Spurs v LFC
Spanker from Assou-Ekotto just before the break. Can't say they don't deserve it, Keane could've had a hatrick already.
LFC starting like they did last season vs Borough. If I hadn't watched Adelaide United earlier today, this would be some of the worst football I've seen in a while.
Really ridiculous stuff so far. Carragher and Skrtel challenging each other for a ball and doing some damage. Babel has been absolutely non-existent, along with Torres and pretty much Gerrard. Good to see we've carried our preseason form into the season.

couldn't agree more, playing absolutely shit. players aren't on the same wavelength and i think it is pretty sad that lucas has been one of our better performers up to now. better think of something soon before the game gets away from us

yeah that is sad.
oh well, we were just as terrible this time last year and nearly won the league, so there's hope yet. bit worried though, looking at our bench. after yossi, no quality on there.

Glen Johnson goes on a brilliant run and wins a penalty in the 55th minute.

Bassong scores on debut in the 59th minute.
5 yellows for LFC, giving away freekicks left right and centre. They look so far behind it's not funny.

Shit performance. I think the scoreline flatters us tbh.
Reina, Johnson and Benayoun (when he came on) were the only ones I thought had a decent showing. The commentator had it right when he said that Benayoun did more in 20 mins than Babel did in 70. We looked much more threatening with Yossi on the field.

Do Liverpool fans still think they have a realistic chance of winning this thing?
Surely they must be deluded if they think this is their year!

It's the fucken 1st game of the season and to be already writing off Liverpoo is stupid, even though i think Chelski will win the title

Re: Spurs v LFC
deserved loss, no depth on the bench. vorinin should of had a penalty but shit happens. team looks rusty but good to see johnson look decent and eventually win us the penalty

If the Fat Waiter is relying on getting pens to score, they're in for a long year.
Pool hardly created a chance from open play and, if Gomes had half a brain, they wouldn't have got the one penalty they did get.

Re: Spurs v LFC
Spurs are a reasonable team...and Liverpool were garbage.
I am not writing them off but Hull parked the bus infront of Chelsea...and Chelsea got the result. Birmingham played reasonably well in patches and parked the bus against United and they still won. Arsenal flogged the team that finished just below them last season.
So if we dont grind out results against teams that should be beaten we really are deluding ourselves into thinking we are a realistic chance this season.

Re: Spurs v LFC
Spurs are a top 6 team.
Not many teams will get 3pts at the lane this season.
Dunno where all this expert commentary is coming from this morning.
Man U played pretty poorly against a team that is almost certainly to be relegated at home. With a questionable offside goal *.
Chelsea needed Drogba brilliance in the last minute to get past Hull, another side that may battle this year to stay alive.
Arsenal, well hats off to them, all the gooners jump back on the bandwagon.
How you can draw conclusions after the first round.......beyond belief.
*Rooney was onside when the cross came in, however when he struck the header he appeared to be goal side of the defender. Off the post, with no touch from the keeper puts him in an offside position. Technically. But very difficult for the assistant to see.

Re: Spurs v LFC
How we have not purchased a new striker in the off season is absolutely beyond me...
Still miffed about why we released crouch - but that's another discussion altogether.
I watched the game this morning and we had nothing.
Spurs deserved the win and we need to sharpen up if we are to challenge for anything this year. Also need to get back into the market and replace Keane as the 2nd striker... Voronin and Babel just aren't gonna cut it!

do u even know the offside rule?? Rooney was the one that headered the ball against the post. The Kop wrote:Spurs are a top 6 team.

^ you should perhaps be asking yourself that question.....
When a penalty taker blasts in a rebound off the post (without the keeper touching it), will the ref allow the goal to stand???????
If rooney was in an offside position (ie goal side of the last defender) when he made contact with the ball, then hit it in off the post - its offside.
