Players and coaches movements

Post by Easy Tiger »

Did clubs have their trials yet?
Who's moving in 2010?
Who's the new Sturt coach? I heard they are losing some players, and Cumby as well.
Any news?

Well why don't you start by sharing what you have heard?

I didn't say it was "bad"...

But yeah, I'm a bit shocked because I don't think at PH she will get the same type of development that she would at another club (like Fulham). I guess it depends what she wants to get from the season, if she's just about playing with friends and having some fun then she's doing well but if she wants to keep getting better as a player then I don't think she is.

And just so that you all know, I don't have anything against PH!!!

I like PH and I am happy they get a good player like RQ. It will definitely be good for the comp, she'll score some goals. But honestly I don't think at this stage a player of that level will improve playing at PH. Sorry, my opinion!

maybe she has had enough of the bullshit that goes with national duty and wants to enjoy her soccer again, or maybe its too far every week for training,,,,or maybe she doesnt like the coach ,,,,who knows.....good on you for going back to your grass roots club......

I heard Cumby lost at least 2 premier players and also some other young ones (sorry no names because I'm not 100% sure, you know rumors...) and that Sturt won't have their former Matildas stars any more. Is that true? Does this include Black?

Oh and yeah, where did you guys hear that Quigley is going to Para Hills??? I heard Para Hills asked her but that's pretty much it...Para Hills apparently asked many top players to join them but asking doesn't mean they're going...

Find it difficult to believe any players would be leaving Fulham after the first half of 2009 transition period and the way they finished off the season. Along with another couple of players resuming after injury next season. Predicting a big year for Fulham in 2010.

Offers to players will abound and I am sure many girls will think very carefully about any offers from or to any clubs in the competition. :)

Why? Don't know much about para but from what i've seen they've improved rather a lot over the past few seasons with a very young side, and I don't see how playing for any premier league club would be just about 'playing with friends and having some fun' whether they finished bottom or top or anywhere in between. Not having a go or anything, i'm just interested to what your reasons would be for saying she wouldn't improve at para?

Yeah, I am not having a go either, but I reckon that players (in general - not just in this case) improve more when they are surrounded by others of same quality or even higher and when they can have the best coaching. Of course every players is different and everyone may get something more from different coaches or team mates, but personally I don't think that PH offers the best coaching and best players yet. Maybe in a few years or maybe for younger players...I don't know, 'cause I don't want this to be read like I'm criticising the club. The fact that they are going after these kind of players is great IMO, but if I was a top player I'd rather go somewhere else...

I say again that Quigs came from Para Hills in the first place. I wouldnt say she did too badly... She obviously got something out of the coaching there.

Im not sure where I'd be looking if I were a top player... To go back to a team like Para gives a chance to be a leader, and to potentially stand out more than if you were playing in a team such as city or olympic where there are a number of top players.

Obviously i'm a little bit biased, (and I know you aren't having a go or trying to give knights a bad name or anything) but I wouldn't be too quick to disparage the level of coaching at Knights. Russell just won the u/16 STIC champs, and won the u/14 last year both extremely competative competitions, and over the past 3 years has taken a core group of players (I say core group because Knights have had a very high turnover of players the past 2 seasons) from being beaten by 15+ before he came, to 9+ in the first season, 5+ plus the second and this year only getting beaten by large scores twice, beating Sturt, Drawing with cumberland and being competative in most games they've played in. All without any standout, experienced players that many of the other sides seem to rely on. To me that shows huge improvements in the side every season, the mark of a successful and talented coach.

We had 35+ girls out for trials for our 2 senior sides tonight, well over half of them new to the club, plus a number more coming tomorrow and sunday, some established, experienced premier league players, others some very talented and promising (although raw) young ones. Wait and see what Russ can do with a squad like the one it looks like we are assembling, and judge his abilities at the end of this season!

 Plus i'm assisting, and i'm amazing!

Good on the Knights then!
I didn't mean to say Russell is a bad coach. I personally think that some coaches are good for some players and other aren't. I also hope that PH get some great player so that next year they are actually competitive...Still think that if I (and again, "if I") was in that position I'd be looking at something else! But obviously I'm not there either, am I?!! Time will tell I guess.

That's sounds pretty promising for Para Hills!
Hope they will get a strong team next year. Who are the Prem players who are looking at moving there apart from Quigley and King?

Most player movements can't be confirmed until the SASI scholarships have been announced or the SASI ruling abolished.
