Premier League so Far

Post by adelaidepie »

So we are nearing the half way mark and there has been some interesing results in regards to teams winning and yet still it is still very close at the top. In fact I would say closer than a few people may have thought!

Four teams on the same points with three of them already having the bye. Some teams maybe achieving better than people have given them the ability to do, while others whom people may have thought would have been doing better are struggling.

Yes No?

I will start with this,

Maybe most would have thought that Fulham as reigning premiers x4 would still be around the mark so no surprise there.
Ditto Metro.
Ditto Adelaide City.

Sturt Marion at this stage seem to have got the break on Olympic and Cumby.
Para Hills are going probably better than some may have thought.
Campbelltown seem to be struggling a little and need results soon or will lose touch with the top ground, while Toros are getting closer to a win but again as would have been predicted are finding the top flight a little tough.

As Gawler and Para Hills know it takes a couple of seasons to get used to the top flight and Toros have a young group of players, both reserves and prems. As do other clubs.

All are still in the hunt for the premiership but the bottom two probably need to start winning now to catch the rest and keep the pressure up. From Cumby up there is still little in the race as once the bye has kicked for every team, this can make a difference quickly over the week as you can catch some one up.

So another exciting week and hopefully more exciting results.

Thoughts anyone?

preety much spot on.

i have seen both sturt and metro play and so far they are the stand out for me at the moment.
have not yet seen fulham or city so i wont comment.

but with toros being their first year, just like with any club they need to get some experience first.
it has showed with para hills like you said adel.pie they are doing well than expected and they can only get better from here on in.

see how it turns out at the end of the season i guess, might be closer than some people think.

Good summation yet I reckon mine under another topic was better. only kidding!

One positive from the PL this year has been seeing campbelltown a coupel of times. They probably need a couple fo experienced campaigners however the skill and enthusiasm from their squad is pretty good. They defintiley need a GK coz the girl I've seen in there does not want to be in goals and is pretty awful. I think the scoreline against campbelltown could be trimmed by about 5 goals ie thsoe that are let in because the gk doesn't give a F!

Apart from that they're ok.

toros. Saw them the other week. Pretty raw still and are getting pumped by the opposition. Is there light at the end of the tunnel for them? Will new experienced recruits assist. not sure.

Sturt. Not convinced of them. A lot of running and quick stuff but they seem to rely on falling over in the penalty box or near to it and try and get a cheap goal or 2. As far as trying to manufacture a goal from general field play is rare.

Metro. Age weary players will find the second half of the year harder. They are an excellent team that gives a great

I quite agree with you there........although they have a fairly mature side......I think that they're lack of fitness will hurt them in the later half of the season....only time will tell.....

I'm not sure that many clubs would actually do beep tests.. they may but i know i havent.
You can generally see tho when they are struggling n if fitness is an issue without the beep test..

Sasi you need at least 10 but should be 11 and above..

Each team is different in its fitness levels but generally in the Premier league they should be in region of level 8-9 (That just a ruff estimate) . But I dunno teams don’t generally do the beep test anymore.

Why are you worried about some results there Deigo?

There are other tests which are alot better then a beep test, but they all have there place for different reasons that a coach will want to see from his or her players.

Looks like the prediction of Metro's woes are coming to fruition.

I think they will drop down a spot or two.

Cumby? What's the deal with 9 players down over the weekend? I think Cumby too have relied upon one game style and when it comes to a full 90 minutes they are going to get caught out.

The game plan is obvious. Hit the opposition with pace ealry. Score and then "clsoe the shop".

Sturt are doing some damage. Love their game and players. Olympic will also have good wins against opposition above them. Good team spirit.

Fulham and Adelaide City are stalwarts and make going to games exciting. Never give up.

Well as 'stand in' coach for cumby prems for the last 2 weeks, I can assure that there was no reliance on such tactics / style of play during my brief tenure.
(ps. To the cumby girls - last couple of weeks have been great, I appreciate all the effort you put in. :) )

As for what my or any other coach's tactics actually are, etc - these are not subject any coach should be discussing about outside of their club. So you wont get any further comment from me there.

yeah, sad gal. we played a completely different formation on the wkend to wat we usually play. and our usual tactics rnt hit em first up then close up. but wateva u wanna believe
n yeah weve had a few injuries this yr.

ur right bout sturt tho, very nice team, that may win it this yr. city i havnt played against or watched this yr. fulham are as gd as ever if not better. theyll have it tough to stop sturt coming thru tho.

para hills r improving very well. toros jst need another season under their belts b4 they start to catch up, jst like para hills did/do.

thanx pvfc for filling in btw :)
