Q. For Referee's

Post by The Magician »

Well Rob Lozza, I think you may be the only referee on here.

Here's the scenario.. C's match - home referee.

The captain gets 2 yellows in the one game and obviously gets sent off. Totally disputes the send off and marches off the pitch in anger.

Referee then addresses the team that is now down to 10 men " you guys need a new captain, who's going to be the new captain?"

Timmy pops up and volunteers....

Referee then says to Timmy, "You have 60 seconds to get the armband of him (by the way the captain refuses to cooperate) and wear it, or you guys forfeit the match."

_______________

Your opinions please..

As a referee my self, in that situation, if the captain that has been sent off and wont hand over the armband I would just make it clear who was the new captain and resume the game knowing who the captain was even without the armband, in case of further incidents where speaking to a captain may be neccassary. There is no point making a big deal about the situation and threatning to forefit the game.

Captains wear armbands??? :P
Marge, don't discourage the boy! Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals! Except the weasel.

In fairness to the club ref, (who was wearing an official uniform), bar that call/statement, he had a very good game and was consistent throughout IMO.

As FA said "Let it Go", "Let it Go".

The suspense is killing me, so did you forfeit the game or not (making this a strong contender for most worthless post of the year) or did 27 of you tackle your captain, wrestle the armband and install "Timmy" (what adult calls themselves Timmy anyway) as your new captain?

Well when Timmy told him he can't simply make up his own rules on the day in a certain tone I guess he changed his mind....

And power04, seriously....don't you think it's time to change your signature and username?

what do expect from home ref's

some clubs have no grounds for fair play policy of ref's . the sassl should be spending more time making sure these home ref's know the rules and are checked up on.. they do some 1 day course and no proper instructions hence the high level of bias. in saying that some clubs have good home ref's , i dont care if they dont pck everythign up , jsut to be fair and consistant so both teams get a fair go.. not 32 frees to nothing

More a perception than a reality. I can only think of a couple I would have considered as biased, and no course is going to rectify that.
Does Kevin Rudd refer to his genitals as the stimulus package?

Strange decision today...player places ball for free kick....wind causes ball to roll.....player replaces ball....referee awards a free kick the other way
The game had not restarted........

I was expecting something better than that. Pretty lame, didn't even get a smile out of me.

On the other hand Skippy got a little giggle out of me.

Dear Miss Magic,

I would like to point out that the referee at this match is not a player of the Mount Barker Soccer club. The referee is a professional who has performed the qualifications required to be a referee, from my understanding, these qualifications were more than 'some 1 day course and no proper instructions'. In my opinion, the referee was in no way bias towards either team.

Unlike most clubs, we outsource our first choice referee for the C grade game to remove any bias that a player for our team may have that will jeopardise the quality of the game in anyway.

In my personal opinion, I have seen the worst from that player in every game that the Mt Barker Soccer club has played against the Vipers and his conduct on Saturday was appaling. In this particular incident, both players were warned by the official on numerous occasions, with the final straw being when the player from the Vipers decided to push the Mt Barker player behind play as some sort of retribution for something. The decision the referee made after this is totally up to him, and with the referee training behind him, I accept the choice that he made. The part that I do not condone is the abuse the referee was subjected to after the player was sent off, personal attacks on an official is not on and in my opinion, that player was lucky to escape without a caution.

I stand by any decision the referee made as I am confident in his abilities as an official. Personal opinions towards the quality of the referee are acceptable as each person is allowed to have their own judgement towards another person but for these judgements to be withstanding in an open forum they need to be assured of truthfulness and factual to hold any high ground for the club to take it seriously.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Mt Barker Senior Representative

The Mt Barker ref allegedly (I wasn't there) told our E Grade boys that he was on the A-League panel at some stage.

Yeah, the German guy's good on the technicalities, but... yeah. Half of his problem was that the home team didn't respect him. >.< And then, to be honest, you experience terrible referees almost every second week in the reserves. Burundi was probably the worst.
