tell me what happened to Reynolds shoulder??? i think it was his shoulder anyway

Also A.Malia played unless there is another Parisi going around

i watched the florina / downs game yesterday and i will be supprised to get another game like it this year
intense, fast, physical, passion, everything you would love to see everyweek
as for the game florina played the long ball game hoping that brooksy or elliott got on the end and it worked
downs out played florina in second half only to conceed a late goal with 3min remaining
florina player caught the ball in the box with the linesman flagging for the penalty only to get waved to put his flag down MMMMM
all in all a great game to watch
downs deserved win

Louie did very well let's be honest.

He gave downs a penalty for their first goal ONLY after waiting to see if the Down player who got brought down in the box woudl score because he got his foot to the ball and then was brought down. So he played a very professional 'advantage' and whent eh ball didnt go in, he called it back and gave the penalty.

For the Downs second goal, the home linesman had his flag up for offside and louie waved it away and Downs scored. So i dont think the Downs can complain.
