Torres and Gerrard wanted at City
The News of the World isn't disappointing this horribly wet morning.
Their backpage lead is the rather eye-catching claim that Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook is intent on signing Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard.
According to the paper, 'There are those at Anfield only too aware of the threat from City, not least to Liverpool's two biggest stars. After the false dawn of Thakskin Shinawatra, the pledges of owner Sheikh Mansour are proving to be no mirage.
'That sends out a compelling message to both Torres and Gerrard - that they may have to re-evaluate their futures in the summer.'
Hmm. But it's the next couple of lines that really stands out:
'It's not even a secret within the City corridors of power that the hierarchy are plotting a £140million double swoop for both Torres and Gerrard this summer.
'City officials are already planning how they can pull off what would be one of the most audacious transfer coups of all time.'
£140m? Could Liverpool to afford to turn that down?

Re: Torres and Gerrard wanted at City
this shit happens all the time and most of the time the player doesn't actually get bought by the club who wants to buy him. 140 mill isn't anywhere near enough

i reckon torres may leave in the next couple of years if things dont turn around, gerrard will never leave

Gerrard will never leave Anfield, he's made that clear. Its all tabloid BS that says he will. Torres i think will stay 1 or 2 more seasons and if nothing is won, he'll leave.

Re: Torres and Gerrard wanted at City
If 140m was guaranteed to be reinvested in the team, I would snap their hands off. The 2 of them aren't worth that.
Its all hypothetical BS at the moment though. The article is clever, saying they want the players, doesn't mean they will go.

probably team perfomance wise, wouldnt a player like torres want to win trophys in his career??The Kop wrote:based on?Chelsea4thewin wrote:isnt anywhere enough hahahahahatotsreds08 wrote:this cabernet happens all the time and most of the time the player doesn't actually get bought by the club who wants to buy him. 140 mill isn't anywhere near enough

Re: Torres and Gerrard wanted at City
You're very naive if you think he'll stay indefinitely. Great players want to win trophies and club loyalty only goes so far. If Pool can't improve to the point where they are challenging every year then he'll be on his bike. That's not a pop at Liverpool, Fabregas will be the same at Arsenal, Berbastrop was the same at Spurs, Rooney at Everton etc etc.The Kop wrote:based on?Chelsea4thewin wrote:isnt anywhere enough hahahahahatotsreds08 wrote:this cabernet happens all the time and most of the time the player doesn't actually get bought by the club who wants to buy him. 140 mill isn't anywhere near enough

All fans like to think that their players would die for the team, but the reality is that few would.

But Spurs haven't challenged for real trophies for 20+ years, so Berbatov knew what to expect

a man united supporter wouldn't be one to laugh. by your logic of buying berbatov for 30 mill. torres and gerrard would be atleast 200 million.El Capitano wrote:hahahahahahahahahahahahahahatotsreds08 wrote:140 mill isn't anywhere near enough

and i am saying 140 mill isn't enough because these two can't be replaced at anfield

I didnt read that bit in his transfer request 5 or 6 years ago.Red-4-Life wrote:Gerrard will never leave Anfield, he's made that clear.

Speaking of reading. Read his autobiography and see why he will never leave.....Tomas Brolin wrote:I didnt read that bit in his transfer request 5 or 6 years ago.Red-4-Life wrote:Gerrard will never leave Anfield, he's made that clear.

Sorry but Gerrard doesnt seem like the sharpest tool in the shed. What could you possibly get from reading his autobiography unless your a Liverpool fan? It'd be like reading Shreks autobiography, unless he mentioned banging 70 year old hookers when he was still at Everton..The Kop wrote:Speaking of reading. Re: Torres and Gerrard wanted at City
Despite him still being a wonderful player, I'm not sure too many top teams would be prepared to take a big money punt on Stevie G nowadays. His fitness is not guaranteed and he's definitely past his best on a consistency basis, so I think most would rather pay the big bucks for someone with a longer future and a good resale value. The Kop wrote:Speaking of reading. For that reason alone, I think he's missed the boat on changing clubs (if he ever wanted to anyway).

I take it you have met him? What players are sharp then in your mind, and going back to spelling and grammar, I have highlighted a few more for you.Sorry but Gerrard doesnt seem like the sharpest tool in the shed. Keep your informed insights up, cracking reading.
I won't defend Gerrard as you will say I am too biased, but maybe if you knew what (physically) he has gone through this season you will understand why he hasn't performed too well.

Some of what I know is off a Liverpool forum, yes, however Steven Gerrard's best mate has pretty good 'inside info'.
When I meet SG and the rest of the team in 3 weeks, do you have nay questions for them? I have been invited to Carragher's house too.....
