Dont need to press the panic button!
Very easy to see to write negatively bout the girls at the moment, but i think there has been glimpses of the girls becoming a more dominant force in the future.
Donna has done well all season
Ebs and Shorty have done well as a defensive pairing
Quigs has had moments where she has stood out
The interstate girls have done well, certainly a lot better then the ones from the season before.
With you girls like Fimmano and Wallace to come into the side, its not the end of the world to be honest!

Cockayne has stood out and i think has been one of their best, if not their best player. I do believe they can be a force in a couple years. they just need to work harder and be mentally up to playing at a national level.
Re: Dont need to press the panic button!
Well maybe if the players dont go out after the matches and get smashed drinking, maybe there performances might be better!
Not trying to say they shouldnt go out and enjoy themselves, they should be allowed to go out, but i have seen the facebook photos of the players out drinking at clubs or in their hotel rooms having parties getting wasted!
maybe if they lay off the drinking, they might be able to last a bit longer!
maybe management at AU should look into this...

Re: Dont need to press the panic button!
Totally agree mate. The new players need a bit of time to settle as well. Let's not forget these seasons are ridiculously short, and most of the SA girls haven't played consistently at anything like this level before. Does anyone really expect a player from the local leagues in SA to step up to A-League level within 10 matches (Fabian Barbiero is a prime example!), you need time to adjust to the pace and skills of these other sides that call on players with vast international and professional experience. TBH Donna and Shorty didn't quite look up to scratch for much of last season (which is the same accusation being levelled at some of the newer girls), but after those 10 games and the invaluable experience that they have gained they are two of our best and most consistent players.BillShankly wrote:Very easy to see to write negatively bout the girls at the moment, but i think there has been glimpses of the girls becoming a more dominant force in the future.

A few overseas imports of the quality the other sides have brought in, a bit more experience for our local girls, and I personally would LOVE to see a more attack minded attitude on gamedays (Quigs up front!!!) and we'll be right, they certainly can't do it without our support so lets get right behind the girls!
Go you lady reds!

I really dont think the girls going out drinking after a game would have an effect on how they played that day. I believe the girls are free to do what they want after the game

I think it's a matter of lifestyle during the season. A player will definitely feel better and fitter all around if they're not partying at all during the season. I daresay most athletes in all sports know this, and the more successful ones are treating their bodies well.

I believe United boys drink after games and these guys get paid to play. Until some money is exchanged I think the girls should be able to do what they want after games

Re: Dont need to press the panic button!
There are certainly higher levels of the men's game than A-League. Might some of the younger ones who are on their way up be playing in Europe already if they laid off the drink and worked a bit harder? The level of the women's game is going to have to improve before anyone starts throwing money at it. Giving up partying for a few months is a relatively small price to pay if you have the goal of taking your game to the next level, whatever it is.

Re: Dont need to press the panic button!
Im suprised AUFC allows their players to post on here too! Surely Barnett doesnt know their on here or else he would have them banned like the MetroStars boys were during the season.
Im not trying to have a dig at the players, but seriously show some professionalism for the club you play for instead of acting like 10 year olds on this website.
And Commando, you say the AUFC men are out drinking also after games, no wonder both teams are bottom of their tables. And you say their "young". Wheres the guidance, wheres the leadership? Where is someone to show these young players how to treat their bodies during a season.
Some common sense during the season. And they wonder why they are bottom and not many people want to watch them!

Re: Dont need to press the panic button!
I believe they have a rule where consumption of alcohol is not allowed 4 days prior to a game. If u have an issue with the players going out straight after the game for a few drinks then I suggest u take it up with the club

sorry to shut you down, but i never said that
also.. like gubs said, if u have a problem, take it up with the club.
or maybe just delete them from fb so u dont have to have a sook about it
i dont think alcohol is the issue here.. maybe it starts with possibly what they do or dont do at training to prepare them for an upcoming game?
speaking of, what do the girls do on a regular basis leading up to games?

i think both the mens ans womens teams are fucked atm, may as well support the youth league as they are actually scoring goals and winning something
