Moving to Adelaide from the UK, looking for a junior team?
Hi there,
We are moving to Adelaide from the UK in mid-January. Our son [D.O.B. Nov 1999] is very keen to carry on with his football once relocated in Aus. Unfortunately, it seems that most clubs have already had junior trials in November and our enquiries so far have all replied saying that their squads are full for the upcoming season. Does anybody know of any clubs that are still looking for players in that age category, or of any clubs that would be willing to allow the boy a chance to show what he can do? As you can imagine, he will be devastated if there are no Australian junior football teams willing or able to give him a chance until this time next year.
If anyone on here is, or knows, a junior coach on the lookout in Adelaide: he is a very keen, committed and fit footballer who generally plays in defence; he has had a great season here in the UK (his under-9s team have just won the Tameside and District Junior League in Manchester): http://full-time.thefa.com/Index.do?sel ... on=2933953 - http://glossopjuniors.co.uk/under_9.html; he was awarded the 'Manager's Player of the Year' trophy for last season; and his current coach has said he would be more than happy to give him a letter of recommendation if that would be any help [?].
Many thanks in advance
Paul & Eileen Brotherton

Probably depends on which part of Adelaide you live as to the clubs that could be in the picture for you I suppose

You will be looking at an u/10 team for 2009, and as Reds pointed out, probably depends where you will be living in Adelaide ???

This is an interesting scenario and highlights the ludicrous nature of the junior environment in our game, a 9 year old lad , should not need references to get a kick. FFS clubs need to be more inclusive at this age and look to get every child who wants a kick a place in a team. Personally I am disgusted by this situation. I hope sanity prevails and he gets a run with a club that is keener on getting kids playing the game than selecting a squad to win a championship at U/10
end of rant.

As Paul and Eileen said, the clubs they have contacted are FULL, is there something wrong with that ???povman1964 wrote:This is an interesting scenario and highlights the ludicrous nature of the junior environment in our game, a 9 year old lad , should not need references to get a kick. No one (Reds or myself) said the kid had to trial first, and you cant just take him in and drop another kid that's already in the team. And you cant just add an extra player, meaning more players on the bench and less game time for all
Like we said, tell us where you are going to live in Adelaide, and I'm sure a club (u/10 or u/11) can be found near to their home.

Re: Moving to Adelaide from the UK, looking for a junior team?
not another city fan, that means there's two in adelaide now.
in all seriousness though, most of the clubs you would've spoken to alreay i would imagine are federation clubs which would've already had trials, ideally this is where you would want a promising young lad to play but if he has missed the trials there are plenty of descent Elizabeth & Districts teams in the north that he could get a run with for a season and then try out at the Fed clubs for the following season. it's not the best system at the moment as sometimes at a young age a year can be wasted at E&D but at least he'll be able to play.

Re: Moving to Adelaide from the UK, looking for a junior team?
Hey thanks. What a great response!
It looks like we are almost certainly moving to North Adelaide, so if that immediately suggests any particular clubs or teams then that would be very useful as we obviously don't know the layout of the city that well yet. It does seem to be a curious set-up, where squads are closed for the whole of the upcoming season before it even starts. Even very good UK teams are usually happy for an interested boy to drop by and have a couple of try-outs mid-season. But when in Rome etc...
So there is already a Man City fan in Adelaide? Two is more than enough for a supporter's club and the adoption of a pub to watch games in
Thanks again, everyone, for being so helpful

Please see below details for Adelaide Cobras...look to have vacancies in their Under 11's for next year and your lad may be able to play up a year....have a look at the thread further down in the juniors for some feed back but my lad played there a couple of years ago and we still keep in touch with them....was impressed at their desire to put the kids first.
Hi to all,
The Adelaide Cobras Football Club recently completed trials for the upcoming 2009 season. As all age groups were filled we were still left with a influx of players for the UNDER 8, 11, 12, 15 age groups. As it stands we are a couple of players short for each of those age groups and are therefore looking for players interested in joining for 2009.
If there are players out there who did not make it at other clubs and still want to play please contact:
George Karittevli on 0409 097 229
or email
george.karittevli@hotmail.com
I look forward to hearing from you.

only 2 city fans your avin a larff mate
we had a dedicated city supporters club that ran from about 89,90-2000ish. met once a month at the union and had regular 30 or so in attendance. they were the dark years dropping down to div 3 but as usual the city folk turned up to watch videos and find out the news. then we climbed the ladder , the internet was invented(so news was readily available) and the numbers dropped off. there was a man city over 35s team came out of this club and has been playing in the masters league for a few years now so if your interested the guy that runs the team is on this site, under the name man city over 35s, funny that...have a look at amateur league forum youll find him on there ,

Re: Moving to Adelaide from the UK, looking for a junior team?
I think if your moving to the Northern side of Adelaide, Elizabeth and Districts will be able to help you with your club, their website is EDJSA, You can go on that site and find a club in the vicinity of where you are moving too. It will be a start anyway. Most EDJSA clubs will be able to help. I can name a few that in our experience have been very helpful but then not everyone has the same opinion. So I suggest you go to their site and find the contact for the club nearest to where you are going to be. Hope this is helpful, having done the move, I wish you all the best and Im sure you wont regret it!

Hey, thanks a lot for taking the time to help everyone! There seem to be a good number of possibles: West Adelaide; The Cobras; Elizabeth & District. We are starting to feel hopeful that something will turn out for him. That Man City veterans team sounds like a good laugh if it's still going...
All the roads are closed for snow around here. We are guessing it must be nice and warm right now in Adelaide......? See you all in Jan.

Re: Moving to Adelaide from the UK, looking for a junior team?
Who and what are Man City.....? The only football team in Manchester (Salford Rangers are in Trafford) for a start. If the Germans had invaded England in 1940, United fans would have collaborated and City fans would have joined the resistance. That puts it in a nutshell. Plus we have all that Arab oil money now. Every time you fill up your car you are contributing to David Villa's transfer fee....

great taste redmum! i usually get a fry's orange cream or a caramac after we do our shopping at the village, from the little sweet shop in the middle of the food court, with an irn bru!... still waiting for the monster munch to arrive!
we had a visitor arrive today to stay with us for christmas and new year and she brought over a big pack of flakes. even the normal dairy milk chocolate is so much better. mmmmmmmmmm
shitt i've done it again, totally hijacked the thread with marmite and chocolate! sorry man city, but be prepared folks, the chocolate's crap.
