Starting 11 vs Indonesia
I think the squad named for the Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia is a good bunch of the A-Leagues best players here is my starting side and a reason for each:
Goalkeeper:Galekovich (He has proved himself as the A-Leagues best keeper with his performances in the Asian Champions League and A-League)
Defenders:
Vardgas(Good Consistency and can score the occasional goal),
Moore (Has good experience at this level and great leadership)
Cornthwaite ( Great Champions League campaign and deserves a chance)
Topor-Stanley ( Has played for the Olyroos and and can hold his own down back)
Midfeilders:
Jameison (Probably the A-Leagues Best Midfeilder)
Cole (Great Set Peice taker and is a top finisher)
Elrich( Plays forward but could be a good Attacking Midfeilder, Plus great commitment to get the ball)
Celeski( Been important in Melbournes late surge to finish top of league)
Forwards:
Archie Thompson (Great Ball control and has as many assists as goals)
Matt Simon (Great aerial ability would combine well with Thompson)
please reply with your starting 11

Re: Starting 11 vs Indonesia
Jambo is a left back not a mid-fielder, I do not think we need both Cornthwaite and Topor Stanley at the back, we are playing Indonesia, they are not known for their height. I would leave out Hyphen and play 3 at the back
and in a strange co-incidence after all the discussion around Sasa playing for Macedonia. Billy Celeski was born in Ohrid, Republic of Macedonia ... how bizarre.

Well Cornthwaite did not even get on the plane, due to a hip injury, so I guess he will not be starting.

Cornthwaite to miss AFC Asian Cup Qualifierpovman1964 wrote:Well Cornthwaite did not even get on the plane, due to a hip injury, so I guess he will not be starting.
He was meant to be on his way to Jakarta to join the Qantas Socceroos squad but Reds defender Robert Cornthwaite has instead returned to Adelaide due to a hip injury.
Having hardly trained in the lead up, the 23 year old took the injury into the game against the Central Coast Mariners on Sunday and played out the 90 minutes despite the hindrance. The tall defender fought off the discomfort to produce a fine performance in defence, his contribution required due to the absence of his regular centre back partner Sasa Ognenovski through suspension.
The injury has not come at the best time for Cornthwaite, who was named alongside Reds teammates Eugene Galekovic, Scott Jamieson and Paul Reid in the 21 man national squad to face Indonesia on Wednesday in an AFC Asian Cup Qualifier.
“I had a bit of a hip injury all last week and was probably lucky to get through the 90 minutes (against the Mariners) so I thought I better do the right thing and say I’m not 100 per cent because if I went over there and had to play and wasn’t able to, I would have been letting everyone down,” Cornthwaite said after United’s squad returned from Gosford yesterday.
“So it’s disappointing but hopefully I get another opportunity.”
Playing through the pain against the Central Coast, Cornthwaite’s devotion to The Reds unfortunately came at another cost, when he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season, which rules him out of the Major Semi Final 1st leg against Melbourne Victory at Hindmarsh Stadium. However, despite following Ognenovski with a mandatory one match ban, Cornthwaite says United’s squad has proven to have the depth to cover injuries or suspension.
“We’ve got a lot of depth. Michael Valkanis stepped up again (on Sunday) and Sasa (Ognenovski) will be back, so I’m sure we’ll have the people there to cope with Melbourne,” he said.
Arriving back in Adelaide without the Premiers Plate after falling agonisingly short of winning the silverware and automatic qualification into the 2010 AFC Champions League, Cornthwaite said the squad had tried its best to try and get the two goal win that was required to finish top. But while the team was disappointed not to accomplish the mission, he also said all was not lost and that there were still a number of positives.
“We gave it everything we had. The boys were obviously disappointed that we didn’t wrap up top spot but at the same time we left no stone unturned, we hit the crossbar and the post and showed a lot of endeavour going forward,” Cornthwaite said.
“I think it was the best game we’ve played in five or six weeks so it gives us a lot of confidence going into the finals.”
“We were disappointed not to come top but I think more importantly we didn’t finish third, and we get the double chance and given ourselves a good chance of making the grand final.”
With his injury, Cornthwaite will now be forced to join the rest of the country in watching the Qantas Socceroos’ match against Indonesia LIVE on FOX SPORTS. Kick-Off is at 11.00pm (ACDT) this Wednesday (28 January).

I hope that we play a good first half and just hold our own and then he brings on Zullo or Celeski.

Re: Starting 11 vs Indonesia
0-0 Half time. Indonesia have looked significantly better going forward. Our players don't know how to beat men from standing starts. Archie Thompson has been awful, really brought his D-game tonight. Indonesia are running at us and it's causing issues. You'd think with our height and weight advantage we could put alot of pressure on them by doing similar.
