Sun Div1 results 15/6

Post by redsfan20 »

Results? match reports?
Westies 2 Vale 1. Fantastic result today in a crucial game see the boys from the west move into first place. Half way into the season it means nothing but we'll be working our asses off to stay there. I thought we had the wood on the vale for most of the game creating more chances and looking more likely to take the three points. The ref was busy all day with the physical game the Vale are synonomous for causing plenty of free kicks (also two red cards for Hobbs and Nicholls late on + a penalty for vale.) Westies defense were superb today making it almost inpenetrable for the Vale attackers and the midfield worked tirelessly all day. Nice to play in front of a big crowd today. Bring on the second half of the season tight battles at both ends of the table should mean superb games and fierce battles.

Was a cracking game down at manor farm oval today. Was your typical kick feast from 1 end to the other as always against the vale. Big thanks to sailsbury council for the fantastic state of the pitch. Was hard for both teams to play the ball on the ground, westies defintely controlled possession and apart from 1 mistake at the back from westies they dominated possession. Nicholls unlucky to be sent off near the end considering the amount of elbows and crunching tackles flying in all game. Vale looking very old and slow at the back.

good win today redsfan.

Florina 3-0 USC Lion

Tough game today, we played well but couldnt put our chances away. Florina went 1-0 up and we had a great chance to equalise. I was waiting to sweep the ball into an empty net before the ref decided to blow for a florina freekick which appeared to be very soft. I stuffed my knee again and was stretchered off and Djoko was injured and had to be substituted, which left us very light on upfront. Florina took full advantage and punished us from two set pieces in the second half to put the game beyond doubt. Thanks to Florina for the hospitality after the game it was very much appreciated.

The result and injuries makes the second half of the season a real challenge for us to stay up. The boys are still keen to fight on and i hope we can turn things around quickly.

Heard farm beat Pontians 2-0 in the A's.

-FLORINA FIGHT OUT A 3 - 0 WIN AGAINST USC LION-

This week Salisbury Florina were back at home at Underdown Park where they faced USC Lion.

Florina needed nothing more than three points as they had put a string of four draws in a row and needed to back them up with a win. The game started off with Florina in control and making an early statement when Trevor Elliott slotted home the first goal, 1 - 0. It seemed Florina would further take the lead when Trevor Elliott missed a near identical shot he previously scored on.

The rest of the half saw USC Lion come into the game with last 20 minutes being box to box action.

Halftime 1 - 0.

The second half saw Florina slowly take control and the defence stood strong and kept USC Lion out of the box forcing long shots. Half way through the second half Florina further took the lead when Frank Marron scored from a set peice and Florina looked sure of victory 2 - 0. The game continued in the same fashion and Florina scored with about ten minutes remaining again through a set piece with Paul Hoey scoring with a header 3 - 0. The game was all over now and Florina would hope to climb the league table.

Fulltime 3 - 0.

PHW 2 - Vale 1

Not too much to say on this one.
PHW were Poor but they are a young hungry team.
We, the Vale, were obviously worst with not enough hunger.
The REF was an absolute Shocker, probably the worst display I have seen in the Amateur League.

Its only Half way and Westies, Farm and Vale are all within a game of each other.
Bring on the next half of the Season.
At the end of it all there will still be Football !!

C'mon now Ginger i could've had a deck chair during the game i was that bored!!! Our defenders all four of them gave you a bath. I think the ref got a few wrong as they all do but for the most part the fouls were there. He ref'd the whole game the same way your guys should've played smarter but instead continued being overly physical and giving away cheap free kicks robbing you of gaining any momentum.

Here we go again, another win from Westies and once again classed as poor by the defeated. The game was completly dominated by the West boys both by there pace and determination. The ref was the same for both sides all game and vale just lost control and threw in tackles that weren't called for. Only the half way mark and taking one game at a time, doing us okay up till now!

Ok sounds like I've go under the PHW skin a bit with my post
PHW are a good hard working team with the hunger to win games but I wouldn't rate them as the Best I have played against and cant see them lasting the distance at the TOP of the league.
We can play a lot better than we did yesterday and I am confident the return leg will be a whole different game.
Come August I may be eating my words but I dont think so.

So well done to PHW on their win and on their undefeated status which is a good achievement after 9 games in DIV1.
BUT I cant wait for the next half ofthe year and bring on round 18 !!!
At the end of it all there will still be Football !!

We all keep saying that but they keep winning. They are doing something right.

Big turn around by Westies from last year. This time in 07, they were second to bottom. Now they are clear top

I did predict that result. 8) Every week we come on here and every week so far westies have done the business on their opposition. Looking at both teams as a match up it was always going to be tough for the Vale. They have got the experience, but lack in the pace. I think that is a major thing in amateurs today, pace.
It will be interesting to see how the Vale finish off the season with a few older guys possibly feeling it as the season gets on. More injuries? Supensions? It will test their depth in my opinion.

Big turnaround for Westies really occurred from midway through last season. The side (I believe) is now unbeaten in 18 league games stretching back to midway through last season. That form improvement has continued this season and with some additional significant personnel (and the significant loss of some) the side is playing well and has continued to confound the critics.

Season is only half way through and I guess all teams will have their resources stretched (due to suspension/injury) over the last part of the season. Take 2-3 key players out of any of the top sides for too long and they will struggle to keep the momentum up.

Westies were all class. They certainly had no trouble brushing aside a slow, clumsy Vale. Large crowd in at Manor Farm to witness Westies continue to silence their critics! Sitting top at the half way point, not bad for a poor team

There was a large crowd who attended the West Vale game, the scrappy game would not of entertained. West play a very defensive game which nullified the Vale's free flowing attacking play, wich was without D.Nicholls. Alot of the time they had five at the back, a few times they had six back and then play on the break. I agree the keeper didnt have a lot to do but neither did ours it was a game of very few chances. After playing everyone now Westies approach is very effective, if they keep grinding out 1-0, 2-1 wins they will go very close at the end of the season.

Just making sure everyone is aware that a 'poor' team is leading Sunday Div 1.

I dunno, you’re down the other end aren't you? Perhaps you’re a 'good' team?

Great to see big Francis Awaratifi back scoring goals in s.a, the Marron bros are big ins, along with Elliot and Paikos, Florina are travelling very well.

Just a quick report on our game vs the gardens. The lead up into the game was very casual considering how big a game it was for us. I was worried well before the first whistle because it had the same feeling as it did against West Beach. And the start we had showed that. We started slow as f*ck and the gardens boys punished us for it. They were 2-0 up and we managed to get a scrappy goal back. Had a couple of chances to get back to a 2-2 scoreline but gardens caught us napping again. Some di*khead (me) got caught ballwatching and lost his man who casually just drifted to the back post and scored a volley to make it 3-1. For some reason we just couldnt generate the same run particularly through the middle as we did against the downs. Gardens were a pretty decent side and knocked the ball around well, but we just werent up to it. Personally I was embarrassed with my own performance and hopefully we can turn it back around this week at the Cove.
