Re: Saturday League Results - 22/08/09
I'm running late for a quiz night already, but I couldn't resist. These are what I've heard so far:
Division 2
Salisbury Villa v FC Adelaide 4-1 (0-3) - FCA Bs go top, equal with us, but ahead on GD
Comets v OISC 3-0 (0-4) - hard game for our As, will write more later.
Division 4
OISC (2) v Strathalbyn 2-0 (2-1)
Pumas v ACU Falcons 4-1 (4-0)
Murray Bridge v Torrens Valley 3-1
Division 6
Salisbury Villa v FC Adelaide 0-2 - Bodo celebrates a championship.
Flinders v OISC 0-5
PS The Comets marshall, I didn't catch your name! But clearly, according to all who observed, Hulk Hogan was at fault for every OISC goal in the Bs
(I was paid to say that!)

Sturt Marion 1 - 8 BOSA (3-0)
A's
A great performance today from BOSA all over the park. SM played some good football but the determination of BOSA showed just how strong they can be. It quite possibly could have been more. SM did have a player sent off in the first half for a second yellow and of course this contributed to BOSA's domination.
B's
Very different story with a lack luster performance by us and some very good passing and movement from SM. They were first to everything and deserved the win.

If that was you keeping, nice work on playing on with the worse broken nose I've seen. Uni played with 10 men for 60 minutes, and actually played better for it, and held Villa to 0-0 for a long time until a dubious penalty (I'm claiming his legs got tangled in mine) and errr a hand ball from a uni midfielder to gift a volley for the villa player. Villa deserved the win, came out all guns blazing uni didn't.Jack Mehorf wrote:Thanks mate my nose is feeling it!!diegom wrote:Great win by Adelaide Villa beating uni 5-0.

Yes Wanderers won 2-1. We (Saints) missed a couple of sitters early in the game which cost us in the end. Lucky deflection for their equiliser but they were certainly the better side in the 2nd half after a pretty even first half.Jack Mehorf wrote:Thanks mate my nose is feeling it!!diegom wrote:Great win by Adelaide Villa beating uni 5-0.

Murray Bridge 3 - Torrens valley 1
A very poor performance today.. We actually went a goal down after half time! Soon got things going in the right direction but really not a great performance.
On the upside we got away with it due to the opposition (no offence to Torrens boys who played well enough) and at least we had that game today and not next week! I can guarantee we wont play like that again this season - coach was not happy!

A momentous day for the Adelaide Vipers Football Club - Division 1 for the first time, and the 3rd successive promotion!!! More on this later...
A last minute draw for the C's, heartbreaking.
The B's were ruing missed chances at the end of this one - perhaps the big pitch played its part ultimately.
The A's...well, it take a true team to win when they play average. We cannot say we shone like we have in the past, but we did create many chances and kept our attacking mentality about us in this one - with the Skoumbros show handing us 3 points. We took an early lead and Flinders equalised well from a clearance from a corner, a direct shot getting through many a pair of legs from well outside the box. Vipers then had a raft of chances to take the lead back in the 2nd half, with the good quality chances lacking a good quality finish, hit the crossbar, and it was feeling very desperate there at the end, with Flinders having perhaps two chances in injury time to steal all 3 points (with Petropoulos saving with his calf I believe). But, it was an inspired ball in from Geladaris that landed at Pauls feet at the edge of the box and he finished the volley with finesse.
But what a day for the club. Congratulations to all! Securing another 3 points, and with Budapest and Iggies both losing, it now means we have - finally - secured promotion. It was not easy this year - the fact that we still could've been relegated probably 2 weeks ago is testament to that! We found consistency when it mattered the most, and it paid off big time. We've got two games to go to win the title, so there's NO CHANCE in hell we're resting on our laurels. Villa are breathing up our asses and we know it takes just one slip to lose that grip on the cup/certificate/pat on the back

GO VIPERS!!!

A's Africa 3-1 Stirling (1-1)
B's 1-1
A's
Stirling scored with a header at the back post. We equalized through Chalo with a nice volley, scores all even at half time. Midway through the second half we also missed a penalty .
Two late individual goals from Kanga sealed it in the last 10 minutes.
B's
Stirling scored first from a defensive mistake, with the defender failing to clear the ball(never let the ball bounce).
Our goal came from a corner midway through for the second half.
I have to say the grass was nice today, the best has been this year.
Bring on Gleeson next week !!!!

Agreed - Monkey Boy put the visitors ahead and later had a run in with The Roo - The Roo winning that battle I'd say and the match. I was surprised that Saints faded in the second.Far King wrote:Yes Wanderers won 2-1. We (Saints) missed a couple of sitters early in the game which cost us in the end. And welcome back indeed. Bit worried I might have to strap up the wrist at training next week in case I'm needed against Saints. Especially with now 4 injured keepers and 1 unreliable keeper.Jack Mehorf wrote:PS JACKS BACK!!!

Well done to Villa A's. Bit unfortunate for the B's going down 1-0 after losing a player early to a pretty dubious double yellow (first yellow for dissent was fine but the second was BS).
Wow, looks like it might go down to the last round, especially if you guys get up on Saints in the catch up.Bodes wrote:Sturt Marion 1 - 8 BOSA

Ouch. Hopefully either you or Andy can play then. Really don't fancy making my A's debut after missing 9 weeks and with my wrist still not 100%. Will definitely have to strap up the wrist for training on Monday and see how I go just in case.Jack Mehorf wrote:Gerry was having xrays a couple of hours ago, not sure on my nose at this stage, having an xray tom or monday.
