Owers becomes Aldershot assistant
Owers was Forest Green boss between May 2005 and August 2006
New Aldershot boss Kevin Dillon has named Gary Owers as his assistant.
The 41-year-old played and managed at Forest Green Rovers, Bath City and Weston-super-Mare and coached at Bristol City and Portsmouth.
Dillon said: "I have known Gary for over 20 years from the days where he was at Sunderland and I was at Newcastle United.
"We have a lot in common and I know that he has all the attributes required to do the job."
"Gary is a proper grafter and has gained extensive experience not just as a player but also in management, coaching and on the academy side too. I am looking forward to working with him," he said.
Owers started his playing career at Sunderland in 1986 and went on to make 268 appearances for the club.
He featured in the 1992 FA Cup final in which the Wearsiders lost to Liverpool. Owers also had lengthy spells at Bristol City and under Sam Allardyce at Notts County, totalling over 600 senior appearances in his overall career
