Saturday Division One Round 16 Predictions

Post by Missing Post Count »

St Peters went top last weekend and would feel confident hosting Navarino who on last outing slipped into the relegation zone, despite having enough chances to have got a result against the Africans. The Africans travel to Old Ignations. Games between these two sides have alway produced goals with the Iggies having come out on top in all previous meetings between the two (5-4, 5-1 and 3-2). The Iggies desperately need a win. Wanderers host Bosa and will be looking to get back to winning ways after recent slip ups. The remaining two ties don't really have much bearing on the championship or relegation.

Round 16 23/08/2008
OLD IGNATIANS vs AFRICAN ALLSTARS - If I didn't have to work I would be at this game. Score draw.
ST PETERS vs NAVARINO FC - St Peters
ADEL WANDERERS vs BOSA - Wanderers
GLEESON COLLEGE vs MODBURY JETS - Jets
ADELAIDE UNI (1) vs STIRLING DISTRICTS - Stirling coming good at the moment

Round 16 23/08/2008

OLD IGNATIANS vs AFRICAN ALLSTARS - New coach @ OISC, new belief. Both teams need a win, Iggies will be too good. 3-1.
ST PETERS vs NAVARINO FC - St Peters 4-1.
ADEL WANDERERS vs BOSA - Wanderers 2-0.
GLEESON COLLEGE vs MODBURY JETS - Modbury. 3-1
ADELAIDE UNI (1) vs STIRLING DISTRICTS - Stirling. 4-2.

If Iggies get up on the weekend, it makes the bottom 5 interesting.
Considering Iggies have a catchup game with Adel Uni. Might decide who gets relegated.

Maybe I can, maybe I can't.

Nothing definitive, but I imagine we would be looking to play this game on 13th September.

I think both Bosa and Uni are both pretty much safe.

BOSA yes,
Uni no....Been struggling!

Tough run home and if Iggies bet them, will be tight in the bottom 4!

I think Navarino are down and if we do not beat Africa this weekend, we join them.

BOSA and Uni will not go down, they're both safe unless something absolutely remarkable happens.

Bosa have goal difference on their side. For Uni to go down it'll require two of the sides below them to pick up points.

ST PETERS vs NAVARINO FC - St Peters 3-0
ADEL WANDERERS vs BOSA - Wanderers to come back with a vengeance and win 3-1
GLEESON COLLEGE vs MODBURY JETS - Jets 3-0

Iggies v Africans - 2-1 Iggies will be more desperate and too strong (Ressies 3-0)
SPOC v Navarino - 4-0 SPOC to put another nail in the Navarino coffin (3-1)
Whingerers v BOSA - 3-1 Staying away from the forums may mean the Whingerers have regained some focus (2-0)
Gleeson v Jets - 0-3 Jets too strong and will enjoy this one (1-2)
Uni v Stirling - 0-2 Stirling on a good run; the same can't be said of Uni (1-1)

Navarino have the worst run in of the three with St Peters and Wanderers in consecutive weeks. Africa also has to host St Peters so unless there's an upset in those three games Bosa and Uni are all but mathematically safe. You've got Modbury and Stirling and Africa has Stirling on the final day so difficult games for all three teams involved.

Had a look at a couple of the promotion hopefulls last night and Sturt look like they have the goods, if they have the same team for next year. Don't know if it's true but someone said to me last night that half the team is from the Stirling team which won the league last season.

yeah...3 players from the squad....plus coaching staff!

Sturt are very good from set pieces, free kicks, corners.
But from general play they're ok.

I'm assuming they scored there goals from set pieces last night?

Be mid table in Sat Div 1 next yr.

There's defintiely 5 players from Stirling there, could be more.

Both of their goals against us (St Peters) in the cup were from set pieces. They also have a big home ground advantage playing on that pitch that's not much bigger than a postage stamp.

Div 1 should be pretty competitive next year presuming Sturt and Villa come up, both would probably finish in the top half of Div 1.

There are actually 6 players from Stirling's Div 1 Champion side of 2007.
I am pretty sure those 6 had been with Stirling for many years and enjoyed much success.
They were all there over the last four years for sure when they won two championships and finished second in the other two years. Quality team at the time.
These 6 players may not have been the entire heart and soul of the club but they are definitely a great chunk!!
As for Villa going up with Sturt that is looking more unlikely after Sturts win last night.
Cove and Villa play each other this weekend and realistically the winner of that will probably go up.

Villa have to be firm favorites to finish 2nd. If Villa win next week they'll almost certainly finish 2nd, if Cove win they'll only be level on points and Cove still have to play Sturt again.

It's rare to see an amateur league coach dressed up in a suit, although wednesday night may have just been a one off.

Bodo, You don't happen to win 3 championships and narrowly finish 2nd (twice) in a 5 year period without being switched on. The suit is an outward reflection of the organisation, professionalism and pride that the coach places on his role in a winning squad. Not sure about the tie selection though.

Boo hoo. Get the F over it.

OLD IGNATIANS vs AFRICAN ALLSTARS - Iggs hungry after 2 weeks off.
ST PETERS vs NAVARINO FC - No contest
ADEL WANDERERS vs BOSA - Not that i'm happy with it.
GLEESON COLLEGE vs MODBURY JETS - Bore Draw, but with plenty of action for the ref.
ADELAIDE UNI (1) vs STIRLING DISTRICTS - Draw - nothing in it.

Reserves
Iggs - Only if their coach hasn't woken up and switched their firsts and reserves teams.
Saints - Again, no contest.
BOSA - they can score a few when they want
Modbury - Mods slipping, but should do it easy
Uni - Contrasting styles, but uni to win with it on the deck.
