Remainder of the EPL season
Well it has come down to the pointy end of the season - and it seems like all games have significance for one reason or another. It should make for some good games between now and the end of the season.
There are 3 main attractions awaiting outcome:
1. Obviously the title race. I would like to be in Chelsea's shoes - but there are just no easy games these days. I like Arsenal's run home, and you can never discount Man U. IMO it will be a great achievement for the team that wins it this season. Not saying that it has been easy in other seasons, but it has been one of the toughest years in which to win the crown that I can remember.
2. The race for fourth position. I am buggered if I know who will secure this spot. It is obviously between Spurs, Man City, Villa and Liverpool. I think that it will be either Spurs or Villa. I just don't think Liverpool are up to it this season, and Man City have a tough run in. It just makes every game so important.
3. Relegation battle. I think its a shoe in that Portsmouth will be relegated. The remaining battle to avoid relegation will be immense. I personally love the "6 pointers", but relegation battles can often lead to easy wins to teams mid and higher up the table, as relegation bound clubs often focus on the more winnable games. I don't think that will happen as much this year, as teams have shown they are capable of beating any other team. Owen Coyle might be responsible for the relegation of not one, but two sides. Personally, I think he should have stayed with Burnley, but I guess it might be Karma, if he were to suffer the indignity of seeing two clubs he managed go down. IMO Bolton will avoid the drop and it might be Hull and Burnley that meet the axe with Pompey.
All in all, it makes picking a game on the weekend very hard. I can't wait to see the outcome when the final game of the season is played in April.
My predicitions:
Title - Chelsea
Top Four - Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U & Villa
Relegation - Pompey, Burnley and Hull

Re: Remainder of the EPL season
Toon, shouldn't you be more interested in the Chumpionship or do you reckon the Maggies have got it all done and dusted?
Pleased for Chrissie Hughton especially and will be good to have a well supported side back in the EPL, even if they are Geordies.
I reckon the title is Chelsea's and Liverpoo will still nick fourth spot - just. They've got an easy run home and Villa always seem to choke.
I agree with you on the contents of the down elevator.

CL - Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool (in that order).
Europa - Spurs, City, Villa (in that order).
League Cup - Villa
FA Cup - Spurs vs winner of Citeh/Chavs. Chavs overall winner.
Europa - Marseille/Liverpool (hoping for). But go with Juve. Solace for a sh*t domestic season with deep cup run.

Not necessarily. Doesn't it depend on whether the FA Cup winners have already qualified for Europe via their league position?DOC wrote:7th is europa also

If Man Utd's defence wasn't so weak right now we could probably challenge Chelsea.

I can't see us finishing below 2nd spot when we've been up the top all season but you never know. I think we'll come up as champions thoughNice One Cyril wrote:Toon, shouldn't you be more interested in the Chumpionship or do you reckon the Maggies have got it all done and dusted?

Re: Remainder of the EPL season
LOL, I find it hilarious we've been completely written off for 4th spot by every non-Liverpool supporter on here. Bitter much?
Wishful thinking much?
We were 'completely written off' before xmas with that loss to Portsmouth. Since then its been 1 defeat in 9 games and 2 goals conceeded in ~800mins of football. All this with:
- Ngog/Babel in place of Torres.
- That $hit hairy c*nt that no one rates instead of Agger.
- A lumbering centre back trying to get forward as a right fullback.
- Stevie G not at full fitness.
- Limited use of Yossi Benayoun.
So; Despite Liverpool having a much easier run home than Spurs and City (about par with Villa). And despite Torres, Agger, Johnson, Benayoun and Gerrard all back or at full fitness (just take a second to think how much a world class striker makes a difference compared to a youngster in a 4-2-3-1 system).
Liverpool to crash and burn towards a Europa league spot.
You lot are pathetic.
Avatar bets available for those of you still willing to use fantasy instead of logic....

every team has injuries at one point of the season
back at the start of the season where u lost every second game u had torres, gerrard and benayoun
what was your excuse then?
i havent written you off for 4th, i just wrote you off for a title contender a looong time ago
i reckon with tevez back and a couple of others returning soon and that game in hand i just think man city will steal that spot

We won 5 out of the first 7 games of the season!!
You know City's game in hand against the form team of the league (everton) and have only lost 1 of their past 11 (against who?????)
And apart from Tevez, who else will be returning of signifigance?
(to save you the time - Ball, Petrov and M Johnson...nothing more than bit part players + old man Patrick from his suspension)
You really should take the time to get your facts straight before shooting from the hip.

So I guess no takers for the avatar bet??????

if i were a liverpool supporter (thank god i'm not) i'd be worried about getting all those players back from injury as from what "the kop" has said it sounds like you've done better with out them.

- If Liverpool finish in 4th position or higher the wagee must bear an avatar of my choosing from the time period when 4th position - or higher - cannot be comprimised, until the start of the 2010/2011 EPL season [deemed as the day of the first EPL match].
- Vice versa if any one of Villa/Spurs/City/Birmingham/Neverton/Other get up
