Another goal feast as Southern Knights played host to Para Hills East at O’Sullivan Beach today minus goalkeeper Mark Kay through work commitments and injured sweeper Brett Moran. Brett’s absence was offset by the return of Matt Harrison and new signing Sandy Neary from Adelaide Hills.
Knights were quick off the mark and as they did against Elizabeth Grove, establishing a 2 - 0 lead with an opportunist goal from Scott Bradley and a sweetly driven goal from David Mooney.
Goalkeeper Ben “Touch” Vidgeon has been in good form for Knights reserves and continued that form for the A’s with an excellent save in the first 20 minutes.
At the other end Chris Bradley rattled East’s crossbar with a sweetly timed volley. Meanwhile Tony Micallef was also giving the East defence a few concerns.
East were quite strong through the midfield and eventually Steven Skinner found a way to reduce Knights lead to 2 -1 at the half time break.
The visitors were more determined and effective after the break with Chris Saggs and Neil Childs working the ball around but were somewhat missing in the finishing department.
Benny Jones and Lyndon Parry were often quickly closed down in the centre of the park but Steve Vickerman, Lee White, Matt Harrison and Sandy Neary were holding firm in Knights defence.
Knights eventually were able to break through with Sandy Neary notching his first goal for Knights to make it 3 -1.
East bounced back with a second goal when a free kick from the edge of the area was deflected passed Ben Vidgeon in Knights goal. Shortly after they came close when a searing drive struck Knights crossbar and bounced just on the line.
Matt Daughtry came on for a limping Tony Micallef and added renewed spark up front for the home side.
Following and excellent save that left Ben Vidgeon in some pain, Knights rebounded and David Mooney sealed the result at 4 – 2 with his second of the game.
*note....some of my observations might be a little incorrect but I saw a lot of the game through a small LCD !!!!
And I think some swine has given me the flu ?
Before the game both teams huddle to discuss if anyone knows a victory song other than zigger-zagger.
Knights timing was slightly out at the start of the game.

Southern Knights ( 2 ) Para Hills East ( 6 )
Jamie "Crouchy" Thompson (2)
Para Hills East Reserves were off to a quick start after their long journey south to play Southern Knights and seemed to be leading 0-2 in no time at all after punishing basic errors made by their southern opponents. Knights Paul Thompson had a goal ruled out for offside by an excited linesman and soon after East notched a 3rd. A little while later Jamie “Crouchy” Thompson made the scoreline a little more respectable at 1 - 3 going into half time.
The second half was a repeat of the first with Para hills East bagging another 3 goals and “Crouchy” netting his second for the game which finished at 2 – 6

Terry Smith didn't play, he hasn't played for quite a few weeks now. The second goal was scored by Chris Saggs but i'd put it down as an own goal off the third deflection it took.

Last played in round four I believe. Just not at the club anymore- due to some personal reasons. Definitely a big loss to us in the goal scoring department.swannsong wrote:Is Terry injured or suspended ?mr bigglesworth wrote:Terry Smith didn't play, he hasn't played for quite a few weeks now.
