Why is Andrews Farm soccer club in Elizabeth Field?

Post by povman_2009 »

For some strange reason the E&D have decided to allow a new club Andrews Farm to be located where the former Elizabeth Field was situated. There are plenty of struggling clubs already in the competition, did we need another one ? If we did need another one then why not find a location for it closer to the geographic centre of the relatively newly developed Andrews Farm area. Could these players not join in at Munno Para or Elizabeth Downs ... or did the E&D want a new toy ?

Pov going fishing again hehe waiting for the woodwork to open up :) counting 10,9,8,7......

I think you will find the E&D pays for use of Eliz Fields - the Andrews farm new team either cant afford or havent got a pitch in the Andrews Farm area yet so they are helping them out to start with.

But yes you wonder with Gawler,Virginia,Munno Para, Eliz Downs all not that far away, you do think maybe its a bit to many out there. Time will tell I suppose.

Pov you are dead right. Isnt this at the site of their academy? I think you will find that they needed to get more use out of the site. Parents will still send their kids to Gawler or the downs etc. Why couldnt they help out Angle vale find more grounds. Why should this club survive at that site when Eliz Field didnt.

Over to you BOSS

Why wouldn't you let a new club in to account for the number of kids wanting to play?

From what I have been told clubs like Vista and TTG have hundreds of kids but not the space or facilities to accomodate them and still take on more so they have to turn kids away from their clubs. I don't know what the clubs near Andrews Farm are like in this situation but shouldn't we be encouraging kids to play and if the exsiting clubs cannot accomodate them the new clubs with grounds etc are needed.

This will be especially important over time as soccer tries to take more and more kids away from AFL.

I would agree with you if the club was in Andrews Farm... but there are already more than 6 other clubs within a 6 km radius some of whom have really struggled for numbers in the last few years, there are also plenty of clubs around TTG and Modbury who would be happy to take kids on... PHE for one.

where is elizabeth fields? that suburb was renamed davoren park years ago!

have you visited this area recently povman? in less than two years andrews farm will be as far south east as the corner of stebenheath rd and petherton rd which would be less than 500m from kalara reserve where they will be playing.the only playing area in andys farm is st colombia school which i'm sure they wont lease and with the suburb growing very quickly with large numbers why not form a soccer club!

6 clubs in 6km's? name them! i can only think of five.............and they are 6kms at the closest..

are the east struggling for players? should you merge with westies then..

the fields folded as the area was ageing but with the expansion of land in andrews farm why not give the youth of andrews farm a sport they can play that truly represents their area not a country town(angle vale, gawler)
or the 6-7 km drive to munno para/downs or they may turn to footy

Robin I am not trying to start a war... I just asked a question, FYI the reserve is still known as Elizabeth Fields Reserve, and having grown up in the area the name changes are all a bit naff to me , there are 6 clubs within a 6.5 km radius of the Oval , not the suburb of Andrews Farm, but this club is not there either. That is my point.

Vale / Grove / Downs / Munno Para / Angle Vale / Eastern Park

I would rather they put the effort into finding a location in the heart of Andrews Farm, they do not need to go and play at Gawler, they already have enough teams anyway.

But some effort in encouraging the existing clubs to survive would be better than watching them all slowly die would be nice.

I will bring up your suggestion re East / West at our next committee meeting, although I do not fancy our chances.

I am just ranting now, time to go and read ...

6 = virginia club within 7 k's has been upgraded over the last few years with new lighting, clubroom upgrade and new outside areas. well worth a look for anyone on the outer of andrews farm / angle vale and surrounding country areas.

Why is Gawler at Evanston Gardens, Modbury Vista at Wynn Vale, Munno Para at Elizabeth Downs, Para Hills West at Salisbury East and Tea Tree Gully at Surrey Downs?

In all seriousness, I believe the choice was to use the existing facility for the first year or two to get the club up and running.

The council by then will provide a park/reserve in "Andrews Farm" for the club as the area develops because nothing is available at the moment.

People have to understand that the demograhics of an area can change when land releases or new developments go ahead. When the Fields folded, there wouldn't have been enough young families in that area to sustain the club any longer.
Now that is changing and you can't draw a comparison.

