Hot weather and no games

Post by herewego »

Due to the hot weather (as most of you would surely know) a lot of games have inevitibly been called off, leaving quite a few clubs with no trial matches whatsoever leading to the upcoming season. Just wondering how many games some of the amatuer clubs have played so far and if they have organised games at night or got an unofficial ref etc so they could still play.

athelstone have had three games. against para hills lions, plympton and west beach
all at home, all usual times, and all with refs from the league. two more to go . night game next week against farm and then day game against payneham/ postel.
guess we have struck lucky with the weather

We've only managed one proper trial match. It is definitely going to take a toll on teams' match fitness going into the season.

we have no div 2 players. when our club split up last season , three players left and went to gully. one is still with gully, one came back for a couple of weeks and has moved on to inter, the other has a severe back injury and cannot play for anyone and is now coaching.
so your information is totally wrong. getting worried already ?

how's your team looking this season? who did you play in your trial game?
maybe we'll both be lucky and the game will go ahead

i heard the new coach brought along a few players over from his old div2 team thats all... a mate heard this from one of your players so i guess the source is pretty good.

not worried. if you have good players thats fair enough. we had good players last year and we were the best by far... didnt belong in div 5. we've lost a couple of our best so it wont be the same (ie. you wont be seeing 13:2 or 10:0 scorelines any more) but we have enough depth to hopefully still be competitive.

all im trying to say is, if you have a good team, say so. dont play down the quality of your team/players just because you are in div 4.

firstly i am the coach. i didn't coach a div 2 side last year, so i brought no players with me from my last club.
i didn't play down the quality of my players, it was a joking response to the payneham / postel goalkeepers comment ( also a joke ) that we will need more than luck when we play them in two weeks.
two seasons ago , like you, we had built a team that ran away with div 5. last year, before the season started , the club split apart, and we all went seperate ways.
i have gone back and am trying to build another great team. can i do it,? who knows ? it will be fun trying.
all i ask is two good games with you. played in a good spirit.
( and six points would be nice )

Our squad is by far the strongest we've had since our merge, and alot of the guys have realised what we can achieve if the effort is put in and they've stepped up.
We played Gawler a fortnight ago, and that was like 36 degrees, i'm only a goalie and I DO understand that it's hard to play in the heat, but isn't it an even playing field? every player has to play in the heat so i don't see what the problem is, BUT (before people get upset) i know there are health risks involved.
on that note spare a thought for us keepers who have to stand there freezing our bollacks off not running when it's hailing