One could also argue that you could start a club at Mawson Lakes for the same reason, as Ingle Farm and Parafield Gardens are the closest clubs and they are probably close to their capacity at the moment.

If we want our sport to grow and attract juniors, then we have to be located where the young families are, hence Modbury and TTG busting at the seams. Unfortunately, the clubs in the older demographic areas such as Grove, Eastern Park, etc will struggle to continue to attract juniors.

PS Povman, St Augustines is not named after a suburb but at least Para Hills East is in its' right suburb.

After a few moves PHE did indeed settle in their rightful place...

I understand all the reasons why Andrews Farm is happening , but why are the E&D so heavily involved themselves... do they help other clubs so directly ? I just see it being an issue when the limited resources are being shared out.

In all these new developments like Golden Grove, Mawson Lakes, Andrews Farm and many other developments you will never see a new soccer or footy oval being created its all about houses only 25% of land has to be given back for open space.

Why do you think TTG and Mod Vista have so many teams because Delfin & the Gov just wanted houses Mawson Lakes & Andrews Farm will be no different.

Thankfully in the Eliz & Dist areas there is an abundance of ovals that were created due to the vision of people like Sir Thomas Playford these days they get sold off for houses.

At the end of the day if theres a kid that wants to play and theres an oval nearby then let them play.

Right you are swanny its 12.5% in all metro council areas my typo

Down South in the City Of Onkaparinga, the developers are only required to leave 12.5% for open space.

I think we have been here before Povman and my argument was why the other areas such as Vista and TTG have not had another club forced onto their area - something stinks there.

My understanding is that if a E&D vote gets to the council clubs vote then the council of clubs votes is based on the number of children in individual clubs so with TTG and Vista have larger numbers they would have greater voting power.

So this may explain some things if true?

Do you think theyve got so many kids because theyre a great clubs they might well be but at the end of the day there arent any more ovals in that area for clubs to set up. Not sure what your trying to sniff?

You get 1 vote for each team you have so effectively if Vista and TTG get together they can influence things. Its something that should be changed IMO.

I agree lefty but change and E&D generally doesnt go hand in hand unfortunely- first it has to get past the guys that run the E&D (and some of them actually wrote the E&D constitution so they will not look to change anything because they did such a good job when they set so many years ago) they have to decide if they want to put to a vote (ie vote to have a vote) then it has to get a majority vote in the council of clubs and with the way its set up why would the ones that hold the power vote to reduce there power. Poor old small clubs like Eastern Park, One Tree Hill ETC just have to go with the flow as in the end they really dont have much pull IMO. Thats how I see it anyway I could be wrong?

So what you're saying is that a club like Eastern Park who may have say only 40 kids should have the same voting power as a TTG and MV who have 300-400 each ??
I am sure that either club wouldnt mind another club in the area as there both pretty close to capacity anyway, but it boils down to one simple thing..avaliable recreational land, and it certainly costs big bucks to maintain grounds to a suitable standard.
Sounds like a little bit of tall poppy syndrome if you ask me, both clubs are long established ,are well run by dedicated people, and provide the opportunity for many kids in the area to play the game. I am sure that monies generated by these clubs go straight back into providing better facilities for the kids, (not into paying senior wages  ).
If there was to be another club in the area in the future it would have to be around Greenwith way I would have thought.

What Im saying is I dont agree with the current voting right structure and Im sure Mr Bovoni would love to have more say at EP. TTG and MV do a great job with the numbers they have its a big job to run those amount of teams.

Im no tall poppy and you should stop jumping to conclusions there are good people in every club who are dedicated.

There is plans I believe to build one at Harpers Fields in future wouldnt put one in Greenwith a bit steep it would be worse than Ingle Farms Seniors ground dont need anymore of them. Delfin gave TTG council land behing there old office where the Police Station is for sporting ovals that goats couldnt even walk up and how many oval are they building in Mawson Lakes 0 so in time clubs like Para Hills & Parafield Gardens have to take more kids.

When I was involved at MV up until a couple of years ago, I attended the AGM most years, and the incomings and outgoings for the Juniors and Seniors were very much separate, and that any coaches fees were being generated by the Seniors themselves, nothing coming from the Junior side of the Club.
